We're getting shorter?

Interesting article on this morning's feed from Golf Digest about length - makes sense since the golfing population is most likely skewed to older players.

That's interesting I think this shows less younger people getting into the game as well or at least not playing as well as the younger group before them

Yes... I went to the doctor last month and I shrunk another 1/2".  

 

Oh wait!  You mean distance off the tee!!  I have been trying to do my part to raise the stats.  I went through another swing change and gained a few more yards.  I'm really just trying to maintain what I have, but if I can add a few more, might as well while I can.

Interesting how the article could be viewed as a summary of posts that I've made in various threads over the past week.

 

“Better golfers hit the ball farther - duh” - except of course on golf forums where everyone hits it farther than a touring pro, we just can't putt. That's why we aren't on tour. Ball striking has nothing to do with it at all.

 

“We should learn from lpga players” - not a chance - we should be dominating on their tour with how we hit the ball - 5 iron 220, 9 iron 170 in on their courses baby.🤣

There was an interesting stat that compared Hale Irwin's driver distance today to 1980. That is a great demonstration of the difference equipment makes IMO. The other one is the jump of a few yards for low handicappers that parallels tour players jump. It suggests that the better the player the more likely he or she will be able to take advantage of equipment gains.

In reality, EVERY golfer loses yardage over time, yet improvements in equipment might slow the rate, but we'll all eventually stop being able to hit the ball as far as we do today, individually.

“Couldn't resist “. You live for it my man. It's also interesting that the optimal average length that the average golfer should hit it is 255. In other words, optimize your equipment by getting fit, then you may be able to keep up with us long ball hitters!

I'm working at (and) getting longer but from a different starting point. I'm 71 and just started playing a few years ago. What I've found out this year is that strength training (started in January) has really helped. Again it's relative - hitting a drive consistently at 210 -220 yds is my current goal. Additionally I got to borrow a LM from my Club for the C300 testing - that has helped me as well especially with my irons. Note the LM has an added benefit as I'm looking at the screen at impact which keeps my head down resulting in better shots.

I am unfortunately at the point where I am noticing a loss of distance across the board. I need one more club for everything this year. What is one club more for the driver?
