If I was't running an electronics business I'd be a design/build architect.

Be careful what you ask for.....................

You might be a better person, but you may not like the price you had to pay to become a better person. I know, because I prayed a lot to become a better person. Maybe not in all cases, but I paid a hefty price to become a better person.

Having said that... it's worked out for the best after a few years of struggling and coming to terms.

Okay.... sorry for the derail of the thread. Mods, please take it down if you feel you need to.

While I don't understand I certainly respect the knowledge you have gained through your life's journey. “A better person” is an extremely subjective state of being. For me I wake up everyday wanting to be a little better everyday and certainly not wanting to repeat the sins of the past. Life is not a sprint. It is a marathon without a finish line [emoji469].

Another if I knew then what I know now I would have become a mechanical engineer...I just love that stuff.

Instead I landed in investigations and CPP, had fun, made tons of money but paying for it physically now.

In that case, I'd like to be a holistic healer or Shaman. Help people with their TOTAL wellbeing, Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, and Physical.

Comforting the entire being of someone that is struggling with illness would be a worthwhile endeavor.

I don't want to be anyone different (unless it'd be Tom Brady or Justin Verlander... [emoji6]), but in terms of jobs, knowing what I know now, I think I would LOVE being a PGA teaching pro. I know it's a job like any other, but from afar it looks like something I'd have liked a lot. As it is, I'm an engineer... [emoji58]

If I weren't a CPA I would have been a lawyer. Best decision I made was to defer law school for a year and get a job. Led to a pretty good career track for me.

Interesting thread. I get great satisfaction from my career and have a great family. That said, I read an article once that made me think, wow, some guys have it pretty good.

I can't find the article now, but the WSJ used to have a feature in which they'd interview someone (retired) about their career. A few years back they interviewed a guy who worked for IBM. His job was to entertain customers, specifically, every week, flying 8-12 customers from the northeast down to some some golf destination/resort in FL, the Caribbean, wherever. Every week, Tuesday or Wednesday to Saturday if I recall, he'd be playing golf. He did that for something like 30 years.

Maybe he's Fredo or Johnny Ola type, but it seemed pretty cool.

  • 2 weeks later...

My boys told me while we were together the last couple of weeks, " Dad you should write a book on how to be a Dad, cause we hope to be like you some day"  There were no gifts offered, it was genuine from the heart.  After I regained motor functions all I could do was smile.   Guess being me isn't so bad.  :>)
