Depends. What is the knee pain resulting from? Arthritis, previous knee surgery, or current knee injury? Is it pain behind the knee, inside, outside, front?

The pain is on again and off again, it started by trying too many new moves in golf. Such as keeping the trail knee flexed in the backswing. I'd say the pain is in front. Thanks!

That's a lot of rotational stress to put on your knee joint if your hips are not moving properly.

Rest, ice, compression and elevation are a good place to start. Without being screened by a medical provider it is tough to know what is going on. A Physical therapist or a sports medicine chiropractor would be able to screen the injury and get you stretches if they're appropriate or rule out any meniscus or tendon/ ligament issue.

Might need to visit your doc if your insurance doesn't allow direct access.

I went through ACL + MCL surgery 5 years ago and the PT suggested stretching only after warming up. So to your question, as someone who is always trying to keep his knee in good shape, I always aim to ride a stationary bike for 10 minutes or go for a quick jog before heading to the course.
