Kentwool19th Hole Collection Review

Introduction

If you read my review of Kentwool's golf socks, you know I'm a fan. Whether you're walking 18 or 36, they keep your feet comfortable, dry, cushioned, and blister-free. They're the only socks I wear on the course.

Now Kentwool has their sights set on taking over the rest of my sock drawer with the introduction of their 19th Hole Collection. With an initial offering of 7 striped patterns, 3 argyles, and 3 solids, there's a 19th Hole sock for every occasion. The big question is: are they worth the coin?

Quality & Value

Let's get right to the heart of it: these socks are fantastic, but they aren't cheap. At $28 per pair, they may cost more than your greens fee. Some of you are probably shaking your heads and getting ready to move to another thread, and that's cool, these are definitely not for everyone. There are some guys (like the author of this review) who don't want to spend a lot on their basics, and that's cool. But please don't walk away from this review thinking that these socks are identical to the ones you buy in bulk packs at Costco...they're not.

Difference #1

Kentwool socks are thick where they should be, but only where they should be (there's probably a joke there...I'll leave that one for you to fill in). This means that the sole and heel have extra padding to keep your feet comfortable, but they're not oppressively warm.

Difference #2

Building off that point about not being oppressively warm: the high quality Merino wool keep your feet warm, but the socks also breathe, so you don't get swamp foot (second cousin of swamp @$).

Difference #3

Crappy elastic is probably the #1 most annoying thing about cheap dress socks, and that is NOT an issue with the Kentwools. They will stay exactly where you put them until you move them. It's a good thing.

Conclusion

So, for me, it comes down to this:

If I had to choose between having Kentwool socks on the course or in the boardroom, I'd probably opt for the course simply because I do more walking there. But, if money were no object, I'd throw out every pair of socks I own that aren't Kentwool and I'd have them deliver a truckload.

The 19th Hole Collection are not superior to other socks in terms of function, but they also offer more style.

They look great - comfortable socks are a must - and anything Merino is good value in my book (though, full disclosure, being from NZ ...read, way more sheep than people..., I'm a little biased).

On another note, those are some good lookin feet you've got there Matt

It is dangerous to mention wool around a Kiwi. Be scared, be very very scared. unsure.gif

Interesting review Matt.

My wife and I were in NZ last summer and we LOVED it. Undoubtedly the most beautiful place I've been there. And the sheep...my god there are lots of them!
