I think there is far too much correlation between results and driver skill comparisons in here.  You can really only compare drivers within the same team for a given race / season since the performance levels of the car are just wildly different.  Merc has had a terrible car for all of the ground effects "era" so it's probably a reach to say that Hamilton is washed up.  I think it is safe to say that Russell is better at driving trash cars than Hamilton is, whatever that is worth I don't know.  He certainly extracted the most of anyone recently out of what Williams had to offer and rolled right into Merc which turned out to be more of the same, albeit at a higher level.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how Hamilton compares to LeClerc next season and also how Russel fares against Lewis' replacement, whomever that may be.  Ideally though it would be nice to see two top teams produce cars that are similar performance so we can have a real competition.  As of right now, Red Bull's car is so dominant the only real questions are A) will Max have a reliability issue and give someone else a chance or B) will Max lap cars that are in the points.

This has always been the problem in racing not just F1. Top teams are usually top teams and its hard to compare drivers from other teams because they are in totally different equipment that may not have the natural speed as others.

I honestly think Hamilton is still a talent but I do not believe he is on the level of Max right now. Even think LeClerc and Sainz are mabove his level at this moment. Norris is of course a good talent but I think he beats himself alot.

The younger talent sitting back watching such as Lawson & Ollie are forsure solid performers and deserve a drive. To me you measure a driver off what he perform with so I think Russell takes that spot over Hamilton in the team. Ferrari are very even right now just track dependent. But would love to see some other drivers in a better car or just to even the field out a tad bit for some solid racing thruout

agree with you both though. Always tough to judge drivers based on their teams car. 
 

is Sargent just getting used to the car? Or is albon a unit for dragging that Williams up the order.

I’m still undecided, race is at 11pm for me. Watched qualifying this morning when I got up and I am leaning towards that route for the race as well. It does keep me away from my phone & social media when I watch it after the fact but I do miss out on voting for “Driver of the Day”.

I have solid hope that Ferrari is in the mix this week. Maybe even Lando gets into the fight.

I mean, I did that it is the early season but it is very yard back in the day and even the 90s and early 2000s and even the 2010s each team would pretty much have a third car in the garage just in case it is, it is just very odd that there is no chassis to repair Alex‘s car and then they had to take Logan‘s car away and give it to Alex and just head scratching for sure 

Joanne said that Logan‘s been punished at no fault of his own. He didn’t crash the car he didn’t damage and grant you he’s probably not gonna end up in a very high position on the race but to take away the chance of driving to give Alex the car it’s just it’s it’s a low. It’s a low point.

Personally Logan is in borrowed time. He hasn't done anything and others have shown me promise or skill. Albon had it performed fun every step of the way and is their best chance at points. So harsh yes. Justifiable, for sure.

I feel bad for Logan, but there are a lot of other young drivers out there who deserve a seat too.

@GolfSpy_APH agree with the boys. Feel bad for Sargent.  He seems to be taking it in stride though. Big ups to him. There is a part of me that hopes albon just says “something doesn’t feel right with the car” and it turns out the car has had an issue all along and Logan actually isn’t that bad

Sargeant got the raw end if the deal this weekend but that is a unfortunate possibility when there isn’t a backup chassis available. Props to him for taking the whole thing in stride and being a team player.

It was an interesting race, Ferrari seem to have the pace already to keep up with Max, it would have been very fun to see it go the full race.

It seems like Max was having break issues since FP1.

Let's see how this shape up in Suzuka in a couple of weeks.

I'll admit, in terms of Alonso's penalty, my initial reaction was confusion.

Reading the Steward's decision though... I'm surprised 20s was all he got. You can't slow down early, speed back up, and then slow down again for the corner.

Just saw a really interesting video showing the on oars from Alonso. He reported engine miss firing. During his last lap it was doing it too. Curious if they will review it

VERY interesting weekend forsure!

Enjoyed the race alot. Was a bit surprised that the pace of the RB/Perez did not show thru but can hardly say im surprised there. 

The Alonso penalty for me was a harsh shock and without all the data in our hands its hard to relate so I try to stay open eyed for it all. 

Overall a good race. Wish DannyRic would have done better at his home race but what can ya do...

Didn’t catch the race but watched the extended highlights on YouTube … disappointed to have missed it live. Happy to see the 1-2 finish and happy for Sainz. 

Could he possibly join RB next year?

I saw that puff of black smoke.
Just a complete failure of the brakes.

I mean he was complaining from the brakes not biting on earlier FPs.

You can see at some replays, where the wheel cover falls off, it seems that all it was is that the brake was stuck since the starting line, which in a way is impressive to see how much he was able to drive.
As well as how fast that car was still at the beginning stages, I mean the Sainz pass on lap 2 was great, but it could be a completely different story without the RB brake issue.

I just watched a video related to the incident, and it does cover a fair bit of the data, and the justification with the penalty.

Of course there will be tons on people who will agree on disagree with the penalty, and both sides will make compelling arguments, at the end of the day Aston Martin has accepted the penalty, just losing two points with this incident.

I know that Peter Windsor did say something about it and did not agree with the penalty, his justification is that it always happened and it never been an issue, he mentioned Senna in 87 with that break testing against Mansell, but that was 34 years ago, there is a lot things that drivers got away in back then that are way too dangerous.

This was a scary crash for George.

As a guy who has sim raced these cars on literally the same track in that situation I know what Alonso was trying to do. At the same time I’ve been in George’s spot and I would do the same thing. That being slow down or off throttle early for a better exit into the drs zone. Obviously it caught George out when Alonso slowed down a lot earlier.
