Ouch! My best guess is poor shaft prep work. Did you buy this used or new?

Only $30/doz on Amazon.  My first impression is that they look a little busy.  They feel like a quality ball in hand, but not sure that means much if anything.  Will report back!  Thanks for looking!

I "found" a Sure-Out maybe 10 or 12 years ago, I am on my 2nd, it is truly 90% success first shot from sand.  I rarely use it for longer than a greenside bunker.  My normal course is hardpan, not grass rough, if I miss the airway, so big bounce is not called for.  I have enough Mizuno GFF wedges and a Ginty II BeCu, that I use the Hoagie just for sand.  Will probably use it til I die or can't lift it anymore.

Long post incoming 🙂

A few weeks ago I bought a new putter with the intention of trying out one of the low torque graphite shafts.   The biggest issue with purchasing these shafts is that there is little opportunity to actually test them so you typically end up in a buy-to-try type scenario.  I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to try quite a few of them but haven't really had much objective evidence to show if they are better.

I have previously tested: LA Golf, Original BGT Stability, BGT Stability Tour,  Accra Sync, UST All-In, PXG M16 and the Accra and TPT  LAB shafts.  I reached out to my local Club Champion to see what they had and how they did testing since you can't easily switch shafts like you can with other clubs.  Their response was that it was difficult to test them but they had Kinetixx Tuned Zero TRQ, LA Golf, All-In, KBS GPS, BGT Carbon, BGT Tour, BGT One, VA Composites Vylyn, and VA Composite Baddazz available in blade style putters that were similar to the putter I bought and that we could get on Puttlab and see how they performed.

Looking on their schedule and they happened to have a spot open this morning as well as a discount on the fitting if you bought equipment from them....cost was $50 down from $125 and I was willing to spend the $125 if we didn't find anything that worked.

Started with a little warmup and then we tested my Sacks Parente putter to see how it performed.   Performance wasn't bad but the thought was that it could be improved.  Unfortunately, I didn't get a Puttlab report from all the tests we.  Biggest observation that was noticed throughout the testing was that I addressed the ball slightly on the toe; so I do have something to practice.  Overall, my stoke has a slower tempo, not a lot of rotation, a little loop at transition, and toe side impact.  During the session; that lasted about 1 1/2 hours, I tried all the available shafts and based on what I thought I might like we tested the BGT One, and the VA Composites Vylyn and Baddazz on Puttlab.  We also tested the More Golf putter that would receive the new shaft and determined it performed about the same as the Sacks Parente except the path was a bit right biased unlike all the other putters we tested.  What I learned is that with my slower stroke I preferred the softer feeling shafts.   Since we weren't really concerned with the putter the metrics we looked at were: Face at impact, path, Impact Location, and face rotation through impact zone.   While the putter itself can have an influence on these the shaft plays a part as well unlike something like aim.

So what ended up being the best?  Most of the shafts didn't fee that great to me;  generally felt too stiff during the stroke.  Overall I found both the VA Composite shafts to be amazing.  The fitter liked one shaft and I liked the other so we did a side by side comparison of the data and when we did that one really stood out as being better.    Fitter said they weren't able to email me the report but I could take pictures.  So here they are:

Summary of performance (anything over 75% for a category is what they try to get you too):

IMG_1052(Custom).jpg.83f8faf85d44748336bac13d98d2f9c5.jpg

I setup with a slight aim to the right.  Note that it is very consistent.

IMG_1053(Custom).jpg.d9095b940dfdb655fb24b16cf6b7718d.jpg

Very consistent with path and face angle at impact.

IMG_1054(Custom).jpg.4d3bbfcd274a8de13d7f6a0c36437c63.jpg

Note that the path is a little long but consistent.   If you zoom in you can see the dotted line/solid line separate from back swing to through swing which is the loop I mentioned.

IMG_1055(Custom).jpg.435e93ada1ecd18a9189b103ecdaca78.jpg

Impact is high toe,  but this was the most consistent of all the shafts.  Low score on spit is because Puttlab wants center contact.

IMG_1056(Custom).jpg.f20427d441fe2b6324c834c406f578e4.jpg

What the fitter looked at here was the consistency of rotation in just before and after impact.   Ideally those numbers are identical.

IMG_1058(Custom).jpg.b211fa47d6c32cea02ce142c1578c407.jpg

Face to path is pretty good;   does look like one putt kind of got away from me.

IMG_1059(Custom).jpg.a70a92826f86fd956daed036d40862f4.jpg

Swing dynamics look pretty good.  with consistent speed and good acceleration.

IMG_1060(Custom).jpg.a6849e1573ead6d8989d893b24e8b42e.jpg

As I noted my stroke is on on the slow side.

IMG_1061(Custom).jpg.bc3765cf5dc1a88ad9f46dc7ec927e2d.jpg

After the fitting I was presented with the quote for the shaft, grip, and labor to install in my putter.   Since I have been researching these shafts I knew the prices in the market place.   Price was only slightly higher than if I bought from an online site but if I didn't buy the shaft from CC the fitting would have been more expensive so I was okay with the price and purchased the shaft.   Expected arrival is fairly long (2-4 week estimate).

How did you guess?!

"Dark Eagles  a History of ", 2003, by Curtis Peebles.   When published, even he denied the existence of Aurora, the next gen of hypersonics.  The intense heat problems of hypersonic speed so far makes weapons and such not too close to deployment, methinks.  The guidance systems and the molecular makeup of fuel and a proposed explosive were hard enough at Mach 3 in the SR-71.  At Mach 5 or 6, an Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor is not going to cut the mustard.

It’s a narrow sole with 60° 8° bounce vs wide 58° with 12° bounce. I really hadn’t considered getting rid of it simply because they have low value used when they are so cheap new. Plus I have the option of swapping them based on expected course conditions.

Will do.  Here's a preview:  I played 18 with them yesterday.  I want to play at least one more round before I weigh in fully, but I can say I was very impressed with ball flight off driver and on approach shots.

Will do.  Here's a preview:  I played 18 with them yesterday.  I want to play at least one more round before I weigh in fully, but I can say I was very impressed with ball flight off driver and on approach shots.

The real question is going to be if these are worth switching from the Maxfli Tour S that I've been using for the past 2 seasons. Relatively same cost, construction, and compression.

So question for the group. Just did a Titleist wedge fitting and got to hit the new GT driver. I was shocked at how far my totals were. I understand range balls suck, but would the Titleist balls they gave us to hit make that much difference. I feel like my 230 to 250, I was totaling 270-280.

I know the jokes of they juice the Trackman or balls, but I was surprised. My other thought was the range was pretty much a dog track, so maybe it just rolled a ton after carry.

I think the main issue with MPF is it is the equivalent to a religion.

Either you believe it or you dont.

Seems odd that massive companies like Taylormade, Titleist, and Ping would spend so much time and money on R&D with new clubs if MPF  and its calculations were absolute. Somehow they spend all that money and still rank poorly compared to Maltby clubs.

I dont think its akin to a religion. Its design/engineering theory but not all you need to look at when picking a club.

Like sole design seen on the like srixon irons for example makes a huge difference on how easy they are to play, but not something MPF even considers. Same with offset and many other things that come into play as well with iron design.

All the Game Improvement models from TM, Ping, and Titleist are also have high MPF scores as well so brands aside from Maltby still gets objective data and scores, but of course, the guy who developed the rating is going to use it as a tool to market or show superiority in comparison.

Among all the people who have tried Maltby recently seem to concur the forgiving aspect of it.

But for example, lets look at non maltby ratings on SGI irons.

TM : Stealth HD:  972 (higher than all Current Maltby models) QI : 876 very high as well

Titleist: T350: 820,  T300 = 877 very high

Ping G430: 741 High but not as high as expected

Cobra Air x : 854 high

Some Maltby Ratings:

TS1M : 728

TS3: 849

TS4 : 755

TE+ : 838

Ke4 Max: 959 Almost as high as TM Stealth HD

Add to the consideration that Maltby says anything under a 200 difference is hardly noticeable. It actually seems that many non Maltby models are rated higher than the Maltby offerings.

Point being is it is a tool to assess the head design and overall forgiveness but it is not all that you need to consider. But if I see a Ping G something rated at 400 or something, Id def be somewhat off put by it, but not enough to not purchase them without trying them. But this conspiracy to make their clubs look better they use MPF just doesnt seem to be accurate by their own numbers.

It’s a narrow sole with 60° 8° bounce vs wide 58° with 12° bounce. I really hadn’t considered getting rid of it simply because they have low value used when they are so cheap new. Plus I have the option of swapping them based on expected course conditions.

Oh guess I misread your earlier post 🤦‍♂️ ... will have to poke around online.

What were you seeing with flight and distance. You have a good idea of what your normal distance is based on sight.  Did you feel like it was well beyond that?

I use Arccos so I’m fairly familiar, usually I have a golf idea. My average for todays round was 220, with my longest at 253

So comparing flight, did the GT seem to fly better?  Numbers could be slightly skewed depending on how things are set up but shouldn't be just a ton off.
