Spalding TPM Putter obsession ?

Howdy all,

I never understood the putter "collection" thing........until recently. I saw some of the putters that RookieBlue7 was refinishing and thought it would be fun.....and that's where my problem started.

Ever since I came across some of these smaller. Putter companies, (thanks MGS and fellow forum member) I am starting to feel the itch. I really like the simple designs, and to that end I I found myself looking at TP Mills putters (among many many other companies) and also found I like some of the older stuff. The putters from TP Mills are beautiful, but waaaaaaay to expensive for me to play around with refinishing, so I went on eBay and discovered that Mills designed some for Spalding back in the 70s and 80s ( nothing like playing equipment that's the same age as you) as well as Mizuno.

Long story short, I've now bought and refinished 2 Spalding TPM 12 putters, one was a redo from my contest in hosted in In September/October, and another I got the idea when I saw Bellum Winmore's Whiskey finish, and decided to do a St Paddy's day color scheme. Anyway, thought I'd share.

Massey, those tpm's are beautiful! I really like the green one with whiskey finish....I and I own a BW. The only thing for me is that I prefer a much heavier putter head than the older models.

I like heavier weights too, and the head weight in the TPM 12 is pretty good, they come in at ~320, but the super light pencil shafts ( I think) help with it feeling heavier.

BW's whiskey finish is something to behold, even the online pics are awesome, hence the inspiration. As to not risk any trade in in their work, I'd call mine the Darby, named after:

I want BW's el gordo mini ltd, but gotta get fit first to make sure it's for me, hopefully they don't sell out

Looks great and those putters are an incredible value. The pencil shafts are also considered very valuable and I have three putters with pencil shafts and love them.

Good job on the old TP Mills. I have a few myself. Like Foz I do not putt with them because they are too light but I do have one old #9 that I have had for years and I will go to it from time to time

On those "pencil shafts" they are .223 and hard to find. For some reason I have several older Cash In Spalding putters that have that shaft in them and even though those cash in putters are a dime a dozen I will buy one for a couple of dollars at a yard sale or thrift for the shafts. Speaking of those shafts if you add weight to any of the TP Spaldings to get the feel (at least for me)the weight tends to make those shafts deflect
