Great intros!  I have never been a huge Odyssey guy as I haven't found one that really fit my game but always interested in new technology.  Following along with the two new test rounds.

In my case, I've never gamed an Odyssey but they seem prolific on tour and around here.  Other than having rolled one similar to this model, at a local golf shop this past summer, I have no bias one way or another.  To me, the AI face technology seems somewhat more marketing spin than real performance based and, much like what we found in the Evnroll tests, may be difficult to feret out without the use of a putting robot.

Like I did with the Evnroll, I plan to see what if any help the titanium insert offers on off-center, toe and heel strikes.  I still have the now faded Sharpie off-center lines on the top of my ER5v... left them because I kind of got used to them. 😆

Was looking to see how the club reacts with mid-hits since the Odyssey is supposed to help be more consistent.  Was purposely using the lines as marks the same distance off-center.

OMG, the engineers at Odyssey just gasped... the weight and position of the tape effectively offset their gains 😮.   Just kidding, but I have to think we're operating in the 4 to 5 places right of the decimal when talking MOI changes on these latest putters.

I agree and I’m probably compensating for the off-center hits anyways, I don’t quite have the same consistency of hitting the exact same spot on the face as Tiger…just thought it would be an interesting data point.

I’d imagine the true intent of the gains would still be fairly close to the center, not the 0.75” I have it off to the side.

No, you definitely should test this as the whole premise of the AI face, whether titanium or urethane, is "to improve ball speed consistency across the face".  That will be part of my testing as well.  Just using the Sharpie marks on my ER5v, I was able to get pretty good representation of heel and toe strikes.  The challenge not using a robot is using a consistent force.

I'm guessing that they studied tons of golfer putting strikes and tendencies to populate where "off-center" mishit's are made.  Then they used a putting robot and started the algorithms to refine the magic recipe for the face cross-section.  It makes perfect sense to me but scalar-wise we're talking small numbers.  But improvement of any kind that helps us make more putts is always a good thing 👍.

I’m undecided on the weights right now, with the indoor putting I’ve done so far I am happy with the weight/feel with the standard weights.

Day 2 of life in the AI-One Milled world:  Total rain out today here in Eastern NC, so I regressed to the carpet roll routine, more to begin developing the feel for the AI-Milled Seven T DB (think I'll name it Millie for the test).  Being a White Hot face putter person, I am seeing the ball does not leap as quick off the face with the milled.  Versa was there as well as I did some side by side rolls on the carpet (maybe a 6 on the stimp), working from 2' distance intervals starting at abou 4' going up to 12'.  Interesting notes made - will hold them till later....

Having gotten out early this morning to finish up Christmas and my wife's b-day shopping (yea!!), I headed over to our Granite Falls North practice area to test the putter.  As I mentioned in my main review post, I want to get used to rolling the Odyssey before starting my strokes gained test plan.

Apparently lots of folks like to watch football as the green was wide open.  I putted 5 balls around the four holes for over an hour.  These were ~15 to 25 feet apart, each having some contour.

image.png.df40cadeb12342417d0a61ad85a1a6ef.png

I'm really liking the feel and "click" off the face.  It's much different than my non-insert ER5v. I'm guessing what I'm feeling is the slight flexing of the insert? Gaging distance did not present a problem and I'm stroking both putters pretty much the same.

I also tried a few "controlled" strikes in attempt to assess distance and dispersion when purposely striking toe and heel positions on the Ai milled face insert... you know, where the magic happens 👍.

image.png.1ddd6a877174f7db76cd0aa2c7e5cbc9.png

I really couldn't get a sense of how this was or was not working as that part of the practice green is too contoured.  I'll need to re-do this test over at one of the other practice greens that have a really flat area.

Anyway, a productive time and I'm thinking the ER5v might be in trouble 😊.

Extremely busy this weekend with SWMBO out of town so my practice time was a tad limited. I was able to get a few short sessions in today on my practice mat. One of my sons stepped in after I had to step away and when I came back his first words were, "Dad, even my mishits were going the same distance as the ones I hit in the center. My Scotty never does that." I told him that was the premise behind the design of this putter and he told me he wanted to change up his Christmas list. 🤣 Score one for the Ai technology!

I have to say, in sunlight, this color is a definite winner. I am not a “color” putter guy either, but the profile against the green just “pops” perfectly to allow for really easy alignment. Callaway nailed it with this.

First Day on the Course with "Millie"....Today was the first trek around the course on "real grass" for Millie and her cousin Versa.  Started with some warm-ups on the practice green.  Definitely a diffrence in feel with milled versus white hot faces.  Speed control was interesting as was distance control.  Have to say the solid click off the face of the milled exudes confidence.

Milled7wballsinplay.jpg.c18a014747d96c170ff09e91c308e1a2.jpg

The round consisted of 6 holes with Pro-V1s, 6 with the Maxfli Tour, 6 with Snell MTB/Taylormade TP5 as I wanted to see if the "brand" of ball made a difference on the green.  It was also a day of Indi Wedges (ongoing from the test this summer (

and the Edel SMS 7i (60 day trial):

Make sure to check those links out on what's happening there as well, which means......my bag for the day looked like this:

 Bagfortheday.jpg.6ef73b945e3d1f78ca2bf1dedf267dc7.jpg

Round impressions:   The distinctive sound and feel of the milled face I really grooved in on.  I found myself less confident with the white-hot of the Versa.

  • Testing platform for the day  - once on the green (was short on a number of approaches so the Indi Wedges were in full play), I would mark the ball and roll Millie first as it was the object of the test.  To cross check, I would roll with Versa.  How they finished was key in my notes....SO what was the outcome - here's some thoughts: impressive, confident, suprised,  encouraged
  • Testing platfom two - what about just off the green
.  Again Millie first, Versa second.  Both were comparable....
  • On course feel / looks - As both putters are extremely similar in build - down to the same style grip, I find it easy to stand behind one and then the other.  They work equally well in my swing - but is one better suited than the other.....hmmm that remains to be seen.  More course work required Milled7yellowball.jpg.02394ef3af22054df74e086fd68f6f86.jpg
  • Number of putts - who won the day?  That will have to be part of the final recap when we get to that point.  I will say this, I shot one of the lowest rounds I've played - directly attributed to only 29 putts taken where I average 32....just saying...

Will Millie send Versa packing....to be continued....

First Day on the Course with "Millie"....Today was the first trek around the course on "real grass" for Millie and her cousin Versa.  Started with some warm-ups on the practice green.  Definitely a diffrence in feel with milled versus white hot faces.  Speed control was interesting as was distance control.  Have to say the solid click off the face of the milled excuded confidence.

Round impressions:   The distinctive sound and feel of the milled face I really grooved in on.  I found myself less confident with the white-hot of the Versa.

  • Testing platform for the day  - once on the green (was short on a number of approaches so the Indi Wedges were in full play), I would mark the ball and roll Millie first as it was the object of the test.  To cross check, I would roll with Versa.  How they finished was key in my notes....SO what was the outcome - here's some thoughts: impressive, confident, suprised,  encouraged
