  1. Woke up so great start. Have a 7:45 Tee Time with the FM’s (can’t reveal what that stands for on this site) and this group is more serious than the Bacon Boyz. BUT they do appreciate Fireball after each Birdie.

  2. Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope everyone's day is off to a good start. I'm just chilling in the car drinking coffee and preparing for another day. It looks like the weather is going to be pleasant for one more day before the rain and cooler weather comes in until the weekend.

  3. Crummy morning... well crummy night which led to a worse night and too early of a morning. Thankfully had swimming lessons with Ivan to get my mind off things for a couple hours, but sorting out some bs that just really took me by surprise. Hoping it gets settled later today and can move on from it... depending on which way it slides I may or may not have a follow up post (all non golf related haha) Coffee was supreme though!

  7. Good morning on a crisp Wednesday from WNY, benign kind of winter morning missing 80% of the snow that fell and what remains is ice = clean paws with the low rider patrol. Coffee is good and hot, already over an hour into the workday so here we go! Now @Rickp you can't put FM's out where a Veteran can see it without getting a laugh [Field Manual of course ]

    YOGA

Yoga yoga yoga! I took it up in my early forties (55 now) and wish I would have done it in my 20s. Best thing for my physical body and state of mind. I saw a blurb somewhere on "yoga for golf" and asked my pro "should I try this". https://www.hss.edu/golfportal/improve-your-game-yoga-for-golfers.htm "Yes" came the response. I pointed to the listing of poses and asked which one; "all of them" he said. So I started doing them on my own and but I wasn't sure I was doing them correctly, and I wasn't sure I was "feeling" the right thing (stretch or restriction) in the right place. So, I found a studio and took a private one hour lesson. Changed my life. I was sure Erin, the studio owner, thought I was crazy - she did not - that I wanted to learn some poses to improve my golf game. I was sure she thought I was crazy - she did not - to be some 40 year old looking to start. I asked for some advice and she directed me to a beginner flow class. Just learning the basic asanas (poses) breath work and terminology. I don't think I could touch my toes when I started. Super tight ham strings. Today I can put my hands under my feet in my ashtanga class. There is a class for everyone. My three favorites are ashtanga (its the same routine every time, very mediative and builds strength); a hot flow (sweat and sweat and stretch); and a yin class (all seated on the floor stretching getting into the facia, and very calming). For a first timer, let me assure you - no one cares what you can or cannot do. If anything people are very welcoming first timers and newbies to the studio. They love yoga and want to share with others. But they do not care what you can or cannot do. At all. Don't be self conscious. Guys are in the minority. Often I've been the only guy in a class. (My saturday hot flow has two of us, sometimes three; I'm usually the only one in the evening yin; and often th only guy in my Sunday morning ashtanga but that has changed as of late). The tendency for newbies is to roll out their mats in the farthest back corner of the room in the hope to hide from everyone. Big mistake. If you are new you need to, want to, see what the instructor is doing. Move up. I decided a long time ago I didn't want to be seen as the creepy old guy staring at the back sides of all the young ladies in yoga pants.... so I place my mat in the very front row to the left edge of the room. Thats my spot... I've had gals ask me why I'm always in the same spot and laugh at my answer. But my daughters said "smart move dad". Get a couple yoga blocks - they will help. Help bring the floor up to you, allow you to push into them which eventually lets you get deeper into the pose. If looking for a studio or a class try the MindBody app or the Momence app as well as the internet. Try out a "flow", a beginners or basic or slow flow. Eventually as you get comfortable you may want more - power, heated, etc.. you can start there too, but if you are brand new you might want to learn the basic poses before you have sweat dripping down your nose. I started just wanting the physical work out - help w my mobility and flexibility - over time it has become so much more to me. The hardest part after my hip replacement was waiting for the ok to get back into the yoga studio. Sometimes some instructors can be a little hippy dippy for me but you take what you want from the class and leave the rest - being told you find grounding in mother earth never hurt anyone. This is a good ashtanga flow - I've been doing it for ten years and cannot float like she does, nor can I grab my feet twisting in the seated positions - but its not about what you cannot do "yet" but about what you can do and where you are going. I remember the first time I got my legs into full lotus (a couple years after I started) and burst out in laughter in class - it was awesome. Now there is nothing to it. Namaste

With the mod team hard at work getting as much done as possible I would love to hear some of your thoughts on what you want to see, how you may like to see it presented and have a general discussion around member testing! I am also excited to announce that not this week, but maybe in a few weeks or so we will be bringing in some special guests to discuss their products for member testing!

    How'd you play?

I walked 9 holes again today; 2 days in a row, front nine both times and the most difficult of our two nines. I played with my wife and two from her ladies club... all walking. Played the par 37 in just under 2 hours. Much better score today; 5 bogeys and a birdie on the par 5 #6... so a 41. Putting let me down; could have been better. Same temperature as yesterday and windier to start with, but the wind died down on #6 and I had to shed one of my 5 layers.

  12. First time out on the driving range since the fall. Oof, there’s work to be done. That nasty hook showed up again, so I’ve got review my past lessons, settle down my swing and ease back into the groove. Just reserved a tee time for Thursday, so I’ll be out again at the range tomorrow, looking to get things loose and ready to go (no pressure, Bob). On the range, my new Sub 70 699-U V2 5 (23°) did not disappoint. I hit a few balls, and it’s a nice ball flight. At the moment it’s filling my 170-yard gap with a manageable dispersion easily—almost too easily. I was reviewing my distances, and while it’s filling the gap well now. I wonder what the story will be when I hit my groove. I can’t wait to see what happens. I wouldn’t be surprised if this club is my gateway to Sub 70 irons … I love it when my conscious mind catches up with my subconscious intentions. It’s going to be an interesting week, to say the least.

  13. Today I'm going to go with good afternoon everyone! It's Tuesday and I sat in the car this morning drinking coffee, listening to podcasts, and tried not to pass back out. Tuesday's have that effect on me. I get home from work and its beautiful outside, 75 and sunny. I thought about going to the range, but I had a meeting at work that went a little longer than expected. I hope you all have had a wonderful day.

  14. This morning's crazy driver near disaster... I'm following a large movers truck through an intersection .. and on the other side, on "our" same side, of the intersection is a car waiting to pull out from a current gas station .. left, apparently, across our travel lane... ..well as the truck has crossed the intersection and is practically crossing that car .. yep .. *then* they decide to pull out.... But that's not the end of it... ..there was already a line of cars in the other lane waiting to make their left turn, so this person really had nowhere to go yet... ..truck hits the brakes and sounds the horn .. driver lurches forward .. and only avoided hitting a large white shiny Range Rover - ie hard not to see! - as the Range Rover driver pulled a quick evasive maneuver...

  15. The Titleist 818 H2 has been in my bag since it released back in 2018. It does everything I want it to do from a shotmaking perspective, but as my swing has evolved, I have noticed a slight gapping issue. My H2 is good for about 223-227 yards of carry. Fantastic for my 20* hybrid, but the problem was once I added a beefier 4 iron two years ago, I noticed that the gap between 4i and hybrid might be a bit too tight, while the gap between my 3W and hybrid was almost 30 yards of carry. I sold one of my extra putters and that gave me enough to cover the costs of a new Titleist TS3R hybrid. They his stores today so I scheduled my fitting. I have a Tour AD DI shaft that I love so that was going to be the shaft I used during my fitting. Main goal was to figure out what loft, sleeve and weight settings would give me what I needed. I arrived at the shop and warmed up and then went and hit my 4 iron, current hybrid and Ping G425LST 3W 4iron carry: 215 yards 818 H2: 225 yards 3W: 255 yards So right away my suspicions were concerned: 10 yard gap on the low end and 30 yard gap on the high end. We started with the 21* TSR3 set on C1 (my setting on my 818 h2) and... I couldn't find the middle of the face. Bottom groove after bottom groove. Drop in distance because I couldn't hit the middle. Shook it off. He swapped me into the 19* head and it was more of the same. The TSR3 head was only 2g heavier than my 818 H2 head, but it felt COMPLETELY foreign to me. I could not make a consistent swing with it. After moving the weight slider and changing the hosel a bunch, we just couldn't get it to a spot where I had any sort of consistency. He put my 818 H2 back on and it was back to the usual middle of the face contact with 225 carry. Not always a bad thing to have an trusty club, not matter how old it is. Maybe I would search out a 19 degree head on ebay and see if I could squeak out a few more yards. The fitter than randomly said "why don't we just try the TSR2 for fun". He brought over the 18* head and put it in my AD DI. The head looked good. Looked like a mini fairway wood which, through bigger than the 818 H2, didn't bother me. Waggled it down by the ball and it felt much more similar to my H2 in terms of waggle feel (I am very sensitive to change swing weight). He confirmed that he weighed the head and it was identical to my 818 H2 head. First 5 swings were carbon copies of each other. Great ball speed, high launch with a little baby fade and the carry yardages on my first 3 swings was as follows: 227, 227, 226, 227, 227. Holy friggen consistency. It felt incredible, sounded incredible and was so easy to hit. But we just needed more distance. I told him I have no problem choking down an inch and hitting a high fade to take yardage off, so we wanted to push the standard swing carry distance higher so he swapped in to the 18 degree head. First 5 swings: 236, 237, 237, 236, 235 Baby fades. Perfect launch. Spinning around 3500-4000. 120ft peak height. 45* descent angle Just incredible numbers in the exact window I was hoping to get my yardage up to. I hit some more shots with it and noticed a big difference in forgiveness. I didn't have any toe hooks or heely spinners. Big difference from my 818 H2 Before we made the final decision we put the 818 H2 head back in and I took a few more swings. Topped out at 227 yards. Mishits were noticeably more penal. Moral of the story? GET FIT. If I were to have just blindly bought the TSR3 thinking it was going to be a plug and play solution for me, I would have been massively disappointed. Cannot wait to get my new TSR2 Hybrid on the course!

  16. gm everyone (is that how it's done @cksurfdude?) A beautiful sunny but chilly morning today. My wife is about to head out to play in her Wednesday ladies league group. I'm sitting here drinking my 2nd cup of coffee trying to decide if I want to brave the cold and walk another 9 holes for the 3rd day in a row. I will at least go to the club for some short game practice and chat with the pro. Today is our first day that GHIN is active. Mine hasn't been active for a couple of years (been keeping track of it myself), but I thought I would renew this year (ulterior motive). Apparently I can't renew online unless I join our Men's Club which I won't do. I think I can do it at the club.

    YOGA

My wife is looking into starting up yoga again after many, many years layoff. I think she would like me to join her, but I'm almost as flexible as a 2x4. I have been doing some stretches that I started last year when I had spasms in my lower right side that my massage therapist said were my psoas ( I had to look that up). But the exercises relieved the spasms, and my lower back seems to be much better overall. I keep adding in exercises if it seems like it will help golf and they won't send me to the hospital.

    YOGA

Yep degenerative osteoarthritis in the spine (amongst other joints) means yoga is a HUGE help to me! First, though, you're on the right track - start out simple and slow and easy, and build up from there. So I'd found a book .. yes an actual hardcover book .. that's one of those illustrated guides page by page of yoga poses; it highlights what muscle groups each move targets. Started with a few that seemed to help stretch and strengthen parts of the back, and supplemented that with additional moves I've seen in golf-specific workout videos (eg. for the hips) plus moves shown to me by my chiropractor and by my physical therapist (both of whom are golfers!). Cannot recommend a particular app but as others have mentioned there are sooooo many resources available on the web... Maybe start by looking at TPI, they offer a range of exercises; then search YT for "yoga for golf" - tip: put the phrase in quotes for your search - and you'll get a bunch of results.

  19. I finally got to play today for the first time in a while. I was very happy with how I played overall, No birds, but a bunch of pars. I shot 43-43-86 with a triple on the front and the back. Both were from the middle of the fairway, one on a par 5 when what I thought was a perfect PW came up 15yds short into the wind plugged in a bunker from where hilarity ensued, and a shank on a par 4 that ended up in jail at the base of a bush. I tried to hit it out right handed with my 8, and ended up in just as bad a spot about 5 yards away. Took a unplayable and… ugh. All in all though I hit the ball pretty well and made a few bucks in shop credit. It was also great to see my buds for the first time in over a month. I’m not much of a drinker, but today I stayed a little later than usual afterwards, and had a couple of scotches (maybe one too many) but what the heck!

  20. I joined the MGS to hear what others think about golf in general. I enjoy seeing what equipment others use and the results of test to see if there may be other equipment that I may want to try. I am now enjoying the yearlong fantasy golf competition with several of the other forum members. The members are friendly and will provide assistance whenever asked. Thanks for all you do.

  22. G’day Golfers, Last week, despite the lack of household names, the final round (especially the last few holes) were absolutely electric to watch. Just goes to show that the PGA Tour field is DEEP, and the absence of big names doesn’t necessarily mean a boring tournament. Top-10 players? Who needs ‘em? Anyway, onto this week’s tournament and the triumphant return of the big names This week we’re onto the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the fourth designated event for the 2023 season, and a tournament that awards the 3rd most prestigious piece of clothing in golf behind the Green Jacket at The Masters, and the Gold Jacket in Happy Gilmore. The Arnold Palmer Invitational is played at Bay Hill Club & Lodge a 7,466-yard par-72 course. Like the PGA National last week, water is a common site at Bay Hill with water hazards in play on 9 holes. The Arnie Invitational at Bay Hill has had the highest percentage of penalty strokes in three of the last four years, so avoiding hazards is paramount for any golfer looking for success on this course. Being able to bomb it accurately from the tee and a sharp short game will go far at this event. Being a designated event, some of the biggest names in golf will tee it up this week, with forty-four of the world's top fifty playing, including nine of the current OWGR top 10. The only player in the current world top 10 not playing is Cameron Smith as he is away LIV-ing his best life. Of the three designated events so far this year, Rahm has won two and Scheffler has won the other. Scheffler is also the defending champ here; last year he won by one shot over Hatton in some of the worst conditions in the tournament's history. It was a thrilling final round and hopefully, we’re treated to the same again. A combination of the highly ranked field, a tough-ass course, and anticipated tough weather conditions means this is going to be a difficult weekend. Whoever comes out on top this week will have certainly earnt their huge cheque. Field Highlights · The Big Three: Rahm, McIlroy, & Scheffler – Despite a highly talented field, three golfers clearly stand out from the pack. I’ve decided to join these guys together as whatever I can write about one can be cut and pasted to the other: Former/current world number 1, big bomber from the tee, currently playing some fantastic golf, strong short game, good history at this event (McIlroy and Scheffler have both won it, with Rahm a T-17 in 2022), I could go on. The odds are on one of these three slipping into that red cardigan on Sunday. · Will Zalatoris – Zal has had some back issues as of late which meant that after his first career win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, he had to withdraw from the very next event at the BMW Championship. He then did not start at the Tour Championship with week after the BMW. But, if his recent record is anything to go by (and forgive the pun), Willy Z is BACK. Zal finished solo 4th at the very difficult Genesis Invitational a few weeks ago, he fired a final round 64 to put his name very much into the conversation. Zalatoris tends to thrive in difficult conditions and tough events, so this week will fit him like a glove. · Matt Fitzpatrick – Steady has been the name of the game so far this year for Fitzy with two T-13’s, a T-29, and a T-7 at The Sentry Tournament of Champions. He’s also missed two cuts, one at Pebble Beach and one at The Genesis Invitational. However, his history at this event is promising: T-9 in 2022, T-10 in 2021, T-9 in 2020, solo 2nd in 2019, if there’s anyone who can take it to The Big Three it's Matt Fitzpatrick. And, if you’ve watched Full Swing on Netflix, you just know Fitzpatrick has stackes of notes from his previous successes here. · Sam Burns – Current world number 14, Burns has had a good start to his 22-23 season. A T-30, T-7, solo-12th, T-11, and his best finish of the season a T-6 at the WM Phoenix Open a few weeks back. He missed the cut at The Genesis Invitational, an opening 75 ended up being too much to climb back from. Sam Burns is not a player I would ever count out, he won three times on tour last year and I’d expect him to get at least one or two more this season. Will his game be enough to compete at this difficult course the toughest competition in the world? · Sahith Theegala – Despite still waiting for his maiden win, Theegala is ranked 31st in the OWGR and 10th in the current FedEx Cup rankings. He’s had a busy season so far playing 11 events, and what’s more impressive is his record. He’s had one runner-up, 5 top-10’s, and 6 top-25s. He failed to make the cut here last year, but it was his rookie season and his golf this year is far steadier. Surely, he gets his first win this season, the only question is when? The full field can be found here. How is everyone finding these designated events so far? I’m loving the ebb and flow it’s adding to the season; these higher-status events almost feel like mini-majors, and, if The Honda Classic is anything to go by, the non-designated events will be a great showcase for players that don’t normally have a spotlight. For those in the MGS Pick ‘Em, we’ve found already that it’s critical to do well during these designated events, so make sure you pick the winner. Regards, Splatt

    YOGA

My back is giving me such a hassle of late and not being able to get into the gym, stretches are helping and been looking into yoga. All I was doing were body weight squats before a cardio class. I'm looking for opinions/suggestions of their experience with doing yoga and what apps/websites they use. I have been to a couple of yoga places but they are to quiet for guy who can't get into or even close to be a pretzel. With my back simple moves aren't easy, bird dogs, cat cows, etc are my extent. I am sure if I have more instruction or ideas would be better for progressing since golf season is here. I have almost done one of those yoga apps but haven't pushed the button yet. We come to this site for help with club decisions, swing thoughts ideas and help I figured I'd ask for help with this as well. Thanks for any suggestions Jeremy

I have a video series called 'Yoga For Golf' - I guess it's online as well. Her videos are simple, easy to understand and replicate and has a golf orientation. I'm not as diligent in doing the exercises as I have been in the past - but I can confirm that it's a major help.

  27. Grips. That time of year. Golf Pride Tour Velvet Plus 4. Used them for the first time last year. Love the feel of the velvet, but was having issues with some arthritis in my left hand. I decided to try the plus 4 version and glad I did. The extra size on the bottom the grip helped solve the arthritis issues I was having. If you have this issue worth giving them a try.

  28. Last year in July, my wife bought ShotScope as a gift for our anniversary. I was not interested in continuing with Arccos, as I kept having issues with it, and was not interested in the yearly subscription cost. Since July I have had ups and downs with ShotScope, but for the most part were user errors. ShotScope has replaced my V3 once due to some 'known issues' and since then has worked well IF I follow a certain routine: I leave the app on my phone logged out. Before I play I will log in and check for updates to the courses I am subscribed to. IF I follow this procedure, things tend to go better. Another thing I do now is when I address the ball, and take a practice swing or two, I touch the sensor on my club to the watch band to ensure the shot is recorded. Hopefully as I move forward my 'routines' will continue to work.

I do yoga for around 15 mins every morning, it's been a tremendous help for my back, legs, and hips. Plus it's helped me get more flexible in my core, which translates to the course. Between BeachBody (my wife has a subscription) and YouTube, I'm covered. My favorite channel on YouTube is Yoga with Kassandra, she has a playlist of nearly 100 vids that are 10-15 mins long, perfect for a quick morning stretch for folks of all ages and abilities. Or if you want to go longer, she has playlists for that too.

  30. This suggests real communication and what a great way to help focus a group of potential testers for what they are submitting to join. Would help to decide to test now or wait to test later for something more of interest to the potential tester. Could also elevate the testing techniques, capturing the testing, and delivery of results. I really like the opportunity to talk and get to know each other in ways that these text based communications cannot. Got my recurring phone alarm set for Thursday 4pm EST, do you?

I'm a Peloton guy but battling golfers/tennis elbow right now so taking time off from lifting. Rather than just riding every day I did their 3 week beginning yoga program and really enjoyed it. Seems a good mix of stretching and bodyweight strength. I can see myself mixing it in to my regular workouts. So that said if you aren't in the Peloton platform I don't have much to suggest on where to go. If you want to try Peloton you can just download the app and there is usually a 30 or 60 day free trial to see if you like the classes. They have a ton of yoga and strength classes that don't require their Tread, Bike or Rowing machines.

  38. On a previous forum we discussed the SQAIRZ’s shoes and the evolution of their product. Mr. Bob Winskowicz the CEO from SQAIRZ is one of the few members of the golf equipment industry to actually take the time to engage with us on these sites. The engagement on the original SQAIRZ thread led to Mr. Winskowicz and I having some direct communications. In this engagement I was offered the chance to give the New SQAIRZ BOLD a test run. I have always been a Footjoy guy, but went into the test with an open mind. Here are my thoughts: First the shoes came well packaged and included a pair of socks and alternative laces. Footjoy does not offer those extras. First impressions go a long way. These shoes are clean and scream stability. I chose the white with the red accents. This shoe is sharp looking, but can it perform? The SQAIRZ BOLD were a perfect fit out of the box. I wear a 9 1/2 in Footjoy’s and the sizing for the SQAIRZ was exactly the same. I originally had concerns because my previous experience with the original SQAIRZ was a heavy shoe that hurt my feet in the heel. These new shoes are showcase the evolution of SQAIRZ. The SQAIRZ BOLD fit perfect. They were extremely stable yet I did not find them too heavy. These shoes could be worn walking or riding. So, in a nutshell these shoes are comfortable out of the box and fit great. The only feedback I provided at this stage: personally I prefer a pull tab on the heel to help inserting my foot into the shoe. The test shoes did not have that feature and not sure if the final version will have the tab. However, it isn’t a major item and some people probably prefer no pull tab. What you are really waiting for is performance. As Jack Nicklaus has stated “the golf swing starts from the ground up”. On the course: the shoes broke in immediately! The square toe not only assist with performance, but I found it assisted with alignment. Especially during putting. So, I am a very aggressive swinger. I tend to leave nothing in the bag. I have had shoes before (Footjoy Traditions) where my foot slipped out from under me. This will never happen in the SQAIRZ BOLD! This shoe is stable and has superior spikes. Also SQAIRZ will give you replacement spikes for the life of the shoe. I don’t know any other company with that offer. I truly gave these shoes a test ride. Balance and stability were the key elements of these shoes. I could swing as aggressive as I wanted without worry. Lastly, the company claims these shoes will add distance. Well when you gave a stable platform and can keep your balance good things happen. I found I gained 5 to 10 yards off the driver and 5 yards with my irons. This was extremely impressive. Final thoughts: if you are looking for a great golf shoe consider the SQAIRZ BOLD. These are a clean looking shoe that is comfortable. However, the greatest feature is the stability and balance. Looking forward to the release of this shoe next month!

  42. Hi all! Just starting to kick the tires as the season is more or less upon us. I've been getting emails from courses that are going to open in the next week or so. Anyway, who is interested in an April meetup? I know conditions can be sketchy cause of rain, so if no one is up for it, we can just plan on May and go from there.

  44. Curious where my checkin will be at for speed. Haven’t done speed work in almost two weeks due to weather and cons at the gym. Fortunately still been able to strength train which may still help

    YOGA

My standard workouts incorporate yoga and stretches which is nice. I also have a stretching program that is pretty good. Inexpensive and is day to day videos. I signed up for 2 different programs but they have a ton. https://members.yogabody.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fmembers.yogabody.com&wlfrom=%2F

    YOGA

DDPY! I've been doing DDP Yoga for a couple of years now. For those don't know or don't remember, Diamond Dallas Page was a pro wrestler back in the 90's with WCW. He injured his back wrestling and found yoga to be a huge help during his rehab. I really like his program because it really focuses on the back and he's still got that wresting edge that sets it apart from the normal "namaste" yoga vibe.

    YOGA

There are plenty of free yoga videos on YouTube and some on Amazon prime. Many of the bigger YouTube yoga channels will have 30-day progressions for beginners that you can follow along with at home. I've done yoga for years, but I've never been to a yoga studio. It just seemed like it was so much easier to do in your living room with only the cost of a yoga mat. Good luck!
