Heavy grips

Recommended Posts

I just got a set of MCC +4 midsize grips and the average weight is around 72+ grams. Is this enough to really throw off the swing weight of clubs and what is the best way to compensate for it? I've tried using JumboMax UltraLite grips, but I'm not having much success with them. Thought I'd try these and got a good price on eBay. Any help would be appreciated.

Not an expert but based on what I read on other forums is the swingweight is done without the grip and the grip just tricks the scale in general

MCC+4 are only slightly heavier than a more conventional grip like Tour Velvet. You can see the detail below - while in ounces, it's still inconsequential. The 2.37 ounces for the MCC +4 and the 1.90 ounces for a Tour Velvet translates to only a  difference of .42 ounces or 11.90 grams. Not sure about the weight of your ultra light jumbo sized grips,  but in the scheme of golf things - I would think that the weight difference and it's impact on swing weight is at best minimal.

After some further research, it turns out that most of the grips (Golf Pride, anyway) that you can find on eBay at such great prices are counterfeit. Won't be doing that anymore. What's that old saying? If it seems too good to be true...

changing the weight of the grip by 5 grams is equivalent to 1 SW point so the 11.90 grams would change the SW by a little over 2 points.   depending on how sensitive you are, it could be significant.

Interesting point - especially since I can tell the difference in shaft weight between my 49 g shaft and one I was previously using at 60 g. What we don't know is the OP jumbo grip weight.
