    How'd you play?

I FINALLY got out to the course today after a couple MONTHS!!! I didn’t keep score, just popped it around for 18. I hit about 6 REALLY good shots because the swing is all over the place. It was nice to get out there again! Hoping to get back at playing consistently here in the next month or two!

    How'd you play?

81 with a double on each side. Not bad considering I am only playing once a month. Lipped out at least 3 putts and a chip in that hit the stick, dropped in and then lipped out somehow. The Rogue ST Max LS (really need a shorter name for this) was absolutely a weapon.

  3. No, we still have our role. I would assume/like to believe it is simply evolving and am hopeful once their full plan/idea for how they are changing forum testing we will be back to a greater role. Keep in mind this is essentially a volunteer position and at the core we do this for you the membership and wanting to create/grow the experience here. Or at least that is my view. Regardless of HQ directive I will be here for the forum and the membership and do whatever i can to be transparent, open and bring new features to the forum which will aid in everyones experience!

  4. Went out yesterday morning and played fairly well for the first 10 holes, I was +2 and had just birdied 10. Then the wheels came off. I went 39-42. But I was spraying the ball all over the place for the end of the round, and I only hit 3 greens on the day. Just one of those days I guess as 81 still isn't a bad score, just know I'm capable of more. I did have my best putting day with only 28, but that's what happens when you don't hit greens. BTW last week I was complaining about crowned cups on every hole and had a discussion with some of you on that topic. I played the same course again this week, and they cups were in good shape and didn't have that issue. I knocked in several putts in the 6-8 foot range without having to worry about it.

    How'd you play?

Played this past Friday. Still apparent that I need a lot of work of my driver. It simply cost me too many strokes and I'm scrambling for bogey quickly. Also, chipping could use some work, not awful, but not doing me any favors either. Not too worried about that one, I just need to have some greenside practice, which I have not done at all this year. Score - 79 Fairways - 2 (both were not with driver, Ouch!) Greens - 10 Putts 33

    How'd you play?

Well I had a learning weekend for sure, frustrated but I am learning. I had two great starts to my rounds this weekend. I was 37 on the front, then really fell off the back to shoot 79. Then I had my best start ever of birdie birdie par par, then I got nervous trying to save it and finished at 40. I was really frustrated yesterday when I blew my 2 under start, mentally I go into protection mode and start trying to guide the ball instead of releasing the club. I talked to my pro afterwards frustrated, and he laughed because of two things, one some of my thought process on the bad holes. Also, because these are my comfortable scores, and he said I have to learn to get comfortable at being better. I was not comfortable I was so nervous. My driver is really killing me, the toe strikes just put me in bad spots and put a ton of pressure on my approach game, it may be on the chopping block soon. My short game has really improved, and I watched some old Brad Faxon videos and my putting was on fire this weekend. Best putting in a long time. Going to try and hit the range this evening if the heat will let up. Saturday Sunday Score 79 40 FIR 6/14 1/7 GIR 5/18 2 PUTTS 30 13

    How'd you play?

I have managed to get out a couple of times in the last week and I am feeling good about my game. The funny thing is I was 15 over par on Saturday but it felt like 5 over. The course was set up as long as it gets and with the pins as hard as they get on a cold windy day. It was a brutal test and apart from some terrible putting I was happy about how the game went.

  10. Was not added to the BETA chat. Is there a way to standardize the equipment name/review title? Feel like this is going to get very clustered quickly. Maybe something like specific points? I can see folks putting "Titleist TS2 with Ventus blue 6x" or something like that when realy it should just be "Titleist TS2". Should really control the naming.

    How'd you play?

2 Rounds this weekend. I played the senior tees with a couple of friends Saturday evening. It was fun adjusting to the different angles for the drives and approach shots. I spent a lot of time saying things like "I can take on that corner from here" or "that tree cuts off the line I would take from the regular tees". Had fun, shot 74 (+2) Played the regular tees on Sunday morning- the driver was giving me trouble today. Not too bad, but I'll have to give it a talking to on the range to get it back in line. Irons and putter were okay.. things are getting closer with the swing change I made earlier this year and I'm getting used to the distances. Stats: 11 pars, 1 bogey, 3 doubles (crap), 3 birdies (yay), 1 lost ball, 1 bet won, 3 bets tied (crap), 76 strokes. Looking forward to some evening golf for the next couple of weeks- I always try to take advantage of the extra sun, the days will be getting shorter very soon.

    How'd you play?

Got out on Saturday with my Dad again for another fun round. The front 9 was a total mess. I hit 2 drives into a punch out spot, and missed every single green. It was not pretty. Managed only 1 up and down, and had a penalty on the lone 5 leading to another bogey. It was the first really tough nine. Ended up shooting a 43, highest of the year by far. I resolved to come back on the back 9 and keep the round together. I did just that, hag a great short sided save on 10, then made 4 more straight pars but only hitting 2 greens. Unfortunately 2 bad drives on 16 and 17 led to two bogies. Got a lucky bounce on the 18th when I was going way right and was able to save a par for a nice round 80. Was happy to have kept the back together at 37, but really need to work on the irons. I just missed was too many greens. Thinking for the next round I am going irons only. Irons off the tee and from the fairway to get a better idea of what is going on. Just think the face control is lacking going left and right, though more left currently. Need to figure it out. Hitting 4 out of 18 greens is not going to cut it and really that kind of performance can happen any round, especially if the driver is not getting me a wedge or less in lately. Time to grind on this.

Owen and I played Tanna Farms in Geneva yesterday with our buddy Paul. He was so close to hanging it up at the end of last season so we were very happy he came out with us. I played there once last year and was terrible and Paul had never been there before. Beautiful course. First, the good news. Paul started okay then started mis hitting everything and looked close to packing it in. Owen and I started working on him (Owen giving him pointers and me mostly affirming and talking him up) and he bounced back with a par and several great iron shots and a solid drive. Short story on Paul is that he used to be pretty good and a big hitter but someone offhandedly mentioned that his swing was ugly. That got into Paul's head and he spiraled from there. Anyway, Paul looks encouraged and we're all going to try for a range session soon. Owen played okay but really put his game on the back burner to work with Paul. I'm very proud of what he's becoming. Now, the... also good news. I broke 90 for the first time. The whole "swing easy" idea really took hold this time and other than one wayward drive I was really good off the tee. Long clubs were good with only one ugly chunk. Even used a hybrid to putt from off a long green to just a few feet from the pin. Irons were good and I even hit my PW off a tee to three feet to the pin. Coming right to left it just missed the ace. My one birdie of the day. Added four pars, two doubles and a triple. Went 45/42 for 87 (+16). Shot of the day was probably drive on 16 where I talked Paul into switching drivers and we both hit long and straight.

  21. Alright, my picks are in everyone can stop entering now! (only way I am going to pull this off) Good luck all! Was really hoping to get tickets to go to the open (applied back in October through military channels and got nada). I actually did a project there for school a few years back and interviewed the head of facilities there. That place is amazing (OLDDDDDDD Money for sure), I even brought my clubs hoping he would pull the old (oh yea go ahead and get a round in)....nope!

  22. A short while ago I traded a club that I wasn't using for a really good condition 2019+ PM grind wedge. It was 58°/12°. I absolutely fell in love with it's versatility and how fun it was around the greens. But my inner crazy voice kept telling me that a 60° would be even more exciting.. well being a sucker for black clubs, I found this baby in nearly minty fresh condition listed for $80 on Offer up. Offer Up is like crack to a golf tinkerer and I'm admittedly a junkie. So in order to score my next fix, I had to make a hustle for some quick cash. I posted my 58° PM For $70, and within 24 hours, I was offered $65 which I accepted.. in the same trip to sell my club, I took the cash and met up with the guy selling this club, offered $70 and now I'm the owner of a nearly new condition PM grind 60° for $5 Sold this.. To buy this.. While this whole transition might sound a little absurd.. it's how most of my purchases are transacted.. and how a tinkering, OCD, golf nerd's brain functions. I don't recommend this path as it certainly is not convenient and comes with quite a bit of anxiety attached

    How'd you play?

So no sooner than 1 day after I made this post, I'm playing with my dad at a course that we really like just this past Friday. Dobson Ranch. It's a packed day so we're all waiting. The group behind us is pushing us all day but we were not gonna be rushed or bullied so we all agree to not let them get in our heads and just play at a normal pace. These guys were all loud and just excessively foul characters. A number of times we saw them throwing clubs and hitting the carts with their clubs. On a par 3, we finish and get in our carts and before we even have a chance to drive away drive away, a ball hits the fender of the cart my dad and I are in and on his side. No "FORE", no "Sorry about that", definitely no drive up apologies.. and all we heard were a bunch of chuckles from the $hitheads behind us. Not to mention it flew right over the shoulder of one of our other playing partners. In the moment I REALLY had to compose myself, take about 15 deep breaths, and drive away while formulating my next move. I knew that if I had approached them in that moment, there would be no conversation and at least 3 people were leaving in an ambulance.. the 2 guys that I put down and probably me after the other 2 in their group hit me with a club. The best thing that I could think to do was flag down the course Marshall and let him handle it. I even told him that I wanted him to handle it or else there would be blood and broken bones, police, and handcuffs. He was appreciative of that. I too am very non confrontational. But will NOT be pushed around in any shape or form under any circumstance and when the potential safety of my family is threatened.. you better believe there's a green monster deep down inside that nobody wants to see.

Got in a pretty solid practice round today. I hit the ball well with only two bogies. The first one was on the second hole. This hole is a killer. First shot is 200 yards to center of the fairway and centered on the sharp dog leg left. Your now at the 150 yard marker but its three extra clubs uphill and guarded by two huge bunkers in the front with 2 yards between them. The green slopes from back to front. You don't want to be past the pin or be short. I wound up 6 feet past the pin. I missed the putt and now off the green. Coming back 12 feet It sat on the edge. Three putt. The other was on straight away hilly par 4. The tee shot starts from higher ground. Then it goes down hillI, then up, then down, then up to the green. I put my second shot up in the greenside trap and the sand was hard as a rock. The club bounced off the hard pan and wound up 25 feet past the pin. Missed that putt but had a tap in. I wish they would fix the traps. I wound up 2 over for the round. I'm fine with that. After the round I hit the range to sharpen the 6 iron, 5 hybrid, and 7 wood. I wanted to make sure I had them gapped correctly and knew their distances. Big round next week.

Three nines over the past three days -> 39, 38, 41. Bad three-putt on No. 9 on the 39, and two lipped putts on the 41. Couple of birdies mixed in with a few double bogeys. I continue to kill my rounds with poor tee play, though it has gotten a little better it seems. Anxiously waiting for my lesson Wednesday as my full swing has generally been really poor. My short game and putting are just saving me right now. It feels like I'm making more putts and converting more up-and-downs than ever before. Back out this week for my first 18s in a few weeks. Hoping my scoring consistency continues.

39-39: 78 (+7, net -2) 6/13 FIR, 11/18 GIR, 33 putts Had another really solid round this afternoon, was maybe my best all around 18 holes. Even with an unfortunate bounce that led to a triple on the front and a silly double on the back, I was able to knock it around really well. On top of that, there was a big money game that morning with most pins in tough spots, which makes me feel even better about the round. My buddy and I had back to back par 3's where he hit it to 3 feet, then I hit it to 3 feet on the next one. Definitely the highlight of the day! Was largely able to avoid trouble off the tee again, which is helpful to play well. Go figure haha. Was a really good time with a good friend who's visiting from out of town on top of it all, so a pretty near perfect day for this lucky guy!

  32. Just watched the interview with Monahan today at the RBC. He's leaning WAY heavily on the 9/11 event. I don't see this as a sign of confidence but rather broad brush smearing campaign. I honestly think Jay would like a couple of his cards back in his hand.

  34. ... I think I can honestly say not a single club in my bag is giving me hell. My bag is in very good shape at the moment. I on the other hand, can give hell to any club. Last several rounds I have topped a 5 wood, thinned a 4 iron, hit a LW fat only covering 30 of the 60yds to the pin, flew a 7 iron out of light rough over the green and hooked a hybrid into a bush necessitating a drop. As much as I would love to claim otherwise, none of the above were the fault of any of my clubs.

  35. Finished my Sunday chores and the wife was gone, so I figured I should get up to the range. Today marked two weeks since my last range session (due to work stuff). For someone who usually hits the practice facility 4-5 times each week it was quite the drought! Think I was able to figure out some things, too. I had been getting a little disconnected in my backswing with my arms getting stuck behind me. I have been hitting weak fades or overdraws, both I believe results of my having to time my downswing just perfectly. Focused on really staying connected in my backswing and also feeling very centered in my turn. Seemed to make a big difference. There is an AJGA qualifier tomorrow at the course so there were a couple juniors out practicing and just mashing the ball. Happy to say I was able to keep up with them for a little while at least... to be that young again. Incredible power. Lesson Wednesday. Fingers crossed there isn't too much more for me to work on. I was really pleased with my ball flight once I got the right-arm connection figured out.

    The Still Aceless Thread

... Trust me on this, if the Golf Gods want to play with you like some sort of toy, how you hit the ball doesn't enter into it. I hit a high ball that rolls just a little on the hard fast desert greens but also can back up when greens are soft or pretty much just sit where it lands. I hit low knockdowns into the wind and have bounced the ball off the flagstick. And I have dunked a shot and it came right back out of the hole sitting a few inches away while the Golf Gods evidently nursing fresh bags of popcorn high 5'ed and had a good laugh. In the meantime I watched my cousin that has never broken 100 top a 5 wood down a hill, hop over a creek and then roll on the green and into the cup.

    Maxfli Tour

With Snell limiting purchases, I decided to try a few other balls out. I tried out Srixon XV and Bridgestone RB. Both balls performed well for my game...I did like the Bridgestone better off the tee. I had plans to try the Srixon XV Diamond, but I decided to give the Maxfli a go first. Went with the Tour X as it was likely closer to the Snell MTB-X that I've been playing for the last 3 years. Maxfli Tour X is my new gamer. I like everything about this ball. For my swing, the ball fit me well....flight is good, distance off the tee and irons is good, spin is great off both irons and wedges. The lower price over similar balls is an added bonus.

  41. Rather than waiting I'll share what I know and am aware of. JS can add to it later or if he gets a chance to. There has been a shift in how tests this season are provided and promoted this year by HQ. Where in previous years mods (meaning Rob) would be on the hunt and provide tests for the community. This is no longer the case and all testing opportunities come directly from HQ. We as a mod team have been assigned to run and manage them, but asked to leave the sourcing of them to HQ. We have been told to expect in the neighborhood of 20 testing opportunities for 2022. To date we have had 5 with one more scheduled June 17th. It has been admittedly a slower start to the season, but the communication to us from HQ has been that OEM's are more interested in Q2/Q3 slots and therefore June and July could still be slower with August/September/October being a lot fuller. Supply hasn't been as much of a issue as we have been told so far. It is more the desire to wait till later in the season for one reason or another. The other part of the equation is most our opportunities so far have been from advertisers of the main site. As per the blog they do not advertise with any of the major OEM: https://mygolfspy.com/advertise/ and testing opportunities for the membership are part of the package. Therefore we should see companies like EVNROL, motocaddy and others who have been advertisers on the blog in previous years. Although we do have a testing schedule with whats to come and what weeks products are placed in for typical seasons. With the shift this year we still have one, but again it is light as of right now. We have been told that as soon as any new tests are scheduled or known they will be posted for us to see so we can get started on our work with them. Unfortunately we cannot say what testing items are before the scheduled date we are able to make a calendar on the forum in which we can post when tests are about to be announced, when reviews are due to be posted and other news for dates if that is of interest to the community? I apologize I cannot share more, however I can only share what I know and at the moment that is all I know and am aware of. I hope that JS can further add to this conversation again as he is our Community Manager and the direct contect to HQ for the forum. Finally a big shout out to @Golfspy_CG2 for all the work he has done for the forum over the years providing tests and this season getting the Major Pools up for us as well as sourcing the prizes. He has been intergral to the community and done so much for us still in his semi retired role.
