I don’t think it’s needed. It’s really just trying to find the best orientation of the shaft. I’m my opinion I don’t believe the tolerances would be that low for you to notice. Quality control should be good enough to weed out the total lemons. The problem with puring would be you can really only have your club in one setting because you believe that’s the best position for the shaft to bend neutrally. I think it’s a waste for the cost but to each his own

There several threads on the topic and the industry has different takes. Some pros do it some don’t.

IMO the purpose of puring a set of shafts on irons is to have them perform consistently through the set so you don't have a club that is 'off' in its distance compared to the other due to the shaft throwing off your yardage gapping.  Whether it is effective or not can be debated.

To pure a shaft on a driver doesn't make a lot of sense to me because you aren't trying to gap its yardage to match up between other clubs.

I've had a shaft "purred" once. I hit it well, but I'm not sure I noticed much difference between that shaft and the same shaft in a non-purred setting. 

There are plenty of good videos covering the topic available on YouTube that allow you to actually see how the process works and TXG did a blind test to see if they could discern much of a difference - both in feel, and in the numbers.
