He has not declared himself eligible for the draft.   He is a junior so he could return to college ball.   Deadline is Monday.

... Haha I wish it were true. I have said from the beginning I prefer Drake. Williams may turn into a one of a kind talent especially out of the pocket but the Bears need a really solid franchise QB in the pocket and I think Maye is exactly that. That said we all know nobody knows til they start playing in the NFL but I feel pretty confident predicting that Maye will at least be a top ten QB by his 2nd or 3rd year. 

... I would also love to see Fields go to home to Atlanta and reach the potential some see in him.

... Three years would be better but I do think two is enough. And oh my YES he has NFL talent both physical and mental and that's the problem with evaluations of college QB's. I think it is kinda like watching someone race a Formula One car at half speed against weak drivers and then predicting how they will run at full speed against the best drivers in the world. Ya really don't know til they get there and do it. Some are better than predicted but more are worse. The decision makes and breaks GM's. 

... That said, Maye has everything you want in an NFL QB. I think this is a really good feature on Maye:

So.... it seems one Maxx Crosby has given an ultimatum.... hire AP or I will request a trade. To that I would say 'see ya Maxx'. No one player is bigger than the team. Players play, they don't dictate who the boss hires or not.

I love Mad Maxx, but he crossed the line on this.

... True, but my guess is he is speaking for the whole team. To be fair I think as a Raiders fan you would rather have Crosby selecting the next HC more than Mark Davis.

I'm hoping it will be AP, but Maxx is out  of line. There is nothing wrong with being vocal and stating your opinion... and you are correct, the whole team wants AP, but as a player (employee) you don't give ultimatums to the man that pays you.

Honestly, I’m indifferent but intrigued. BB is the goat, but he’s also reallllly old, so this is def a win now move. This basically guarantees we go after a vet - I’m guessing we throw a bunch of money at Cousins and then draft best defensive player at 8.

... Yup Bill and Fields would be a match made in hell, although he may have trouble with Cousins cry babying.  I do think he doesn't understand todays young players or probably more accurate he just doesn't care. It takes a special talent to harness the attitudes and get the best out of todays young NFL players.

Cousins wife is from Atlanta area.  They could use Cousins. House next door to my dau and her family in Milton is for sale and would be perfect for them.

... @rkj427 Congrats on the win! I think of all the teams in the NFC North the Lions are supported by every other team more than Bears, Packers and Vikings. Seems everyone is pulling for the Lions.

... LOL, ummm no. They have their pick of Williams or Maye and I imagine much gnashing of teeth will occur over the next 3 months. Once they have their interviews and get a feel for their personalities and leadership qualities, hopefully one of them stands out.

If the Bears keep the #1 pick, I suspect they’ll be picking Caleb Williams, regardless of whether you or I think that is the best choice for them at QB. I am not sure that Williams is best for the Bears, but he is certainly the clear consensus first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

... I have seen several in mock drafts choose Maye as the Bears pick and a couple more say the Bears will take Williams but personally they would take Maye. I am guessing the interviews will be huge. The new OC will also be a big piece of the puzzle and have some say in who they pick. If I were the front office, I would make my decision first an then choose an OC that can work best with that choice. Like I have said from the beginning I hope they take Maye but Williams is far from a concession prize and I will be happy with either of them.

I think the Bears should also sign a veteran QB as a backup for injuries, mentoring, etc.  Not sure who that is, but Flacco comes to mind…

... I am absolutely giddy with Bagent as the back up and I would have continued to play him over Fields. DII and undrafted, a rookie that won the back up job over PJ Walker and Nathan Peterson, comes in and wins 2 out of 4 games and showed me enough that I would be confident in him starting if the #1 QB is injured. Now mentoring is a different story and I can see where a proven vet would be quite valuable. I remember Flacco saying mentoring wasn't his job so probably not him.
