TG8
I was asked the other day how many hole in ones' I have had.. got me reminiscing back to my only 2.. and they happened in the same summer on the same hole! Was using my Precept EV Irons with a Bridgestone e6 ball and the other ball I believe was a srixon (ignore the srixon cert date as they messed it up if I recall). It has been a long 18 year span and have got close several times since then. One hole in one on a simulator last year but I don't really count that. So when was your last hole in one? Cool story??.. please share! DaveP043
My first ace happened when I was playing with my soon-to-be father-in-law at his home club. This was Memorial Day weekend, with my wedding scheduled for September, just a few months away. Then it was something like 33 years before my second. In the meantime, my wife took up the game of golf, and made 3 aces of her own! I said pretty frequently (in her presence) that I hadn't made a hole in one since I got married. But I've caught her now. My most recent ace, about 4 years back, came in an interclub match, playing at the opposition's home course. The league rules are that all players, whether playing home or away, split the cost for "refreshments" at their home club. So when it came time to buy drinks, I just smiled and said "Thanks guys!" I actually did buy a few drinks, but it was a good bluff for a bit. Javs
I have had five aces overall. My last hole in one was four years ago on my birthday. I was playing with the club pro, so it was the perfect witness. Last week I lipped out for one while playing the Odin X1. Last year had many close shots, but no cigar. fredsharky
My one and only happened this past year (7/16/2023) - It was super satisfying once I figured out the ball was in the cup. I hit a great shot to a back right pin that a bunker was covering, so when the ball hit you could not see it - We all thought the ball was hit well and figured to be close but once we got up there no ball on the green. I got a little peeved as I figured it went over and we looked for a couple minutes and one my playing partners just went to the cup and it was in there. So went from, hey that is going to be a nice shot to getting really peeved that it was not on the green to Holy Crap I hit a hole in one. What is crazy the very next day on the very same hole with pin in the front location playing 12 yds shorter I landed one about half a ball from the hole.. That would have been really cool. I am good with finally getting one, if another one comes my great and if not great. My third HIO was in 2015... I think I'm due again!! My wife started playing golf in 1963 at the age of 8. tdroma98
My last HOI was March 5, 2021! I remember hitting a 9 iron with wind into us. After I hit it, I was begging to clear the front bunker. Girldad18
My last hole in one, I have three, was October 1, 2022. I had travelled to South Carolina for my dad's 70th birthday. We went to play one day while I was there. My mom was with us, so it was me, my dad and my mom. It was the signature hole, an island green, 140 yards, hit my 9 iron. I had that same distance at a few of the other par threes on the front nine, so I knew this would be pretty good. As it left, I said something to my mom about it being the right distance and it covered the flag. We heard sound like it hit the pin and saw something white fly away, so I thought it hit the flag and went in the water, but there was no splash. My mom got all excited and asked if it went in. None of us could tell. Got up to the green and walked up to the hole to see it at the bottom of the cup. It was great. The fun thing about it was, they watched me play so much growing up, from when I started at 7 years old, through college, and even some events I played as an adult, and they never saw a hole in one. Made it super special. And with the thousands of rounds I have played in my home state of South Carolina, that was the first time I had made a hole in one in that state and in my hometown as well for that matter. I looked at my dad as we walked off the green and said, "Happy Birthday!" Pretty cool moment! Weirder still, that set is my old set from college that I keep at my parents house. It houses all three clubs that have made ACES for me - 5 iron, 58 degree Cleveland wedge, and now the 9 iron. LinksgolfFever
This past year (4/22/23) was my 2nd hole in one. Almost 20 years between the two. Hitting a hole in one is always awesome, doing it in competition against someone who plays like an A#@ made it even better!!! This was my second round of the NCGA matchplay tournament, first match I played my opponent was friendly/courteous, this guy was all of the opposite crass and no golf etiquette. We were all square getting to #3, 142 yards to the pin front right hole location. Smooth pitching wedge landed 2 feet short of the cup, 1 hop and in the hole.... My opponents only comment was a question, "....Do you make a lot of those?". While I would have rather made it with one of my regular partners and had all of the celebrations that should come with an ace, it was quite fulfilling to put that one on the score card. I closed the match out on 14. tony@CIC
My first HIO was August 30th 2022, on a Par 3 roughly 100 yds (can't remember the exact distance), hitting from an elevated tee box onto a peninsula green (water on 3 sides). I wasn't paying attention - trying to keep my head down, when the other 3 guys started yelling that it was going for the hole. I saw it as it hit the green and rolled in. My most recent (2nd) was a couple of weeks ago which I posted on the "How Did You Play" thread. It was a shamble - but only 3 in my group of which my wife was one. Here's the detail I posted. Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) Our normal 18 hole couples group was a bit sparce yesterday - mainly because of the holiday season. We ended up with 3 - 3somes playing a shamble which was just fine with me - my wife plus one of the guys I normally golf with. My wife was driving the ball really long but my other partner and I were missing putts left and right. My driver and other long club were working well, but I've been struggling with my mid irons - mostly due to trying to implement swing changes ever since my lesson in early December. That is until I got to #11 - a relatively short par 3 playing about 135 yds. I finally struck my choked down 7i well off the tee. It looked like it hit the front of the green and just kept rolling into the back greenside bunker. My wife and other partner both hit drives to the right missing the green - time to find the ball with the least painful drive. We found both of theirs - but where the heck is my ball? Bunker? Nope not there - heck I even grabbed the rake since we have deep bunkers and balls sometimes get buried. Resigning myself to my first and only lost ball that round - I decided just for giggles to check the hole and guess what! There it was nestled in the hole - darn I didn't even see it go in! The group in back was wondering how come it was taking us so long to play this hole? Sorry, guys - it's time for a photo op. Oh and there was no need to bring my LW and putter to the green. It was coincidental that it was our turn to bring snacks and drinks for the group after the round. HIO #2 is now in the record books. Oh and for @Kenny B benefit, who is wondering why the pullover and long pants- yes it was a chilly day here in FL. Partly sunny and a chilly 65* brrrrrrrrrrrr. Now a disclaimer: For those that have never had one, I'm of the belief that it's pure luck.
