mr.hicksta
Took advantage of the last day of the post-aeration fees ($35) at Kapolei Golf Club, and was disappointed with how sandy the greens were over 3 weeks after aerating. That said, my run of mediocre play continued with a 91 (45/46) with 33 putts. It's crazy how you can be smashing a driver one day and then have no control of it later on in the week. My round was plagued by a variety of crap shots, but I suppose the silver lining of playing golf in Hawaii is nice. As usual, the grind continues and I'm determined to get my game back to the low 80s range! cksurfdude
And I played .. meh... Disappointingly, though the silver lining is almost all of my chipping around the greens was solid. Well, except for that one .. .. where I was behind a big old tree, directly between the ball and the hole, where going left would've left me slightly below the green and on the fringe - and trying to thread the needle with the bunker behind the green - so I went right. Chipped it firmly enough to make sure I got out of the rough and on to the green .. only to watch it continue to roll and roll and .. drop into the small and deep bunker on the frontside of the green.... First attempt - barely out, rolled back down. Second attempt - barely out, hung up in the grass just short of the fringe; so a *fourth* wedge shot to get onto the green..... Popular Post Jmikecpa
Played the annual NY Jets outing today at Trump Bedminster today. First, the tee gift was excellent. Overall had my best ball striking and driving round of the year. Seems that my game is coming around a bit. Hell I split a run up to the green that was 8 yards wide with a 325 yard drive...and I actually meant to do it. The putter was better but not great. Shot of the day was a 3/4 wedge from 128 yards in a crosswind to 8 feet to win these babies. I sent the picture to my wife and she congratulated me on the long drive. I told her it was closest to the pin with a 3/4 wedge. She told me she does not know who I am anymore. I lost the long drive by a yard which would have been a $500 Saks 5th Avenue gift card. She will be having a chat with my instructor to get me back to sheer distance off the tee :)Had a really fun day out and back to reality in the office tomorrow. edingc
Shot 44 (+8) on the front nine before work this morning. Five pars total, which tells the story of my other four holes... Started fantastic, with pars on the first three holes, including the 507-yard par 5 third hole. Epic Flash connected for a 240-yard opening drive smack in the middle of the fairway on the first hole. Not entirely sure what happened, but on the fourth hole I hit a bad approach shot from the side of the green. As I was looking up at where the ball went, I think I pinched a nerve in my neck. Both sides of my neck went numb and had searing pain up into the base of my neck. Needless to say that rattled me a bit, followed the poor approach with a flubbed chip and then just an awful putt from the fringe. Ended up taking a triple bogey. Played really well besides that hole and a three-putt for double bogey on the longer of the two par 3s. Neck is a major bummer because I had previously been fighting a sore shoulder blade muscle and it was finally feeling perfect this morning. And then this happens... MaxEntropy
After tonight, I was half tempted to sell all my golf crap and give it up. Started with 3 pars, then things went sideways - in some cases, literally. +12 in the final 6 holes. I can totally relate to the round @edingc posted about above. Actually, it wasn't that bad. I was trying to implement a slight swing change that I have not had time to practice at the range due to prepping for or daughter's grad party for the last couple weeks. There were some discouraging things, but also a few encouraging things. The worst part was tonight my opponent was one of my best friends. We were tied on the 9th tee. golfertrb
I played at Lincoln Park West (Blue Tees) in OKC today with my son. It was the first round with the Srixon Z Star XV. I won't go too much into the ball performance, as I will be leaving that to my review but I played well. My ball striking was that great initially on the front nine but my putting was just ridiculous - I only took 12 putts per side for a total of 24 putts! On the front side I hit 3 of 7 fairways, 4 of 9 greens with 1 bogey, 2 birdies and 6 pars. On the back I hit 5 of 6 fairways, 7 of 9 greens with 4 birdies and 5 pars for a 5 under 66. I was putting so well today - it was surreal. I hit a few wedges inside of 5 feet and a six iron to 18" but I made a lot of putts outside the range you would normally expect to make and those with a fair amount of break. Just a really great day that I honestly didn't expect considering how I felt on the front nine. It's always great to get out and play with my son - it was a really great day and I am playing tomorrow on the East Course with another one of my sons so I will update this thread tomorrow evening. perseveringgolfer
Played yesterday in a comp and for the first 5 holes drives were long with a small draw, irons were crisp, accurate, small draw and pin high, putting poor as 2.3 putts per hole. However, how can you go from striking the ball like a pro for the first 5 holes to pulls, high push fades, tops and fats???? This game just gives you a glimpse at how good you could be, then kicks you in the teeth and says "get back down to your level" all in the same round. Maybe it's poor concentration, or maybe getting cocky thinking I had this game sussed. Finished 18 then proceeded to book myself in for a tweaking lesson to find out why and hopefully get a workaround. cksurfdude, THEZIPR23, PING Apologist #9 and 5 others 8 Quote Driver Awaiting NEW Driver (after 10 yrs) 4 Wood Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead plus 4+ Callaway shaft in 'Firm' flex Hybrid Titleist 910H 19* Diamana ahina 'flower' shaft in 'S' Irons Mizuno MP18SC 4-PW N.S Pro Modus3 Tour 105 in 'S' Wedges Callaway Mack Daddy forged in black 50* and 54* KBS Tour in 'R' Putter 'YES' Tracy 11 C groove 34.5"

Amen and they only cure is experience. I wrote about this before so I'll be brief but when I was around a 10 index I started a practice round with a friend and birdied #1 with 3 solid shots. Eagled #2 with a pitch in and had never been 3 under let alone after 2 holes. Hit an approach to a long difficult par 4 to a foot and my hands were shaking as I almost missed the putt. Hit a 7 iron to the next par 3 to about 9" and now my hands were shaking so bad I had to back away and then managed to yip it in to go 5 under thru 4 holes. I was soooooo far out of my comfort zone and on the next tee, a par 5 and still shaking, I hit it off the toe almost completely off the clubbed and dribbled it into the creek. Took a drop and topped it in the creek. I am hitting my 5th shot and I am 25yds off the tee. But I had stopped shaking and felt comfortable again. Today with experience going low, I would be happy to be walking off the 4th tee at 5 under. But that would change pretty quickly if birdies continued as I would then be out of my current comfort zone. I had similar once in a club medal, through luck I was 3 under after 4 holes with a couple of tap in birdies, then the 5th was a par 5 and was just off the green after 3 then chipped in, so 4 under after 5. Then it hit home what was happening and I almost tried to steer tee shots and had negative "what if" thoughts on the next few holes, like "what if I shank this approach, what if I thin it and ruin this good run"..........so I of course did nearly that, played so conservatively that bogies came easily. Throw in a couple of doubles from nowhere and a potential PB turned into an average 79. It's definitely a game played predominantly between the ears. cksurfdude, MattF, 00sportsman and 5 others 8 Quote Driver Awaiting NEW Driver (after 10 yrs) 4 Wood Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead plus 4+ Callaway shaft in 'Firm' flex Hybrid Titleist 910H 19* Diamana ahina 'flower' shaft in 'S' Irons Mizuno MP18SC 4-PW N.S Pro Modus3 Tour 105 in 'S' Wedges Callaway Mack Daddy forged in black 50* and 54* KBS Tour in 'R' Putter 'YES' Tracy 11 C groove 34.5"

He birdied, I triple-bogied. You were competing while trying to implement a swing change without practicing it first?? OK, back to 1st grade...
