Hi,

I have a problem with my V3 purchased in 2021. Am in contact with support and trying various resets. But the tags have stopped working. GPS works fine during rounds , just that my tags are not picking up the shots? Anyone similar problem. 3 years probably means no chance of replacement at this point?

Like @cnosil said, it is probably the watch band. You might try tightening the screws that hold the watch band on, especially the one connected at the top of the watch, as there is an electrical connection between it and the antenna inside it and the watch itself. If that doesn't do it, the watch band is bad.

Curious what you guys do with your really bad shots. I get using the positional marker for chips, pitches and other escape shots but what do you with the other gaffs. Yesterday I hit a 7-iron on an uphill par 3 and missed it right. Solid contact but it caught a tree limb about 150 yards out, dropped straight down, and proceeded to roll 50 yards back down a hill. End result was about 100 yards off the tee. Leave it as a tee shot? Mark it as positional? Other options?

You can do those or let the outlier algorithm take care of the shot.   P-avg is the number you will care about

Good to know. Will take a few more rounds to really make use of the algorithm for sure but was wondering how the average and P average worked in the dashboard.

AVG includes all shots, good and bad, that are farther from the hole than 50 yards. The P-AVG ignores outliers at both ends, the good and the bad. Also, you don't mark chips and pitches as "positional" unless you are hitting those shots to get a ball back in play, say from behind a tree. Around the green, chips and pitches are not included in your club distance averages. In fact, any shot 50 yards or fewer from the hole is included only in your short game stats. Finally, I don't believe you can mark any tee shot as positional.

This is interesting information. So, am I better off then going back and unmarking my chips and only leaving my escape/punch out shots as positional? I don’t want to skew data one way or another. Just want it to be accurate when I start looking at it at a larger scale later in the season.

Lots of little subtleties on how to accurately mark the data so you get good results.  I had to go back and mark some of my second shots on par 5s as positional to not mess up the approach shot stats.

Like @cnosil said, it is probably the watch band. You might try tightening the screws that hold the watch band on, especially the one connected at the top of the watch, as there is an electrical connection between it and the antenna inside it and the watch itself. If that doesn't do it, the watch band is bad.

SS has replaced my watchband for that exact reason.  They asked me to try a couple of tests, and then shipped out the replacement.  The usual great customer service.  I would suggest contacting their support to get the ball rolling.

I took my Shot Scope Connex out for a spin today for the first time. On course, it was a minimal learning curve, I’d say. Although I’m not sure how to deal with a provisional ball, yet. The other thing I need to figure out is pin placement on the holes. It looks to be defaulting the center of the green.

Tapping my phone for 2-putts is a little awkward. 3-putts is embarrassing. I suppose that’s incentive enough to make sure my first putt goes in.

Can’t wait for the next round.

I'm in the same boat. My first round was rough figuring it all out but eventually got the hang of it. Tagging putts sucks. I can't find a quick and seamless way and it does add a noticeable amount of time. I'm getting close to just tagging my first putt and marking the pin and then fine tuning the putting stats after the round. I think this will work just as well without the undue delays of trying to tag a 3-4 foot putt everytime.

The putting is an issue with every tracking devices I have notice.  There hasn't been a perfect way.  With that been said, with the Watch Band picking up the putter, I wait until am home and then adjust any putt that wasn't capture correctly. It only takes a few mins so doesn't take away from the experience. You can do it on the app on the phone or on the computer. I find the on the computer at times its easier cause you can expand the green more clearly than on the phone, easier to mark the putts.

Same. I don't mind adjusting all my putts after the round. And tagging the first putt and marking the pin aren't that cumbersome.

I’ve found the easy way for me to mark putts is that as I line up my putter behind the ball I tap the watch face. Has now just become part of my putting routine and doesn’t take any extra time

Using Connex makes me wish just a little bit that I had dropped a little more money and invested in the watch instead. Using the cell phone is a little bulky but not terrible. I keep the putter sensor in my pocket and tap my phone against my pocket to mark my first putt.

It’d be nice if tapping the phone with a putter tag the first time locked the app into scanning mode for multiple taps until the I’ve holed out.

FWIW, I usually wear hiking pants with leg pockets. They’re cargo pants, essentially, but the leg pockets are a little more discreet, so I can keep my phone in one and its bulk isn’t uncomfortable.

Putting is really the only thing I don't like but it sounds like its the same for Arcos too. It's just a lot of steps if you try to tag every putt. The last 5-6 holes I played yesterday I just tagged the first putt and then tagged the pin location after I holed out. Adding a second or god forbid third putt wasn't that onerous through the dashboard.

I posted this in another forum on how I edit my putting: I usually pace out the distance of my first putt and record it on my score card. d5b9d7295ee2efc6f0f66a29a0789ce5.jpg
Luckily, my home course uses the Ezlocator system for its pin placement. During the post-round edit, I will verify the pin location and distance.

Just got my connex in the mail!! Excited to play my first round with them Saturday! I’m a big 18Birdies (free version) user and excited to compare the shot tracking features to the connex! BUT I have 2 questions

1) using 18Birdies I keep my phone on me most of the time while on the course, except for when I’m on or around the green. Reading through past posts I expect some clunkiness, but feel I might be okay based on how much I use my phone on the course already. So, what’s the best advice to avoid some of the clunkiness new users feel during their first round?

2) I haven’t decided yet, but thought about playing the front 9 with the connex and then the back with 18Birdies. Thoughts? Is that doable with connex, can I just play 9?

You can play 9 with each, possibly even use both at the same time, but I think you’d be better off with your Shot Scope data from all 18. I use 18 birdies too (free version) and SS works just as well for your GPS needs. As for putting, I think the easiest way to start out is to tag your first putt and then tag the pin location. Then add the other putts online in the dashboard. You do have to keep your putter with you while putting. It’s the only real hassle if you want to call it that.

Thought about using both, just worried about how my battery will hold up and that it’s a lot to keep up with. If the cart’s USB port actually works I might try using both, that is if I want to keep plugging and unplugging my phone. Good to hear the GPS is comparable.

I haven’t used both yet either. Going to try one of these days since I use my watch for 18Birdies information. But my phone gets drained pretty hard with SS as it is.

Question regarding the strokes gained feature. Right now it shows I am -2 and some change against zero handicaps with my approach shots. I read the Q&A regarding strokes gained and may have to read it a couple more times as I am not real savvy on the math and algorithms. My question is whether my strokes gained calculation is based on my own number of shots taken to hole out with my approach shots or does distance hit factor into play. I've had a lot of windy rounds and I'm hitting some shots with 2-3 extra clubs but I usually still make par, even if it does require a chip and putt rather than two putts. Also, because I have to add a lot of my putts and adjust the pin placement on the dashboard, my putting distance isn't super precise. Does a 2 putt par with putts of 30' and 2' get calculated differently than 30' and 5'? I want my stats to be as accurate as possible getting started so I want to make adjustments while this information is still fresh in my head.

Ooooh good question!!!!! I can’t guarantee that I know the answer but have noticed that it does seem to take into account putt distance rather than just number of putts.
You could always drop ShotScope a request and ask them. Their customer service is excellent so I’m pretty sure they’ll give you a definitive answer

It is both the distance and number of shots as well as lie.   You are a distance from the hole which has a strokes gained number; the system calculates how you did for each shot.   It will tell you how you did with each club as well so you can see how you perform with different clubs    I would not worry about hitting extra clubs due to weather.

as for your putting question, i believe it does strokes gained for the 30 footer and the 5 footer.  Your putting stats are also driven by each distance.

Ok. glad I went back and made some adjustments. Went from 63% short to 36% long which seems a lot more accurate. I also found a couple of tee shots that were marked as from the rough because I tagged from the cart parked on the cart path rather than the tee box. I also found a couple of putts marked as the rough even though I was on the green. Not sure how that happened but was able to make those corrections. Just have to be a little more careful when I edit my round each time in the dashboard. Still working on a simpler way to mark my putts but I'm sure I will get that figured out after a few more rounds. Really just want to have a good database to work with before I start testing the Bridgestone balls. Today will be round 4 and I think I can get to 5 or 6 before I start playing the Mindset balls. Wife is starting to give me the eye with all the playing I've done in the last few weeks. I just keep telling her it's sunny and it's all for science. Not sure sure she's buying it, LOL.
