Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
Wierd round tonight. Drove the ball the best I have all year. Long and straight. Solid approach game and putter. Decent wedge play not great not horrible. Had a 51 but it felt like a 43 or 44. All because two holes that had a combined 5 penalty strokes. One was a par 5 carded an 8. But the last hole I went Tin Cup with 3 balls in the water trying to clear the water hazard on my approach to the green. Ended up with a quad. Oh well. Popular Post Kenny B
My occasional round at Horn Rapids GC in town was moved today to Wine Valley GC in Walla Walla, WA because the guy that sponsors our free golf had a business meeting in Walla Walla. It's 45 minutes from my house. I love Wine Valley, but I swear the guy told me the tee time was 8:30. I got there at 7:40, but our tee time was 8:10!!!!! It wouldn't have been that bad, but during the drive I got a text from AmEX asking if two charges were legit. NO!!! So, while I was try to cart up, I was talking with a rep getting a new credit card. By the time I was done, we had 5 minutes... I rolled 4 putts on the putting green. Did I say that these greens a blisteringly fast and very undulating?? Head to the tee box; took 10 swings with my Skilz Gold Flex, then teed off. This is our game of Wolf. I was 3rd off the tee and I was the Wolf on 3 par 5's and a par 4. Lost one par 5, won 2 par 5's, and pushed on the par 4. It took me nearly the front nine to start playing well. I had four 3-putts on the front nine and one 3-putt on the back. But I had 2 birdies on the back and a 10 footer to snipe the other 3 guys. Once I figured out the green speed, I could see the line a lot better. Shot 46/39 = 85, and beat the other guys who had 86, 87, and 89. I even tipped my hat!! An absolutely beautiful day... Turns out, you still have to put a decent swing on new golf clubs! Who woulda thought? First shot with the 919's was a 6i from 180 from a slightly fluffy lie that I caught out of the toe and it still made it the whole way there. +1 for forgiveness I guess! I wasn't striking it well so the preliminary results are that they're slightly longer in the mid/long irons and the same everywhere else. Makes sense since they're 2* stronger in the 5-7. That was where my 900 Tour distances tended to bunch up, so I'm liking what I'm seeing in these way-too-early stages. Popular Post Kenny B
My wife and I played in a charity scramble today. One of my Wolf buddies put together two teams and we had a sponsor so the tournament was free for us. I only play in charity scrambles if it's a good cause. This tournament was the first annual and it's a wonderful cause. It was too bad that the course was aerated on Monday-Wednesday, but it did keep the scores from being ridiculously low. Putting was tough!! The low score was 60 with a 61 and a 63. There were a bunch of 65's with our team being one of them. We did beat the other team from our sponsor, so we have bragging rights. Didn't play bad, but didn't play great either. Putting is one of my strengths, and the greens were very slow compared to normal. I never got the speed, and thus the line, right all day. However, we had a lot of fun, and I hope to do it again next year. downlowkey, Rickp, MDGolfHacker and 7 others 10 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

ncwoz
My wife walked 9 with me, she was on call so we had to stay close to the apartment. Went to Lincoln Country Club, and it was honestly probably the worst conditions I've ever played in. Called for a tee time and they said "just come in whenever, there's no one out". When I got there, the pro shop was closed and I had to pay at their bowling alley counter. They said they had just sent 2 groups off the front, so they sent me off the back. Then I got out to the back and saw that a kid's group through the Y or something just went off the back... The guy in charge of that just said hey we're gonna be a pain to be behind, just go for the front. Such a weird experience. Played solid enough tho, 42 even though the course was really short. Short game saved my butt, chipping and putting felt great. My driver was really inconsistent, and my ball striking wasn't nearly what it's been on the range lately, so that was a little disappointing but I scrambled well. I missed a 4' birdie putt I'd love to have back, and a 10' eagle putt, other than those 2 the flatstick was going to town. Played decent on the front and then started spraying shots on the back. Needless to say, that didn’t help. My index keeps creeping up, which is discouraging, but that’s what I get for playing crappy golf. You had a couple bad breaks. edingc
- 46 (+10) / 45 ESC - 1/7 FIR - 1/9 GIR - 16 Putts (1 3-putt, 5 2-putts, 3 1-putts) Played some of my best golf of the year for the first three holes and then the wheels kind of fell off. Blow-up hole came on No. 4. A 10-some (not kidding...) let me play through and I promptly topped my 3 wood into the weeds. Kind of rattled me a bit and ended up really struggling with my swing for the rest of the round. Shame. As I said above, the first three holes were some of my best golf of the year. Ended up hitting two long par putts to save the round somewhat on No. 8 and No. 9. Remove the blow-up hole and I'd be totally OK with the round.
