  1. I love this You give a group of guys a set of clubs, tell them to enjoy, and what happens....everyone walks a different road experiencing different joys along that path but we all end up meeting at a common spot or in this case... a common theme. myself ... I was not impressed with the clubs with the exception of the 6i. the wedge I did not like due to the fact that I could get 20 yard spread in distances and hence the lack of trust. need to combine with my set? Then you have STUDque that just raves about the GW and the ability to perform a variety of shots, GC70 doesn't want to play them Kanoito struggled with toe hits so he's still in the figuring it out. Mr. Theo enjoyed the 4i distance and trajectory but also needs more on course testing for an further evaluation. So if i am not mistaken the common theme is that so far no one is enamoured with the i500's saying "Wow, I'm playing these from now on" but still more testing is needed in order to complete the journey.

  5. Nice recap, Har. One thing that might have helped me was if I got these in July, so I could really get better comparisons. The PW is just no good for me. Maybe it needs the loft and lie checked out. I feel bad for Ping and all the GolfSpys, that I really couldn’t test them out the way I wanted. I did play them enough to know that they won’t be in the starting lineup in 2019. I will definitely test them again against my gamers. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  8. In an effort to provide a little more flair to the forum, we're going to start a catalog for profile badges. These will not replace the Donor badge and you don't need to be a Donor to be eligible to add these to your profile. This listing will be updated as new badges are introduced. If you'd like one added to your profile just comment here or send a PM to one or two of the following mods: @GolfSpy_APH. Being a game of honesty, please only request that which you honestly deserve.. Users are allotted a Donor Tag + 2 items from the catalog Countries: Groups: Professions: Milestones: Earn-able (exempt from limits): If you have an idea for something new, just add a comment on this thread (doesn't hurt if you do some of the design work yourself). PSA- For those requesting a 2019 tester badge: These are added once you complete and post your Stage 2 reviews.

  9. I was thinking the same thing Har, I just love the honesty of the reviews and I love that it shows just how different all of us are. One thing I think people should take from all of this is reading reviews is an excellent source of information about clubs but (and it's a Kardashian size but) you have to get out and try clubs before buying or dismissing them

  11. Hi Jason, I think you are spot on about looking into your driver. We have commonly found that once someone gains a good amount of speed as you have their current driver no longer is suitable for them. Spin often increases too much. The amount of speed you have gained with each SuperSpeed clubs has been outstanding and if it isn't transferring over that is the first place to look. Do you know how much your current driver weighs in total? Down the line you may also want to look at doing a ball fitting as that can change too. The good thing is that it is the off season so it is a good time for you to focus on speed and then as the spring hits you will be better suited to take this new speed to the course. One other test you could try is to measure some max out driver swings using the radar but not hitting a ball. Let us know how those numbers look. Kyle

  13. definitely. Aside from the plans that MGS have, I was impressed with the fact that they give 20 tags and you can compare clubs from different manufacturers. as I am testing the Ping i500's, I want to get data so i can get a good comparison with my MP 25's.

    How'd you play?

Was 3 over with 3 to play when darkness called it. Did hit a couple of bombs (for me). Career long on 1 and the drives on 13 and 14 were both out there - had 180 into the green on 14 which is 471 on the card - pin and tees were up though. Probably 250, I was right next to a guy who is normally 250-270 on that one. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  17. Week 8 is officially over for me. My numbers have been pretty consistent the last few weeks, I guess that has to do with this being a plateau phase. That, and adding the kneeling swings into the mix. Daisy from SuperSpeed said this was to be expected. My kneeling swings have gotten better, my highs this week were 88, 89, and 80 on my dominant side and 80, 81, and 76 non dominant. I'm actually just a hair faster with the medium club than my light. I played a round earlier today and took the swing radar with me to get some numbers on course. I'm disappointed that I'm not seeing the numbers on the course that I'm getting at the range. I had a high today of 94 and a low of 87. I recorded eight drives and only averaged 90 mph. I don't know if this is the mental part of the game in that I'm trying to control where my drives are going and limiting myself on speed. I did hit a 3 wood 208 off the deck according to Arccos, a new record! Maybe I need to ditch the driver. I am noticing that my driver is ballooning, I hit em high and not far. I probably need to get a new one as I think mine might spin too much. Daisy recommended getting fitted for a new one, but after getting new irons a couple of months ago that's a little over budget. I did use TrueFit that My Golf Spy has put out and got recommended for a Srixon z765 that I might look into as you can find them used at a reasonable rate. I know it's not a fitting, but $300 plus is quite a bit to have to shell out this close to Christmas. I'm going to hit the range again on Sunday to see if there's been any change there. I do feel like I can swing more freely when there's not trees to hit into. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

Happy to report that it is MUCH better condition than it has been in recent years now that the county has resumed managing the course. The only thing they don't have but should have very soon is their liquor license.

    Got Problems?

I was told at my last eye visit in April, I would have to start using progressive lenses by next year. I can no longer wear contact lenses due to my own negligence and irresponsibility. I wore them too much, often for days at a time and developed a condition in my eyes that doesn’t allow me to wear contacts anymore. Wearing glasses on the golf course took a bit to get used to. Mainly around the green and addressing the ball. Everything had a rounded look to it. Like I was looking down at a golf ball teed up on a basketball sitting on an exercise ball. Once I got used to it, it has been fantastic. Especially with transitions lenses. I don’t know why I ever chose to wear contacts! Take a look at Zenni Optical for recreation or sport glasses. My family has been using them for over a decade.

Just like signatures, I guess one important note is that we want flair without clutter. We should be picky which badges get created and I think ones like those might create too many. Not a good look if the badges start overpowering the comments members make like some other forums I've seen.

It was really an idea that I conjured up and just went with that worked marvelously. I scored the skin before placing the bacon on. Not only did all of the delicious bacon fat render into the turkey breast but bacon then became an actual side dish. There were 0 complaints.

    Question #1

Do you mean "What would you do after the heart attack you had after your employer gave you a surprise three day paid vacation"? Depends on the weather, if it's nice I would definitely go play a round. I would probably spend the rest of the time relaxing at home with the wife and fur babies. 46. Ok guys, went to the driving range today to see if I could see an improvement over my week six results. After the first protocol I saw an increase of 1.6 percent in my initial swing speed, which was lower than my fellow testers. Today I took 17 shots with my driver, recording each good one. I say that because I had a couple of outliers where I hit the ground before the ball, so I made sure not to include them in my statistics. I did have one of these hit 109 mph, but most of them were in the 84-86 range. My final statistics were an average of 92 mph, with a high of 110 (good, solid contact) and a low of 84. Most of my drives were in the 91-92 mph range. Now I'm sitting at an increase of 3.37 percent in overall swing speed. I'm still looking for the magical five percent increase, but at least I'm going in the right direction. Now if I could just remember how I hit that one.... It's back to the driving range next weekend to get more numbers. Maybe week eight will be the lucky number. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  47. Week seven has been a crazy one for me. It's been unseasonably cold and wet here in southeast Tennessee, I've been working lots of overtime, and my wife has been sick. My schedule for training has been altered because I've had to make runs into town on my way home to get food, so my training was on Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday. I'll be doing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week. It was a good week, I've noticed that my speeds were a little slower earlier in the week due to having to bundle up, and guys, I'm not very flexible to begin with. My kneeling swings are basically feeling like I'm just flailing water in order to stay afloat. My speeds were faster today as it was sixty degrees outside and that's perfect weather for a tee shirt and freedom. I got an all time high with my lightest (yellow) club of 114 mph with the step change drill and tied a high of 108 with my medium (green). I'm planning on hitting the range again to see if I can reach the five percent gain that eluded me after the initial six week period. I ended up buying a pass to the driving range for forty dollars and I'll get fifteen buckets at that price. That's a steal of a deal and I knew that with this test and still adjusting to my new irons, I couldn't pass it up. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  48. I bought a set of i500s about a month ago, and prior to buying I had a chance to watch all the YouTube videos, etc. and tested and got fit but with just a 7 iron. I was hesitant because of some of the negative commentary about gapping between clubs and was really concerned about the gap between the PW and my Mizuno T7 gap wedge because from the videos, the biggest complaint seemed to be the gap between the PW and then the next lowest wedge in the set. I loved the look of the i500s and what I was seeing with the 7 iron so much that I went ahead with the purchase despite my concerns. Happily, I have not seen any of the gapping issues mentioned by others, so it does not seem to be a universal problem. My best advice is to make sure you get fit for these. Even though my fitting was just with a 7 iron, we really took our time at the fitting and one thing that stands out in my mind is that I tried four different lie angles to make sure the lie was right. I think this was really important because two of the lie angles were too upright and on each of those heads, the ball tended to go left and tended to go 5 yards farther. The other two lie angles were very close but the three degree flat brown dot was just a hair too flat. I ended up with the orange dot which is two flat, which is not too surprising but the stock lie angles in the Pings are different than the stock lie angles in my old set. It really made a big difference though. The orange dot is much more accurate, much straighter and not as long as the 1 flat or std lie for me. With the right fit, I am just not seeing the gapping issues. My gap wedge goes about 115 - 120 and my PW is at 125-135, 9 iron is 140-145, 8 is about 155-160, 7 is 165-170, 6 is 175-185, so the biggest gap is between my PW and gap wedge, but it's manageable. If anything, there is a problem where sometimes my 6 iron does not seem to go much farther than my 7 iron and i only hit it 170ish, but I think that is a quality of strike issue more so than a club issue. I am much better with my shorter irons (probably most people are), and I tend to dig with my irons and take a big divot. Occasionally, I am prone to semi fat shots with longer irons because of this. I don't know how to describe it, they are not fat fat but they have a different feeling and I am sure I am just a fraction behind the ball. In my old set, my 5 and 6 went almost the same distance and I am sure that is an issue with not consistently getting the ball cleanly with those irons and hitting just a smidge fat. For that reason, I didn't get a 5 iron in the i500 set and I am currently experimenting with a GAPR mid5, cut one inch shorter than standard. It goes about 190-195 on average but I can get it out there to 200 at times. It has a wide sole which helps me not dig too much and provides better consistency so far.

  49. Ping i500 – Official MGS Forum Review by Mr_Theoo Intro I mainly did my testing at the range and LM because the weather changed for the worse when I received by my irons. I did get out for 1 really solid 9 holes after getting used to them which was very helpful in determining my thoughts and review of these irons. Looks Right out of the box I loved the looks of these irons. The very minimal and clean looks won me over. I've been enjoying the direction Ping has been going with their irons and wedges as of late. The more traditional look and hiding the technology. The blade lengths are a bit longer. To me, this isn't a good or bad thing just something I noticed when I compared them to my MCs (10 out of 10 points) Sound & Feel The sound and feel of these are unique, when hitting them you can barely tell they're hollow but when you're riding or walking you can tell from the bag chatter. Indoors they do make a much louder sound at impact than outdoors. When hitting them you can tell if you mishit it but unless its a shank or thin it's hard to know exactly where on the face you missed. (7 out of 10 points) Range Performance On the range, these left me puzzled and worried. When I’d go hit balls after work I kept having problems hitting good shots. I blamed it on work at first, but after a few sessions, I realized I hadn't gotten used to the change in shafts from my MCs. During my lessons, I had no problems hitting these well so that took a lot of the worry that I may have chosen the wrong specs. But because we use foresight during them I could see how little I was spinning the ball. That did bring some worry because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hold greens, especially with the mid irons. Being able to hit all my shots when striking it well was fairly easy with the i500s even though they are quite forgiving. I was able to hit my punchout cut and keep it low for when I'm in trouble. But I was also able to hit it high especially the 4 & 5 irons. I also had a launch monitor session with my 7-pw. (I'll be updating this with the 4-6 as well) The numbers I got were great distance wise but somethings had me worried and a bit confused. My spin and descent angle were both lower than I was accustomed to seeing so I got worried I wouldn't be able to keep the ball on a green. (13 out of 20 points) On-Course Performance I was only able to get out on the course once before the weather got cold here so my I had to get creative for my course testing. I played but also went to TopGolf and the simulator to put myself in situations that required me to hit targets and shots instead of just smashing balls into the range. On the sim I had no problems hitting quality golf shots, even when I was 200+ out I felt confident in hitting a 5i into a green which is something I’ve never been able to do. Usually, when I'm that far out I club down and lay up. At TopGolf I challenged myself to hit targets that were further than my usual distances with my MCs as well as ones that weren't just straight in front of me so I could test being able to work the ball and control the flight. During my time there I found myself really hitting the 9i well to about the 150yd target. And finally on to the course where I got to hit on real grass. The two main things that worried me the most from my launch monitor testing was the gapping of my “scoring clubs”, which for me is 7-pw, and how low my descent angle was with these clubs. I was worried that I might just bounce balls off the greens because they were coming in too flat. It was a pretty cool day about 55 degrees out and very little wind which was nice. The greens were punched and pretty soft so I might see different results come spring time. I played 9 with them and hit about 3 balls per hole trying different shots and such. I made sure to hit plenty of 4i off the tee as I tend to use long irons, specifically my 3i on shorter par 4s to get into good position but it has yet to arrive so I went to the 4i. The extra distance I get out of these was very nice but it was even better to see that I could still stop balls without too much roll out. For me, it's no good to be able to hit 180 yard 7i into a green if it doesn't set me up for a shot at birdie or par. I hope I see the same results in warmer conditions. Overall I would say the i500 is almost a Jekyll and Hyde type of iron for me. Off the mats, I struggled much more than I ever have but once I got to the grass I found them easy to hit far and accurately as I hoped. (32 out of 40 points) Play it or Trade it? Right now the i500 are a play it for me. I think I need more time getting used to them but the flashes of how good these clubs are have shown me enough that they deserve to stick around for the winter while I continue to work on my game. Maybe I'll change the shafts if I find myself not getting along with them but I don't see them going anywhere just yet. Of course, if something new and shiny comes along or I find a set of 2014 MC heads then who knows what may happen TL;DR The i500 is a nice addition to the players' distance iron. It packs plenty of punch while keeping the look very clean and classic. The feel is ok, but still plenty of room for improvement. I would stress getting fitted for these irons more than others I've tried. Mainly because of the chance at bad gapping issues. If you can hit them off grass I would go that route first because mats seem to hide how these perform thru the turf. I can't wait to see how the industry keeps pushing forward with these kinds of irons because I think we are just scratching the surface of them. Final Score: (82 out of 100 points) *Now I know my total score doesn't add up to what I gave each section, but I gave these 7 extra for potential. Because I wasn't able to play in warmer temps but have seen flashes of how these could possibly be a great set for me I wanted to give them a better score than what my testing has shown so far. *
