  1. It's been asked for and talked about for quite a while. But we are having our first official My Golf Spy outing in 2023. It will be nights and 3 rounds of golf at Talamore Golf Club, Mid South Country Club and the famous Pine Needles Golf Course, JANUARY 13 UPDATE---The orignal 12 spots at Pine Needles are full and no more are available. So,a any signups booked after January 13 will be played at either Mid Pines or Sourthern Pines--Details on the cost of that and times willl come shortly. Details can be found on the website provided below. But here are the highlights: June 9-11 2023 MidSouth Lodges-2 Bedroom Villas Golf Saturday 2 rounds Sunday 1 round Cost is $836 per player all in Details Found Here In addition there will be competitions and prizes provided by MGS…And a chance to meet My GolfSpy Founder and Owner Adam Beach is planning on being there How To Sign Up-Follow These Steps Click the link above the picture where the details are listed Complete that registration-Pay close attention to the payment link in the payment area after you've added the event to your cart, it will give you a web address to Talamore to make a deposit payment directly to them-it's not a hyperlink so you'll have to type it in. If you have trouble with that link I'm including it here as well, so you can come back to it here and pay Pay Deposit Here The Deposit is $225 and is due by March 1st. But remember your spot is not guranteed until the deposit is paid. Right now, space is limited to the first 20 players to sign up. If that fills, we can possibly add more spots. Once You have completed that registration, send me a Private Message with your name, so I can verify the registration and deposit payment. Once those steps are done you are in. The balance of the payment will be due May 1st, 2023. We've already had 13 signups, so don't delay in getting in the first group of 20. I encourage you to look at the website page above, it has all the information about the event, along with links to each course. We will be staying at the Mid South Lodges, which are very modern 2 Bedroom/2 Bath Villas right along the fairways of Mid South Country Club. Each room accommodates 4, so two per room with 2 beds in each room. The villas all have a nice living room and patio. We will have access to the facilities across the street at Talamore as well, which include a Top Tracer Range. Mid South is located just a couple miles down the road from Pinehurst Resort, so there will be chances to go by there for either beverages, a meal or maybe get on The Cradle, which is I think a 900 yard or so short course, that can be played in a very casual and fun environment Feel free to drop any questions in this thread and or have just an overall discussion about it. There will be a couple surprises as well that aren't mentioned, but we don't know what they are, so that's why they are a surprise!

  2. Awesome Rob, this is tremendous. I'm doing my best to make this trip around my work schedule (and may have to be in remote work status around the golf and social time ). Not sure which part I'm most looking forward to... the golf or meeting all you fellow spies !!

  3. The PuttOUT Devil Ball is unlike any other golf ball. On second thought, scratch that. It isn’t a golf ball (or at least not by traditional definition). The Devil Ball has a unique design where one side of the ball has a straight edge. PuttOUT even puts a disclaimer on the packaging: “Devil Ball has been created as a putting training aid and should not be used with any other golf club!” You’ve been warned. The purpose of the Devil Ball is simple: to provide feedback on your putter’s face angle at impact. Follow our testers reviews and updates below! Congratulations to our Testers! @ejgaudette @Micah T @PingMD702 @TylorJudd

So big thank you and good luck to everyone as well. https://www.crowngolf.net/products/just-bomb-it-driver-cover

  8. This! Although "unofficial", the golf was fun of course, but the camaraderie in the cottage is what made the Queenstown trip memorable and worth it.

  10. I'm like a good Timex watch. Takes a licking but keeps on ticking! Besides that, take a look at my wooden floaties.......... In matching color tones of course. I would also like to know who my roommate will be.

  11. Had a nice jump in some of the heavier weights on stack last night. Really focusing on lower body sequencing and pushing up through the ground. Hopefully it sticks, 195 weight didn't see much of a jump though. Only 1 mph. I expect my end of the month check in will be a significant jump. At least that's my hope.

Your approach is to get two different tags. When I change a tag to a different club it will change the color of the club and the associated club metrics. When I changed the club associated with my P tag it was as you indicated gold and not blue like the prior putter. But unlike the other clubs, I can't see the gold stats in the putter performance section.

  13. Yeah. Most likely. I’ll check with the planner and see what the possibility of adding some golf only tee times. But you should ask @EasyPutterand @tommc23 How much staying in the cottage added to the whole experience. Both of them originally were just going to golf and not stay on site.

  14. It slipped to unofficial status when I didn’t make it

  15. One, it kills me that I can't make this, but I have work conflict that I won't be able to get out of. Two, as a point of order, if this is the first official MGS outing, then what was last year in Queenstown Rob? Unofficial? I feel cheated... Have fun spies.

  16. If I am sharing a room, someone better be able to endure some loud snoring (even those in the other bedroom will be subjected to “overflow snoring“). I am told that it gets even worse if I have anything to drink within several hours of going to bed.

  17. Jeff doesn’t get too engaged unless there is a full moon. I will concur with what others are saying; staying at the cottage was a big part of the experience. The golf was fun, but the conversation back at the cottage and putting a face to the names we see on the forum made it an unforgettable experience. if golf only is an option, I wouldn’t pass that up either, we were very welcoming and invited them to come hang out and join us for breakfast/dinner at the cottage.

  18. Nice! There will also be a good-natured prize for our last place finish, but that will be revealed in March...wouldn't want anyone sandbagging to come in last...

  19. Definitely better than the Jelly of the Month club. Sorry, that's where my brain goes right now..I've probably watched National Lampoons 3 times already this season...

  20. Some is intentional technique/swing feel changes. I really liked the Drew Cooper/TXG video posted here a few pages back because some of his speed keys also were good for me technique wise. I think the bigger factor is that I'm really only focused on two things right now - club speed and ball flight. It's forcing my swing/body to self-organize a lot better. I think having speed as my focus has freed up a lot of mental thoughts of getting to X, Y or Z position and just generally leads to a more fluid swing.

  21. Bought a Ping G425 9* Max with the Ping Tour 65 gram stiff shaft. Got it for $150. Fit me for it as well. Thing just wants to stay in play. I would’ve never thought I could keep the spin under 3,000rpm with a max head, but it works. It just wants to find the fairway and stay in play! The only thing I can’t stand is the sound…

  22. Really interesting discussion. I think there's no question that doing strength training and speed training in concert, in other words running a speed training program and strength training program simultaneously, can have a near-term effect of slowing your speed gains. There have been more than a few Stack sessions where I'm still dealing with some soreness or tightness in a particular muscle group. And, I won't deny that my strength training efforts have as much to do with vanity and wanting to look good on the beach as it does with speed gains. But, I would also argue a few points: 1) Strength training has a long term benefit relative to speed training of raising your ceiling for speed. In other words, a strength-trained athlete is raising their potential for speed versus a non-strength-trained athlete. 2) That said, for your gym training to translate to speed training the emphasis has to be on ballistic/explosive movements. Jumps, med ball work, etc., performed as the priority in your gym time. 3) Most of us overlook the necessity of recovering from our workouts. I know as I age, I'm sore/fatigued for longer, and it's become more and more important to do stretching and mobility work, foam roll, massage gun, sufficient nutrition, and SLEEP. If you're not willing to allow the time and invest the time to properly recover, any kind of training is nearly pointless. Recover recover recover. My two cents. I like to think I know enough that this is actually more like three cents.

  25. I had my Stack progress check today. It was my 4th program. Unfortunately, I haven’t made the dramatic progress others have seen yet. However, I recently started adding some dedicated leg training to my workouts (single leg dead lifts, split squats and jumping all 3x5-8) which resulted in some noticeable soreness. I’m hoping the extra work helps to break the plateau. I read Mike Carrol say somewhere that strength work tends to get in the way of speed work, and the gains are only revealed after tapering back off strength. So I guess that’s the plan now. Anyone else do this? Here’s the somewhat sad result:

  28. Did a bag analysis at Modern Golf in Vancouver last week. Didn't make any changes, but enjoyed having the opportunity to go through my full bag with someone and get their perspectives and thoughts on my equipment, my swing, and how it all fits together. The one thing that my fitter recommended is that the next upgrade I make is to a new iron set. Just for fun, at the end of the fitting he threw me into a Mizuno MP 223 7-iron with a Modus 105X shaft, which he figured would be a good fit for me. (definitely a nice ego boost to have a fitter tell you they think you should be in a players cavity iron with an x-stiff shaft!) It was a few degrees flatter than my current 7-iron, with 5 degrees less loft, but it was really nice to hit and I was really impressed with the results. I don't think there's any way I can convince my wife to let me buy a new set of irons next year, but maybe in 2024...

Returning after a small hiatus: welcomed a new niece, left a job for my own sanity, navigated a bunch of family events, repainted and reconfigured one of our unused bedrooms into a second home office, crossed off a bunch of items that had been sitting stale on the honey-do list, and on and on and on. I am looking forward to getting the garage simulator set up for the winter, and hope to FINALLY get my neighborhood ball test/ball fitting going.

  32. Congrats to our testers! I hope you all enjoy sharpening your putting skills this winter! I know that I use my PuttOUT trainer daily and think adding the Devil Ball to the mix could be a great way to keep those putting skills sharp. Looking forward to your thoughts on this!

  33. I'm really hoping I can make this trip happen. Only an hour and change from my house! If so, I'll offer to take any early arrivers to the Sanford Municipal course (also a Ross; on the way from RDU airport to Pinehurst) - if we get enough for this, it's a perfect course for a half-set best-ball game.

  35. I’d be down to hang out in the villas as late as feasible to get to know everyone. The price portion would be the biggest hindrance for me. If I could save by not having to stay in a villa that would be most helpful.

  36. Thanks Brian, most of the work has involved waiting for places to resond. You'd be surprsed how many didn't or did so half heartly. Being in the industry myself, I knwo we are experiencing reord high demand for golf and courses can pick and choose the groups/outings they want, but I never take that for granted and get back to even the smallest inquires right away. But having been to the Pinehurst...both the resort and non resort courses many many times, I know this will be a great trip for everyone that is able to make it. So thrilled to see you registered. Glad the dates worked out for you!

  42. ... In the on course testing I did during a practice round. The Maxfli Tour, ProV1 and Z Star had basically the same performance. The Maxfli tour was consistently a few yards longer but on a few holes the ProV1 and Z Star were longer. Iron shots were interchangeable as were pitches and chips. The no brainer is the Maxfli sold for $105 for 4 dozen which is basically the price of 2 dozen ProV1's and 3 dozen Z Star.

A new update just came through which fixed the connect to device crash. I checked and there were no firmware updates for either device. I still have the text rendering issue from when my phone updated to Android 13.

  45. I was able to compare/contrast 2 different putters using 2 'P' tags - one showed-up in blue; the other, gold - on my stats from 2020. Both clubs were 'active' in My Bag....I was experimenting between face-balance & toe-hang models. Moving the same tag from one club to another does not change the color. Extra tags can be purchased via ShotScope (I bought an extra set to modify the putter tag for a counterweighted putter)

  48. For me a big part of it is recognizing that my miss isn't consistent through the bag, and planning my shots accordingly. With longer clubs my miss is a cut, but with shorter clubs it's a pull (9-iron is about where that switches over for me). So even if the pin is dead center of the green with no trouble anywhere, I'm aiming 5 yards right of the pin on a 130-yard shot, and 5 yards left of the pin on a 165-yard shot. That way the pin remains in the center of my typical dispersion.
