Best value golf ball?

"Value" means different things to different people. I am specifically looking for an inexpensive ball that will suit a high-handicapper with a medium (95 mph) swing speed who loses a lot of balls. I have come to the realization that, for a high-handicapper, there is little reason to pay a premium for a tour-quality ball - even a DTC one - when you are likely to lose 2-3 per round, and are unlikely to reap the performance benefits. I'd rather something cheap but consistent. I have been playing Maxfli Tour balls, but even these I feel are too expensive at the rate I'm losing them (and new model not yet available in yellow). For good reason, it seems that most of the analysis going into tour-level balls

So, here are my requirements:

• Must be available in yellow or a similar high-visibility color.
• Must be available for < $25/dozen (or seemingly always on sale for that price).
• Must not be too soft (60+ if not 70+ compression - or talk me out of this requirement).
• Must not be too spinny off the tee (again, talking about high handicappers trying to keep it in play).

Last year, I gamed Srixon Soft Feel a lot and kept finding myself coming back to it. Looks like they're still reasonably priced, and are finally available to ship in yellow (but not available locally). I also ordered 5 dozen Snell Get Sum in yellow for $80 (+$10 shipping) which seems to be a steal, but I imagine this is a closeout price and once they're gone, they're gone. I saw the thread here about the Maxfli TriFli which is intriguing at 2 for $40 (although 45 compression seems too low). Would love to try Vice Tour at $20/dozen, but not available in anything other than white.

Most of what's out there on this topic on the greater Internet appears to be stuff that was written by robots with the primary purpose of getting you to click on an affiliate link. So what's the Maxli Tour of non-urethane balls?

Try the Maxfli Softfli and Maxfli Straightfli. Both can be found at Dick’s in double dozens for a very affordable price.

What would you say is the difference between the two, and how do they compare to the TriFli (which is $2.50/dozen more when you buy 2)? Or, aside from marketing jargon, are they basically the same?

Softfli is softer, rest is described on the boxes.

Hammer Control. Comes in yellow and feels/performs well above its price point. Often on sale at Dicks for even less than the SoftFli (which is another great choice BTW). Right now you can get 2 15 packs for $30. 
 

Alternatively you can find great deals on AAAAA used balls online. Anywhere from $12 on up based on brand and level of ball.

Thank you everyone. Looks like we have some candidates:

• Maxfli StraightFli 
• Maxfli TriFli
• Top Flite Hammer Control
• Srixon Soft Feel (my favorite last year, need to test new 2033 version) 
• Snell Get Sum (5 dozen arriving tomorrow - hope I don't love them only to find they've been discontinued) 

Perhaps I will do an unofficial review. I think I now have enough balls to last me quite a while having taken advantage of the many sales currently!

FWIW, Srixon balls are currently buy-two-get-one-free. So I ordered 2+1 boxes of Soft Feel and 2+1 boxes of Q Star (which, without discount, is over the $25/dozen threshold).

I feel like the Hammer Control is probably half a step below the others, and the Q Star probably half a step above the others. So overall, this gives a pretty balanced lineup to test. I guess for the next few months, any time that I'm waiting for the group in front of me to clear out, I'm testing balls!

I think you will like the Soft Feel. With that said, the new Costco ball might be the best valued ball when Srixon is not on sale.

Costco ball is a no brainer if it suits you (i.e., you don't need help keeping it straight off the tee). And if your eyes are good enough to track a white balls (again, being able to hit it straight is helpful here). 

So far I've played the MaxFli Trifli and the Snell Get Sum. Unfortunately I brought 6 Get Sums this morning and lost them all before the end of the (9-hole) round, after not losing a single ball yesterday. Ugh. I am keeping notes and will post my cumulative reviews at the end.

I think the Kirkland ball, maxfli ball, vice, and cut golf balls are all great options. May not suite your swing but amazing bang for your buck.

Like said before you can't go wrong with a Srixon Q Star or a Vice ball. I like both pretty much equally. I have also liked Callaway Supersoft and Titleist Velocity as well.

Bridgestone e6 soft and Volvik Vimax. Both are available in the colors you want. Volvik has more color options. Both are in the 50 to 60  compression range. Both are around $25 per dozen. Both are reliable and durable. I am similar to you in swing speed and handicap at age 66. Used the e6 for 3 or 4 years and am transitioning to the Volvik over the past year as the green ball is easier to spy. I keep a few ProVs and TP5s handy for distance on days when my driver is really working, but they don't go that much further.

So I have been on the Maxfli Tour which is $120 for four dozen.  Very happy with it.  I like the Tour better than the Tour X.  I have seen the SoftFli and noticed it is cheaper.  Can anyone compare the SoftFli to the Maxfli Tour?  Thank you.

I know it's awful, but I've always loved a Pinnacle Soft (says on the box, but Feel on the ball). Cheap, and my last hole in one was with it, so it holds a place in my heart. The other choices listed above are probably better choices.

Softfli is a 2 piece low compression golf ball and the Tour is a 3/4 piece ball.   The tour is designed for performance and the Softfli is designed to be cheap and good for someone that loses a lot of balls.   There really isn’t a comparison.

I discovered the Maxfli Tour a few years ago and loved them at 30 USD a dozen price point.  Dick's new price increase pissed me off and I will not use them again as it is clearly a money grab and we need less of that these days not more.  I've gone to Kirkland and love the value and the performance.  The idea of spending more than $30 for a dozen golf balls is insane, especially when they only cost pennies on the dollar to make.  I purchased four dozen of the newest Kirklands but have not try them yet.  Sill have a couple dozen left from last year's Kirklands.  I will post a review after I tried out the new ones.

I am in the same boat as you, a high handicapper with a similar swing speed, and I play a yellow ball.  I would recommend the Srixon soft feel and the Wilson Duo. You could also go with the Wilson 50 Elite for an even cheaper option.  I used them, the 50 Elite,  before switching to Srixon and thought they were great for the price. 

 

Both the Wilson options do not fit into your compression requirement, but if you are like me, I am not sure that matters much compared to the other parts of my game.  In other words, I doubt ball compression makes much of a difference in my game.

Take a look at the Mizuno RB Tour. They usually have deals around $25 per dozen at golf balls.com (usually $42 per dozen) Plays well on windy conditions and flys just as well as Pro V1 at a deep discount

I'm a big fan of the Maxfli Tour X and in the 4dz box they run about $30 a dozen.  Used to be even less, but greedflation has taken a toll.  Still a good value.

In my opinion if I were losing 2 - 3 balls/ round I’d get with an instructor who could get me swinging more consistently & keep the ball in front of me. COSTCO sells their balls in a 2 dozen pack for about $25

Try the OnCore Avant 55. Often go on sale 3 for price of 2 works out to about $12-13 per dozen and very good constant balls.

If you want to buy from a etailer or retailer and get a darned good golf ball go to OnCore and buy their Elixr balls. You can probably get their buy 2/ get 1 free deal. If this doesn't work for you look for my deals on ebay.

Are the Kirkland's available yet in yellow?  I didn't think they were out yet.
