PSA: Check Your Prescription (Glasses)!

Middler

Recommended Posts

I’d had one bad round after another for the past few months, without exception. Putting was still OK but I was hitting fat or thin more often than flush for all my other clubs and couldn’t figure out why - assumed it was winter cold, thin and/or muddy lies. It’s been discouraging.

I have to wear cheater glasses to see my ball clearly at address ***. Started with a +1.0 years ago, switched to +1.25 a couple years ago. Vision changes glacially, for me at least. A couple weeks ago I wondered if the glasses were the problem, so I took some old +1.50 cheaters to play golf. My ball striking improved dramatically and immediately, last couple rounds have been MUCH better, broke 40 on 9 for the first time in months and I’m sure I’ll break 80 again soon. The difference at address wasn’t obvious but clearly +1.25 wasn’t working anymore.

Don’t be a dope and suffer through months not seeing the ball like I did...

I’m even considering lasik to put this issue behind me as I hate wearing glasses.

*** I have progressive lens glasses for everyday but I can’t use them playing golf, so I have to use cheaters.

  • Middler changed the title to PSA: Check Your Prescription (Glasses)!

I've gone from cheaters to a prescription progressive lens and can attest to the distortion glasses make especially for putting.

Interesting. I have progressives but zero distortion problems with them. I also opted for the more expensive lenses with smaller distortion zones, so there is that.

I went the Lasik route 18 years ago but it didn't last as long as I hoped. Had to go back to contacts +1.5 but its not that bad. Then I have to wear readers +1.5 just for reading / up close work with contacts in. Tried the progressive lenses but that didn't work well for me.

My boss had a tough time with progressive lenses playing golf too.

I haven’t been to the eye doctor in years, last time I was checked was probably 5+ years ago, but I was at or better than 20/20 and haven’t noticed any decline. I’ll be going later this month for a check up though. My wife was scheduling one and I asked her to just book one for me too. Figure if I’m paying for it I should at least go for a check up!

Also, my dad HATES putting with his progressive lenses.
