Missed out on the mp64s...bidding went way over my budget.

Now thinking about a vintage set.

Have my eyes on Hogan Apex Edge Pro, MacGregor, Srixon i302, etc

Anyone have any vintage irons that they really like?

I feel like it would be fun to have an older set and have heard that the older Hogans are some of the best feeling forged ever....

Wedges, all wedges. I love my original PING Glides, but I’ve had them for 3 seasons, and the grooves are wearing out. (Not to mention my gapping has changed significantly in those three years.) The Glide 3.0 are obviously top on my list, but I’m gonna start testing them out with an open mind.

Wilson Staff C300 9.0* Fujikura Pro 58 stiff

Callaway Rogue 3W Mitsubishi Diamana D+ LTD 80 stiff

Mizuno MP-18 MMC FLI-HI 2 iron UST Mamiya Recoil 95 stiff

Ping I200's 4-W Aerotech Steelfiber I110 CW stiff

Ping Glide 52* and 58* stiff

Thanks!

I went bargain/vintage hunting yesterday and was able to find 845 Silver Scot, Eye2, mp32....Eye2 are so easy to hit, mp32 had me gushing.

Wish I could find some real vintage stuff like the MacGregor and Hogan

Ha!

Those 1025m are vintage unicorns.

Those that have them aren't letting them go and if they do they want a pretty penny for them.

They do look spectacular. 🤩

Thinking about going for a shaft only fitting.  My beginner set of clubs all came with Regular flex and I've questioned off and on if I need stiff flex.  Dont have any specifics in mind other than no outrageous pricetag like Fujikura and high end Mitsubishi shafts.

Sounds like a smart thought. If you're interested in graphite iron shafts, take a look at the Recoils. Great shaft at about $25 each. Also the Project X Even Flow series for woods and hybrids can be had for about $110 a piece and are a great shaft if they fit your swing profile.

I can vouch for the Hogan Edge Pro's. I still have them in my holiday bag, couldn't bear to part with them. The Apex 4 shafts are a great fit for me. Hopefully you can find some at a good price. They are such a soft forging you will be able to get lie angles easily adjusted to suit if needed.

Seriously thinking about dropping some cash on Mizuno MP 18 SC irons. At $400.00+ off, it's still a considerable amount of $$$ for me. I'm trying to talk myself out of it, but I'm losing the battle. I'll probably own these in the very near future.

Do it. The SC are great irons and you can never go wrong with Mizuno. Grab them then go find some nippons pulls to put in them

Funny story, I was at GG last weekend waiting to hit the the Demo T400 they had just gotten in.  The sales rep goes to the guy in line before me and asks what can he help him with.

Customer: "I'm looking for an X-Stiff 3 wood that I can control and hit 250 to reach the par 5's instead of having to layup. I want to try the SIM and MAVRIK."

The sales guy tells him they don't have any X Stiff shafts, ask's what his driver swing speed is, the guys says about 115 to 120.  So the rep say try this it should work it was a EvenFlow 6.0 I think I heard him say.

So the guy proceeds to hit about 12 out of 15 shots fat never getting one past 222 including the roll.  The Sales guys says, you swing speed is showing 88 (3 wood) so I'd say stiff is right at what you need.

Customer: "I think the stiff shaft is causing me to lose control and not hit it cleanly, that's why I need the X Stiff.  You sure you don't have any"

SMH...I think I've been behind this guy on the golf course before. Waiting for the green to clear, only to top an 80 yard worm burner....ha

I’ve probably played with him or his twin brother.  Definitely seen his close relatives on various courses

He could always just go the steel shaft route in the 3w.  HAHAHAHAHA

Must be fun to be a club fitter and have your customers tell you what you need to give them....they should use a sharpie on reg/stiff shafts and write in "Extra" and use those when guys like this come along.

... Some here probably know that Ely Callaway tapped into this phenomenon with the most successful product launch ever. He knew golfers ego's prevented them from choosing the right clubs. Almost always too stiff and not enough loft. He addressed this in the most brilliant way, but did throw what were once pretty standard specs completely out of whack. When Ely introduced the Big Bertha, he took his R-Flex shaft and put a S-Flex label on it and he took a driver head labeled 9* but it was actually 12-14*. Same thing with fairway woods labeled 3 wood and although he didn't list lofts, most assumed around 13-15* when it was actually 16-18*.

... All of a sudden, average golfers with a 100+ swing speed  🤣  that hit their drivers 210 were hitting their drivers 230. They were also hitting their fairway woods off the turf with a higher trajectory. For the very first time they were playing with equipment that at least more closely matched their needs. Brilliant.

Sounds awesome.... I cannot find a combo set anywhere.  I either have to buy 2 full sets and drop some clubs or buy 1 full set and then buy the others individually.  Ugh.

I’ve ran into the same problem in the past. I like the irons so much I wanted at least one backup set.

With all the Coronavirus closing going on right now I’m thinking I may need a putter.
I just sent off my Flow neck x5 to Continental Golf and while I don’t know for sure that my refinish will be affected, I’m thinking I better start shopping around just in case!
