I'm talking with a guy about his Taylormade RSI TP irons. My i20s fly pretty high even with my s300 shafts.

He has dynamic gold sl but in xflex. I'm wondering what I can expect if I went to this setup. I know there's a lot of online debate about how important shaft flex is or isn't. Not sure what to do

I'm striking the ball really well and love the forgiveness in my i20's but would like the same forgiveness and a tad more distance. My 5 iron goes about 190. Would like 195-200. My money club so far this year is my 60 degree wedge. I can hit almost any target I choose with that club. Anything inside 95 yards. I keep looking and have come close to pulling the trigger on a few different sets but always chicken out. Would like something with a 46 degree pw too. I just like that number for a pw. What should I look at or do I stay the course?

Stay the course of you are hitting it well and like the clubs. Changing for a 5 yard gain is not really that significant of a distance gain. I would personally prefer an iron that flies the same time and time again that try and pick up 5 yards.

Anyone try or owned the Adams xtd forged irons? They look fantastic and distance wise, I wonder how close they would be to the i20s.

 

My mind is pretty much set that the i20s will be for sale in the near future. I'm looking at several options from Adams and Nike to Mizuno, tmag and Cally.

 

I like the s300 shafts but would consider trying the kbs shafts or another brand if it makes sense.

There are just too many options out there.

What's your budget? Do you want a similar size to the i20's? More GI? More CB?

 

If you want to lower flight, PX might be an alternative as well.

 

But I agree with Jmike. I wouldn't switch my irons for a 5 yard gain. I think I would try to gain 10 yards of the tee and leave me a comfortable approach.

 

If you are looking for forgiveness, distance and looks, I really love my Apex CF16

Distance wise, I'd like similar to a bit more. I can't play something with too much offset. I like to shape shots when I need to. I play from a 5 iron up so although the i20s are nice, I think I want to go back to forged. I miss the feel of the Wilson Staff v2s I had. I like a medium trajectory that I can control. The v2s I had a bit of trouble controlling them. I want thin blade like scoring irons. Asking a lot but I don't like switching irons for the fun of it. Any brand will do.

Are you looked at the adams XTD Tour Irons. Very forgiving and a great shape.

 

Pretty solid price as well

I had two sets of them, one with the C taper and a second set with X100s.  The set with the C tapers made it half a range session since they were just not for me and the set with the X100s were the same to me as the MB2s that I had been playing for a bit.  Overall not a bad iron with pretty good feel for having the elastomer in them.  Not the most forgiving iron that I have ever played, but not the least forgiving either.

I've played the v2s and they are the best feeling irons I've ever hit. I sold them because I needed more forgiveness and help in the long irons

Only time I hit them was 4 years ago when I was being fit. They were very forgiving, but a little too clicky for my liking. That's why I chose the MP59 over them, a more meaty, muted feel, but lost a lot of forgiveness. I always wondered how much my game would have improved if I had gone with the easier MP53

Oh well, too late now

Well I have pulled the trigger and after a tonne of research and reading and just learning a bit more about what I want I have purchased Adams XTD forged irons and Scor 4161 wedges in 46, 50, 55 and 60 degrees of loft. The irons have the c tapers from KBS and the wedges have the genius 12 by KBS. should be interesting to say the least since Adams are not known for their irons but they seem like they are going to be a good fit for me. Any thoughts? Anyone own or try them?

Adams has actually made some great irons in there times. Maybe not so much since Taylormade bought them. But they have had some real winners

Yes they did. Played the MB2s for years and still have an awesome set that a member on here refinished for me.

I got a set from a member here, really like the feel and size/shape of them. Probably drop the swing weight from my set later from D4 to D2. The set has dynamic gold s400 though.

I read that the c tapers have a lower ball flight than the dg s300s. I had a c taper shaft in my sw and liked the ball flight. I didn't find it was really that low. The s300 shafts were good but I would generally straight pull to the left. I read that it was because they might be too heavy at 130g so I went with 120g c taper.
