revkev
A strong Northeast wind is never ideal at my club. We had 7 guys who are from a 5 (me currently at my club) to a 10 and Dennis (the tall guy in the 4 pluses) who is an 18. I was low man at an 84, but that 21 year old scotch in round and the post round MaCallan's on the back porch made up for it. They don't even ask anymore, it's waiting on my table when I sit down. I did have back to back birdies on 15,16 and shot 39 on the back. Only 2 of us broke 50 on the front. It was brutal. Our foursome won 20 bucks a man plus the skins for my birdies. Undershooter
Been a LONG time since I got to post in thread. Ive only played once in 2 months and not at all since a month ago. Got out yesterday and hit some balls then decided to play 9. Missed a 3-4 footer for par on 2 after a great bunker shot. Eagled 3 with a 3w-6i to about 5 feet. Followed that up with a 3 jack bogey on 4. Made another bogey on 6 then closed out the day with back to back birdies for a -1 35. Not too bad for as rusty as I was. revkev
What a bizzare round! Played TPC Tampa Bay. I shot 38 on the front hitting some very good shots. The front nine took a tad over 2 hours which was a reasonable pace. We had a 45 minute wait between 9 and 10 due to groups stopping to eat I guess. I hit a half roped drive on 10 but smoked 5 wood in from 195 and saved par. Made easy para on 11 and 12 and then the waiting started. There were 3 groups on the tee at times. I'm not used to that at all!!! It was so ugly, my back stiffened and it was as if I forgot how to swing. When the dust settled I shot 44 on a back 9 that took 3 hours. I love the course but seem to remember that this often happens on the back. dru_
It's only taken a year, but after this weekends rounds I finally feel like I'm rediscovering how to swing a damned club. The last year has been awful (bad enough that I considered putting the clubs away, and dropping my club membership). IT was every phase of the game. I'm fine when I'm struggling with a given phase, but when it's all going the wrong way at the same time? I don't handle that well. While neither round this weekend was a particularly good score, both rounds were consistent. The misses were predictable, but more to the point, for the first time in over a year, I felt like I had something I could build on again. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy They weren't at the tee box. The way this TPC is designed has you driving past the restaurant from 9 to 10. Its a significant walk from your cart to the restaurant and back. Thats a time waster right there even if you follow the directions to call your order in on the 9th tee. It's such an easy fix too. Put a call box between the 8th green and the 9th tee and then have a runner deliver the food on the cart path outside the restaurant. You Put up a sign saying, leave the course, loose your turn. That move alone would shave 15 to 20 minutes off the round. jaxbeachpackerfan
So, update on my post-lesson progress (or lack thereof). Next round after my 'found-the-secret-of golf' 79 was the type of round I had expected after a big change lesson. 79 on Tuesday, 98 on Friday. No clue what I was doing. Followed by a couldn't putt 93 with a teeny bit better ball striking, then a ghastly 97 where every shot was a duck hook or a manufactured punch. Then today, all of a sudden, had the secret again! A 41/44 85 with a couple of brain fart drives and totally average putting (i.e., should have been much better). But in general, the ball-striking was spot on. Did hit one drive that was totally beyond my general capabilities. A center of the club, pure slight draw, measured on the GPS at 274, a good 30 yds farther than my previous best drive on that hole (I know the drain where the previous one ended up). Generally, my max, absolute best drives are around 250ish. Wish I knew what magic I found on that one. All-in-all, given the absolutely perfect weather, a very good day. cksurfdude, fozcycle, Kenny B and 1 other 4 Quote Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts. In my Ogio Ozone XX Cart Stand Bag:Ping G400 10.5 Deg Driver, stock Stiff shaftTM Rocketballz 19 Deg 5 Wood, stock Matrix Osik Stiff shaftTM Rocketballz Stage 2 21 Deg Tour 4 Hybrid, Rocketfuel 80h Stiff shaft Callaway Apex CF 16 Irons, 4-P, Stiff Shafts Scor 48 and 55 degree wedges. revkev
Rev, you are so correct on the need to speed up the turn at TPC Tampa. That is the only hitch in their giddyup Jax, great comment, I have those days too. In July I birdied 5 holes on back nine for a 43/33:76, then have struggled since. Guess it was just lightning in a bottle. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy The other thing that they need to do is say, "If you don't show me your tour card, you aren't playing anything behind the green tees." The blues may only be 6600 yards long but the back nine had hazzards all over the place. Those greens aren't meant to receive long shots into them. So guys arrive from up North. Their 260 yard drive that actually goes 240 there goes 225 here and suddenly they are hitting 5 iron and more in, over water, on every hole on the back. It always takes forever to play that back which is too bad. It's a great golf course. Liberty Ball Markers
After losing the 3 day weekend to ice and/or rain, and yesterday being too cold to play, it got close to 50 and we got a round in before dark today. Obviously super sloppy... Shot 43/42. This time of year we learn to play short because the ground is hard. The ball normally bounces and rolls like crazy. Today, it was so sloppy that I had some drives plop and stop... just couldn't get distances dialed in all day. It should be around 50 for a week or so, and I plan to play every day that I can before it gets cold again!
