Cutting Down a Driver Shaft

Recommended Posts

I've got two spare stock stiff TFC189 driver shafts from my G25 lying around. I've been contemplating trimming 1" off the butt of one of them just to experiment with. I understand the effects of trimming the shaft to swingweight, etc.

My question is what should I use to cut it? Options that I currently own are dremel with cut off wheel, hack saw, or hand saw. Also, should I tape that shaft or anything prior to cutting it?

As always, any help is appreciated.

I'd go hack saw or dremel cut off wheel and yes to taping it first. Just wrap a layer to two of masking tape tight and you should be fine with either option

I've dremeled and hacked, but I found that a metal angle grinder works best.   Goes through graphite like butter and with a very straight cut.

Chop saw with a fiber blade is the best option if you have one.  If not, you can buy a mini 4" one at Harbor Freight.

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

I needed to shorten up a set of Warrior clubs I picked up at a yard sale for $10.  I'm 6ft but the shafts way too long. I used an angle grinder with a cut off wheel. I taped the carbon shafts after cutting off the old, hard grips. I spent more on the grip kit from Amazon than I did for the set of clubs. Don't breathe carbon dust! It's bad for the lungs.

I know this is an old thread, but people sometimes actually use the search function to research things.20190622_145614.thumb.jpg.7864fb8641116f8908335bb7ac8708ea.jpg20190622_145657.thumb.jpg.73ed326540747c2b7aeeeb987a463170.jpg1561241302572767413709.thumb.jpg.3b49752d5ebcea8e6d9ce31e2f697f94.jpg

I do 2 laps of tape and cut with a hacksaw, then sand the edge smooth.

After sanding I add some super glue on the edge. Maybe not necessary but I like to think it will prevent fraying.

Store super glue in the fridge for much longer shelf life.
