Liv Golf Central Thread: Events and News

Message added by GolfSpy_APH,

We haven't had to say this in a while, but as a reminder to all that we are keeping this thread to the golf/signings and related content.

We are not going to get into the politics of it all and where the money is coming from etc.

If you wish to comment on that aspect of it all please feel free to do so on other platforms. Not here.

While much of LIV has become more accepted over the years there are still those who feel strongly against it and the backing. We respect all those who are both for and against LIV, however will not tolerate going into the weeds of all the "other stuff"

If you are not sure whether you should post something either ask a mod or don't post it.

As we have before we will continue to moderate, remove or edit posts that go against our moral code and members will receive alerts or warnings to follow.

Thank you

... I lived in Bolingbrook for 38 years and liv has really shown its colors staging one of their LOUD shotgun 3 day only parties at Bolingbrook Golf Club. I have played it maybe 20 times and it will be a nightmare for spectators ... oh wait a minute, spectators? 🤣

... A decent semi private course but faaaaaaar from a Pro level course. Quite a few narrow bridges around the course that will make following one of the shotgun mutineer teams difficult at best. Other than the relatively pedestrian island par 3 with a large green that even many high index players can find, there is not a single memorable hole on the course.

Felt kinda of the same way about this announcement. Nice sentiment to use a course that the average Joe could play but this doesn't strike me as a great venue for major golf event and the party scene that LIV wants to incorporate. I guess we will have to wait and see how it plays out.

... LOL! That green is huge, plays downhill from an elevated tee and really hard to miss with even a marginal tee shot. The rough around the green stops the ball from rolling into the water unlike the 17th at Sawgrass. Max of 173 yds from the tips for the pro's.

I thought this was a belated April Fools joke.  But a little stunned you would hold the LIV Finals at this venue.  Nothing against the venue, it’s just weird choice.

Should be amusing watching Bryson trying to hit a ball on the green from the tee box on all par 4s and par 5s. 🤣

It’s 7100 from the tips, same distance as most pga tour events.

Regardless of the exact attendance numbers, it was LIV's biggest success to date.  The finish could not have been better for the Aussie fans.  Personally I think it's great for the growth of the sport across the globe.  Maybe next year we'll have a Scheffler led team (Longhorns GC?? 😊) there to take on The Rippers GC.

Just read an article online attributed to SI that Jimmy Dunne has resigned from the PGATour Directors Board citing that he was left out of the PIF negotiations and felt his position on the board was now superfluous. Sounds like the inmates are now in control of the asylum.

it sounds to me like the players who stay with the pga want to control that tour, be watched on tv, play the best courses from week to week, and be recognized in public for what they do instead of what they did in the past.

it sounds like jimmy dunne was pushing for a deal to ensure immediate monetary gains, which he as an executive is paid to do, regardless of anything else.

the players who are invested in the pga seem to have decided that it’s in their longterm interest not to join liv. if I had to guess the bottom line reason for whoever stays stays, i’d guess they like the fame and would rather take the slow money and public recognition rather than take the fast money to exit public consciousness. taking the liv deal is like being paid to go away. you might go up a tax bracket, but no one will ever hear of you again. further, it’s possible they actually enjoy competing, and don’t want to spend their professional life on an exhibition tour. they may value spending the majority of their professional lives in the US. they may value having an influence on tour level decisions, rather than be a courtier to a king.

i can understand the appeal of both sides. i personally would rather have a say in my future rather than a well paid puppet, and play in tournaments that I watched growing up, but to each their own.

I think anytime a LIV player does well in any non-LIV it is a bonus for LIV. I'm a Bland fan and just like seeing him do well wherever he plays.

It’s the champions tour, not that significant of a story.

Unless it’s a Hale Irwin/Bernard Langher type thing it’s not that newsworthy.

LIV golf is an exhibition tour, this does nothing to give credit the tour

Not sure if it's good or neutral for LIV but great for Bland. He isn't a needle mover on either tour really but really happy to see him do well regardless of where he plays.

I had a friend just message me that he is seeing rumors of Rory crossing over to LIV for $850mil.  Has anyone else heard/seen this?

edit:  the Rory rumor was from April, he was just pulling my leg.  I guess I’ve lost touch with the internet as of late

They’re a paid puppet on either place they play , the PGA tour will be in deep trouble money wise with the inmates running a business they know nothing about running . The very worst thing to happen is getting TW  in charge as he has had people running business for him . There are major sponsors that are holding back on extending due to instability of the tour models

the top 25 on the pga tour have to play against the top golfers every time they step on the course. Most of the guys on LIV haven’t seen top 25 on the pga tour when they were playin there.

US open qualifying yesterday’s was 36 holes. You don’t have to worry about a whole week.

The hottest player on LIV only had one year inside the top 25 while on tour. Hes good but far from one of the best

With the unofficial announcement that the PGATour and PIF are close to a financial agreement, I wonder if a certain GC analyst is going to condemn the Tour for taking "blood money" from PIF like the players did.

What do you or anyone else consider “growing the game”? Is it more people actually playing the sport or more people watching pros play on TV?

IMO, there is a big disconnect from people who watch a given sport and who actually play a given sport. The fight between LIV and PGA doesn’t affect anyone from actually playing golf.  Most golfers that I know don’t ever even watch golf on TV in any aspect.
Grow the game at home.

I think big growth is number PLAYING golf outside the US, and 2nd, is more players here in low income kids.  Tiger started a growth bump, but that has leveled out since he is now unable to play much. .  New faces like the guys with SE Asia names is good for growing players here in USA.  I would like the US events to add a few international spots.  Augusta Nat. could add 2 or 3 automatic spots to best Lat Am or Africa/Asia players, whether pro or amateur.  I also would like Augusta to always add, if none make the cut,  the top amateur to play the weekend.  USGA could do likewise with a 1 site 1 day qualifier rotating among Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.  Adding quality players from anywhere make events better, for TV and for aspiring kids.

IMG_3717.jpegIs Rory the new bad boy of golf?  Will he now join LIV?

I dont think Rory is necessary the bad guy of golf in the way we dress pro-wrestlers as good guys and bad guys.

I'm not advocating for this point of view, but I've heard many comments of how Rory thinks he's a bigger celebrity than he really is ( which is still significant I think). I have also heard much about how he can be a bit of a primadonna. I am sure this loss stings as he was pretty close to winning and did phenomenally.

I think there is some vindication for Liv fans as Rory was the face of the PGA and verbally tarred and feathered those who went to Liv.

Great win for Bryson and a good show in the final round. he's really shaping to be a class act.
