Same boat as @JohnSmalls & @jdparker, I couldn't tell you the last time I watched the "Country" music awards and don't plan on it today lol. I also don't have cable TV service, just some streaming stuff, so don't get it anyways

... Normally it gets a little drier and dustier in winter and a little wetter and less dusty in the summer. But Phoenix hard record rain last winter when we weren't supposed to have any, and no rain this summer when we were supposed to have some. All I know is the sun is out almost every day and I can play golf about 315 days a year skipping the over 113* summer days and the sub 60 winter days. Kinda looks like this year round.

... Us Bears fans are in a unique situation and we do want them to win. Because the Bears have the Panthers first pick in the draft this April and they have 1 win along with the Cardinals. Now if Kyler Murray comes back and beats the Bears Christmas Eve, that wouldn't be such a bad thing.  Personally I want the Bears to have the 2nd pick as I assume Caleb Williams will go 1st and that would leave Drake Maye for the Bears and they would have their first Franchise QB. 

... That said, Fields is due to return next game and the chances of them winning precipitously dip with this pretender at QB. Holding the ball for over 4 seconds or more on average and the inability to either pre read the defense or progress to a 2nd or 3rd options which are all essential for a NFL QB are just not in Fields repertoire. He is basically a more athletic Tim Tebow.

@chisag a really good article on ESPN was published this week on the potential QBs for the 2024 NFL draft. It is an ESPN+ article, so I am not sure if you have access to that or not, but I'll quote the sections on Williams and Maye. Would love to hear how you feel about the analysis. To no one's surprise, they are ranked 1 & 2, with Sheduer Sanders ranked 3rd and a projected 1st round range, which somewhat surprised me.

Regarding Caleb Williams:

"Where he excels: Williams has had some ups and downs over the first 10 weeks of the season but has still showcased No. 1 pick-caliber traits. His arm strength, accuracy and improvisational skills have him sitting atop the quarterback rankings, and scouts see him as one of the best prospects at the position of the past decade. What makes the USC product so special? He always has an answer, no matter the defensive structure presented to him.

This season, Williams has thrown for 2,958 yards, 28 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. With the instinct to create off-script, he regularly generates explosive plays outside the normal framework of the offense. On plays outside the pocket, Williams has thrown for 11 touchdown passes and has an 85.0 QBR. But teams have also forced him to play more within structure this season, and he has responded by completing 73.1% of his throws from inside the pocket (up from 70.3% last season).

"He's special, and whoever gets him will have a franchise-altering type of talent," an NFC scout said.

Where he needs work: We're nitpicking, but his reliance on big plays and his ability to play outside of structure can be a gift -- and a curse. His success with those passes outside of structure often leads to him welcoming avoidable pressure, as he passes up options available early in progressions in favor of the bigger play. There are plenty of times on tape when Williams could have gotten the ball out quicker, but because he knows he can put on his Superman cape, he instead holds onto it longer than necessary. That might not always translate to the next level."

 

Regarding Drake Maye:

"Where he excels: North Carolina lost many of its offensive skill position standouts, leaving a lot on Maye's shoulders this season. Even so, he has shown consistency in attacking downfield with his A-level arm strength. He has adjusted to the new personnel, and getting receiver Devontez Walker into the lineup after initially being ruled ineligible for the entire season has helped him. Maye has the poise, instincts and accuracy to get the ball to his desired spots, and his ball placement on throws to the intermediate and deep levels of the field stands out.

"Considering what he lost [around him], he has looked really good this year when they let him sling it," an NFC team's director of scouting texted me in September.

Maye has 2,803 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and another six scores on the ground, and he has completed at least 68% of his passes in seven of nine games.

Where he needs work: The lapses in judgment on some throws is concerning, and the UNC offense occasionally gets stagnant for long periods of time during games. Consistency with his accuracy into man coverage is one specific thing to watch. Maye is only completing 42.2% of his passes against those looks -- the national average is 51.5% -- which matches what we see on tape. His ball placement on quick throws to the short and intermediate areas of the field can be sporadic.

... I am in agreement for most of that. Williams scares me on both ends. His ceiling is almost without limit IF he can tailor his game to the NFL. He reminds me of Mahomes in that aspect admitting he took chances in college he knew he would not be able to attempt in the NFL. One thing I like to see in a college QB is taking snaps under center because play action is an essential part of any NFL offense and can he make the difficult NFL throws. Deep outs with velocity, accurate seam throws with touch or a rocket when needed and hitting check downs/screens perfectly in stride (more difficult than most fans think). Maye has both, a very strong arm and a soft touch and just silly accurate. At 6'4 and 230 he is the prototypical NFL QB when it comes to size with the foot speed to run when needed. 

... Both these guys have rare poise and calm in the pocket that should translate very well to the NFL.

You are spot-on that Williams has a bit too much of the college version of Patrick Mahomes in him.  As long as he can temper that, and trailer his playing style to the style that a stud NFL QB needs to do, he could be a top-tier NFL quarterback.

I don’t know as much about Maye, having not seen him except in the highlight reels. Sounds like he may have a bit of the Josh Allen style in him.

A leader, agile in the pocket and fast when he needs to run, has touch and velocity and a perfect height and weight. And having seen most every game he has played, he is more accurate than Allen.  I have never seen so many receivers have balls hit them in perfect stride like Maye does over and over again. I think he has the ability to join elite QB's in the NFL like a Herbert, Burrow, Brady but his own version.

...  That's my Guy! Not taking anything away fro the GT offense because they played really well but the UNC defense was non existent that game. Maye was 17-25 for 310 yds with 2 TD's and no picks while running for 58 yds on 10 carries and another TD.

... I tried looking back but couldn't find it. One of you Saloon regulars commented that I would enjoy having Bradley Beal join Durant and Booker and I wasn't so sure. Well you were right, I love how Beal plays and really appreciate a pure shooter that has all the other tools as well and just sooooo smooth. I could do without Durant that still seems like a one on one option far too often. I think Beal and Booker are plenty of fire power. But the "team" still seems like a group of individuals compared to Booker, Bridges, Johnson and Paul conveniently leaving out Ayton that played so well together as a unit both on offense and defense. Hopefully they start to jell and some kind of offense I can recognize will emerge other than the one on one with 10 seconds left on the shot clock.

Fields is back so Bears should lose the rest of the games thus year and get the 2nd pick ion the draft. If that holds up I would trade away the first pick for a silly amount of future draft picks and then take Maye with the 2nd pick.

Excuse party? When have I made excuses? lol I feel like I’ve always been pretty fair in my stance as a realistic fan Packers just aren’t a very good football team this year

Fixed your description a little bit Jason @Jnoble89

Initially with the talent they had coming out of camp, and realistic expectations I had them pegged as a 9 and 8 team.

Love has struggled, and the defense hasn't played as well as they are capable of, thus at 3 and 6 they now stand.

Still have 8 games left, so they may be able to make some corrections before the end of the year.
