  2. Good morning one and all.raining here in the home of the Manatee. House is guiet as she who lords the roost is still in slumber mode.Aussie open on as I can start from beginning with you be TV. 43-34 yesterday, how can you do that! The Game will humble you. 88yr old in our group canceled saying he was over traveled. Day trip to St Pete and seeing 4yr old grandson took too much out of him. He doesn't need an excuse lovely man. This may seem strange but being down here for 13yrs I have at times wished for that break that we would get in winter to recharge the forces within and out. Fortunately that thought goes away quickly as check weather in Boston and Detroit. At it again 8:20 in the morning with good guys from NYC,CT,NJ,NH,MI and upstate NY all thrown together in search of warmth and the greatest game ever played. Be Well everyone.

  3. Good morning everyone on this last day of a long holiday weekend! I'm just waking up and sipping on some coffee while the dogs are running around happy that someone is up. There's a chance of rain today so it's going to be a day for indoor activities and grocery shopping. I have to fix a shelf in my sister-in-law's closet, but after assembling a griddle yesterday that should be a piece of cake. I hope y'all have a wonderful Sunday!

  5. Good morning everyone. It’s been a very restful week with just enough golf and plenty of time with family and friends. Can’t say I’m ever excited to go to work but definitely feel rested up and ready to get back at it. Hope everyone has a restful Sunday!

  6. Good morning MGSpies from the end of the Thanksgiving Weekend Sunday already here. Son's birthday dinner last night had an ideal table overlooking Lake Erie from the cozy comfort of warm surroundings and people, good food and drink, and endless flow of good conversation. Dessert was at the in-laws condo for pie, cake and coffee and nephew UT student made a surprise visit, home for what appeared an urgent chronic heart issue that turned out to be just a viral thing shared the party sounding ready to return to Salt Lake for his last week of classes and exams, he also reported his mom was well recovered after her first COVID illness upended all family Thanksgiving plans as the big dinner was planned for her house, you might remember in GMT posts over previous days and week. Sun is shining, tea is hot, frost not off the vehicles yet, and house on the peaceful side looking forward to what today brings, and hope golf is a part of your day!

  7. Good morning Spies on a blustery Sunday here. Last day of the long holiday weekend, and the day before the Cyber Monday sales. Hopefully, those who needed to do some shopping were able to find good pricing on what they may have needed to purchase, even if it wasn't golf related. Will be a quiet fay here, although I hope to have time to check out a couple if indoor golf places today, and make a decision on which one to participate in a winter league in. Make your day the best it possibly can be, no matter what may be in your plans.

  8. YO,Yo,yo Sunday my friends… Tee time in a little over 2 hours from now. Have had some nice idiots luck so far on this impromptu trip. Found a nice rental house with pool within 8 miles of all four courses that I will be playing. There does seem to be a golf course on every street intersection, so finding courses close to where we are staying wasn’t that great a challenge or such a brilliant effort. I have suggested to the “ Countess of Consumption “ that while I play golf, that she cannot combine being a tourist with shopping. Trying to convince her that all the Alligators and Pythons she might encounter on the near by nature trail are NOT there to be chosen as bag or shoe options. Attempting not to tempt Karma by endangering any other living creature other than myself. Not sure who I will be paired with today, in case it is a Canadian, I plan on dropping @Jim Shaw name to see what happens. Sunday is a combination day of rest, refreshment, reflection, and finishing up the weekend’s fun activities. Make it your own my friends.

  10. Another earlier morning and after getting caught up trying to find more deals for the forum taking a bit of a break. Had my coffee and about to head into work. We have a few exciting things coming to the Forum very soon. One is a bit of a surprise, the other will be an update to all the badges we have on the forum. Who knows maybe if I get the energy I will be able to get to that today. That along with some some pretty big updates to the main platform coming it is a very exciting time for us on the Forum. Hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend to date and has a wonderful Sunday! All my fantasy teams have lost this week so that is a wash, however I should be good for playoffs in 2 of my 3 leagues.

  11. Whoa…. Where did today get to?? Friday was spent with the bargain hunting bride. Evidently, there is a chapter of the capricious consuming capitalist Secret Society of Spending Spouses almost everywhere in the USA. Wife met up with some like minded members of the local coven to celebrate the high holy day of Black Friday.. I went along as a dutiful beast of burden. We went to some mega temple of spending that had 140 outlet options… Not only did we go into seemingly every store option, when finished, she who spends, bemoaned the fact of only having that “ few” store options. So, the wife person decided that once again we would enter the shopping breech and visit every store again. I spend all Friday night liberating catalytic converters to fund the purchases. I had to sell plasma before teeing off this morning just to get green fees. Enjoyed the round, the fairways were lush and more receptive than some greens that I have played at home and at other courses. Didn’t totally embarrass myself, but still “ boat raced “ my handicap. One final note for the night… So, @Jim Shaw are you sure central gulf coast Florida isn’t part of Canada ? The Canadian flag is almost as prevalent as the flag of the USA around here. Another round of golf in on for morning to look forward to. The “Empress of Economic Stimulus” is soaking her hand and wrist in ice water, she believes that her wrist is sprained from so much credit card swiping, tapping, and iPhone app payment usage. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday, my friends.

  13. Good morning Spies, Happy Sunday. Two cuppas down and errands run. It will be a relaxing Sunday. May get a bike ride in or may not. My wife and I went up to Lake Ontario yesterday. Explored an art sale where a friend of ours had her pottery on sale. Nothing struck us but we did commission a bowl with built in chopsticks holder. Can’t wait to enjoy some udon out if it. The view from Ft. Ontario. Wishing all a wonderful day!

  17. Final day of my work weekend, and it can't go by fast enough! Already have a round scheduled for Tuesday, going to use that to play out the rest of the Titleist Test balls. Then it's off to a new Indoor range locally that just opened up on Wednesday! Raining here, so it's keeping misfit wannabees low key so far.

  18. Good morning and happy Sunday spies! I awoke earlier than needed so that I could prepare breakfast before I watch the final round of the F1 season. Went to let the dogs out and was greeted by a couple inches of the white stuff all over my yard. I knew it was coming but it doesn’t mean that I have to like it. At least it will only last a few days before it all melts off. Hope that everyone has a great day!

  19. Good Morning everyone! Another cold start of the day at 22º this morning with freezing fog until 11am. Our course opened yesterday at 11:30; I doubt they will be open today, maybe after noon. Cold continues until Friday when we get a few showers. Great!! Rain and the ground is nearly frozen so it doesn't soak in very fast. Just resting up today after coffee and my exercises. Stay safe and warm and play well if you get the chance!

  20. Hello MGS family! My name is Rolly and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have been golfing on and off for over 32 years. I am 53 years old and have been consistently playing golf 1-2 times a week for the past 10 years now. My current index is 8.8. The strongest part of my game is putting. The weakest part of my game is everything else, LMAO! What saves my scores is that I scramble good around the green. I need to be better off the tee to allow me to make GIRs but hey, it’s a work in progress like the majority of us. This is my FIRST EVER to be a tester. I am very excited to provide my in put regarding the Titleist Test Ball. I do not have access to any launch monitors but was able to obtain some data via the local Golfmart store that I went to. Thank you MGS & Titleist for this opportunity! I hope to get a passing grade in order to be eligible to test more products Here is what is currently in my bag (all clubs have stiff flex): Woods: PXG 0811 X Gen 4 Driver PXG 0311 XF Gen 5 3 wood PXG 0317 X Gen 4 3 HY PXG 0317 XF Gen 4 4 HY PXG 0317 X Gen 4 5 HY Irons: Sub 70 699 6-AW Wedges: PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy 56 PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy 60 Putter: Pyramid blade FIRST IMPRESSIONS Just like someone mention in the very beginning of the testing is that it was pretty funny to have a white box within another white box. Now I have been normally playing the PXG ball. I play the PXG ball because of the discounts they provide to first responders, lol! I love playing PROV1s but as we all know they can be expensive. The dimple patterns are definitely different between the two balls (hex vs circle). Aesthetically, I do not mind whether they are hex vs circle dimples. I like the alignment style for the TEST ball. I also like the style of alignment on the PXG. I think every ball should have an alignment on the ball with us having to do it ourselves. Call me lazy I first started by putting the balls at home. Putting at 8’, I did not feel like I had to putt any harder for the test ball. My stroke (aside from human error) was the same for each ball. The Test ball is definitely a softer ball compared to the PXG. I believe the consensus was the same across the board about the test ball being a soft ball. I took a couple of videos regarding the putting but for some reason I am unable to load them. I have shortened the videos down to 31MB but they still are not uploading. Anyways, the videos were straight forward. PXG ball and Test ball putted just fine. The test ball is definitely feels and sounds softer off the face of my putter. The Pyramid putter does not have a facial insert. Only has milled grooves on the face. SOME SIMULATOR COMPARISONS Now, I was able to go to the local Golfmart store to utilize their tracking system for a little bit. The crazy part is that I appeared to hit the ball longer (Driver & 4HY) on the simulator with the Test ball compared to PXG. Here is just the yardage data with my 4HY Maybe I can contribute to the longer overall distance because the test ball rolls out more than the PXG. ON COURSE So, I played the first 9 holes with my PXG ball and the last 9 holes with the Test ball. I shot 44 in the front and 42 in the back. I normally play better on the back 9 than the front so not sure how much of the lower score was from the Test ball or just part of my normal game, lol! I did have two 3-putts on the back 9. Probably because the test ball did not “stick” and rolled out at least 5 feet from when the ball hit the green. You can see the distance of roll by the pics I have attached below. The one pic I remembered to take with my PXG, you can see how it did not roll out like the Test ball My experience is that I was longer off the tee with my driver when I used my PXG ball. The Test ball was decent but for some reason I hit more fades with the Test ball versus PXG ball. Maybe I was getting tired and not following through? I didn’t experience a “straighter ball” like others were stating but I am sure that is all because of my swing Titleist Test Ball Cosmetics of the Test ball. Just like everyone else has reported, the cover of the ball was NOT durable. After 4 holes, it already has scuffed up and saw the weird “grey” line that someone else had mentioned. The scuffing occurred during my approach shots with my wedges. Above the “ei” is where you can see the grey line. That would not come off. Thought it was a little weird. CONCLUSION I will probably stick with my PXG ball for now BUT will try other balls to determine which would be a better game ball for me if any. It is so amazing how the little things can affect our golf game. I need to make sure I have the right gear and not just because I get a discount Anyways, thank you all who took the time to read through my review.

  23. Curious for all those out there if your partner, better half, significant other or however else you would like to describe them golfs? Is it something you like to do together? Are they a 9 hole player? Or mini golfer? Only go to the range? Or as mine, has an interest in maybe playing but just doesn't? Alternatively do they not golf, have no interest in golfing and wonder why you spend so much time obsessing over the game? If the last one is the case, do you wish they would golf? Do you think it is something they would enjoy if they gave it a try or just not their cup of tea?

  25. Back in the late 1990's we joined a country club so I could play golf and we could meet new people that weren't associated where we both worked. Before that, my wife would play once or twice a year when work required it. A condition of us joining is that I could only give golf advice if asked (which I agreed to). She took lessons and we played together once or twice a month at the nine-hole Friday night scotch social tournaments. I would typically play on Saturdays, but she never had the desire to invest four hours playing golf on a regular basis. If we visited friends who played golf, she would play 18 for the social aspect of the game. On weekend we were running errands and she wanted to go to a local driving range and golf retail store. I looked at her a little shocked as we had a driving range at the club. Once inside, she went searching for a new driver! In the used bins she found a senior men's Great Big Bertha driver (at that point it had only been out a few years). She took it out on the range and ended up buying it. When we returned to the car, I looked at her and said "now you know how it feels!" She never questioned a purchase one of my golf club purchases again. When we quit the country club (turns out that we didn't necessarily like the new people we met), she drifted away from golf. Fast forward too many years and now we each find ways of better using the time that I play golf. I play early mornings. She goes to the beach with her friends and yard sales. In the end, we both get to do what we each like and then join back up together for lunch. That's the true definition of a win-win!

  26. Yes, my wife plays golf .... but not with the same level of passion for the game (and nowhere near as frequently) as I do. When we went to England and Scotland last summer, I played four Open Championship courses from the 6,200 - 6,500 yard tees. She did not play at all, and went sightseeing while I was playing golf. We would have gone to the 150th Open Championship together on Saturday and Sunday, but I got COVID on Friday evening. We did, however, walk about ten miles in Edinburgh on Saturday and Sunday and then we took a train to London (no golf). When we go to Myrtle Beach together, I play every day (often 36 holes); my wife will play 18 holes a day for two days and then take a day off from playing golf on those trips, playing maybe 4 rounds of golf over the course of a week, while I play at least 8 or 9 rounds. We also play golf together around where I live - maybe 6 to 10 times a year, sometimes only 9 holes and other times a full 18. She also occasionally plays golf with a few of her lady friends, when she can find the time (she does volunteer work and works part-time for the state Department of Health, Div. of Aging, so she doesn't have as much time available to play golf as I do).

  28. Good evening: So far my testing is comparative to the others. I feel the ball is similar if not identical to the AVX. I have been putting chipping and trying to get some good spin data to present as well. I will have more to post next week and hope to have more pictures and videos. It has been a great test so far and this page has been so active I really enjoy participating with everyone on this and sharing information for everyone.

  29. I normally play the AVX. When I played these balls side-by-side, I couldn’t see any real world difference in them. However, the Test Ball felt softer off the putter. I loved the feel of this ball and the performance was a few feet either way. My strike could account for the difference. I could definitely see and feel a difference in the performance between the Test ball and the ProV1, ProV1x, and the left dash ProV1X, but as I said, this felt like perhaps a new version of the AVX. One thing I absolutely loved about this, aside from the feel off the putter, was the durability of this ball. The ball on the left has been played for 45 holes. Granted I didn’t bang it off trees or down cart paths, but I took this picture and then played another 18 holes and it still looked fine. Sadly, it doesn’t float any better than any other ball. All-in-all, I like this ball a lot.

  30. This is a fantastic description! I experience the same, although I am outside of the IDDx/IDDy norms. You are able to take a swing and then see the data immediately. You can usually see the parallel between quality of strike and the data. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. Mine has an interest, but has only played a couple times with me through the years. She will watch it on TV, and goes along with me at time, knowing that the course doesn't allow walking. She likes to see the beauty of nature, and the layout of the courses. She will also tag along if I go to practice, to sometimes video what I may be working on, or to comment on what she sees both good and not so good. We also have other common shared interests, and also do our own things individually. One major reason she doesn't play at this time is because she had a poor experience while playing before we met, where someone was critical of her and the other women she was playing with at the time for being poor players and too slow. She doesn't want that to happen again.

  35. It’s been dry here until this past week, so it’s been more like “summer” conditions in terms of turf interaction. Hence I am seeing no real difference in performance. With the recent rains I am looking to get out and see how they work in soft, sticky turf. Of course @Nunfa0 is doing the opposite as his summer is just getting ready to crank up.

  37. Very true. Getting fitted for a golf ball can make a significant difference to your game with respect to distance, spin, etc. Unfortunately, most fitters no longer offer the service. So where does one go. Best place to start is to look at the MyGolfSpy data 2023 Golf Ball Test | MyGolfSpy or Best Golf Balls of 2023: Expert Tested & Data-Backed | MyGolfSpy to help narrow the field. Most of the fitters I’ve talked to recommend the Ping Ballnamic site (ballfitting.com) For best results, have your 7 iron and driver launch monitor data (launch, spin, etc) and the ball you used for the test. Downside, its $39, but it does cover 5 fittings for a year. It will give you 5 ball recommendations depending on your preference for performance only or performance and price. The data base does not include all balls, but is fairly comprehensive, i.e. essentially all 3 piece construction or greater urethane balls greater than $20/dozen. I can confirm that upon actual testing, the recommendations are pretty spot on.

I put my thermometer between the point and flat. Once the temp gets near 200F I start probing the flat. When the probe goes in and out like butter, it's done. Then I put it in a cooler to rest for 2 hours. It looks okay to me? Cutting board is obviously wet and the smoke ring looks great.

  42. Many of you know my wife plays golf and have heard this before, so here's the short version... My wife started playing golf in 1963. Her whole family played; 5 older brothers, older sister, mom and dad. Her dad was club champion at 3 country clubs; Spokane CC, Manito CC and Hayden Lake, ID. She played PowerBilt persimmon woods and blades (still has them) until I met her in 2002 at our local dog track 9-hole course. She played with us guys and we shamed her into a set of new Cobras. We dated and on April 1, 2006, I proposed to her on the 1st tee. Yes, she asked if I meant it on April 2. A year later we got married on the same 1st tee and have been traveling and playing golf ever since. She plays much more these days than I do (she's 9 years younger). She plays when it's cold and windy; I try not to!! She has been our club's Ladies Match Play Champion the last two years and missed out as Club Champion by one shot twice. Her lowest score is 82 at our course and usually breaks 90. I will say that she has only beaten me a handful of times over the years when she plays very well and I have one of those sucky days.

  43. My wife doesn’t golf. She has had great lessons when she started, a decent swing and nice set of 10+ year old Callaway clubs. But she has zero desire to spend 4.5 hours on the course. Not sure she will ever take it up again. She does roll her eyes when a box with obvious golf branding shows up on our door step every 2-3 weeks. Fortunately, she has not referred me to some golf addiction counselling clinic…

  44. There is definitely a lot of data to digest, but the app does a nice job highlighting specific metrics with transition, tempo, and backswing length. I think what I am finding the most impactful right now as the majority of my swings fall within range of those is the IDDx/IDDy and Steepening/Shallowing data. On bad strikes or if I am out of range in transition, I am seeing those numbers reflect getting more steep than I should and the plane numbers off. Will be posting some more screenshots from a recent session tomorrow.

  46. My wife has expressed interest in golf and we bought her some new to her clubs and she has hit them a few times. It is challenging to both go with 2 younger kids. I think she enjoys going to ride in the cart with me more than actually wanting to learn to play.

  47. My wife has jokingly mentioned taking up the game this past year after hitting a few shots at the scramble we organize and doing pretty well. I researched women's clubs for a bit for her, but it's died down. Maybe next year once our youngest is off to college she'll think about it again. She knows I love to invest time and $$ into my hobbies (you should see how much musical and recording gear we have here) but since it gets me out of the house and walking, and allows me to spend some quality time with our son, she has no problem with it. My hobbies are my only vice - I don't go out drinking with buddies, I don't smoke, I'm not a car fanatic or anything else like that so she's OK with me buying new clubs on occasion, or parts for my bikes, or new guitar pedals.

  49. Interesting article; gonna go through all the linked extras at the bottom. What's helped me with my short game are two stupid simple things I picked up at the last Monte Scheinblum clinic: more weight on the front foot (similar to the body lean in that article but different emphasis, i guess) firmer grip pressure (much firmer in my case) An fyi for #1 some people practice getting the feel by lifting the trail heel slightly.

  50. Bag Boy does make a quality bag. If you go back at some older testing from 2020, there was a forum member review on the Bag Boy Chiller Cart Bag. I also did a review on the same bag roughly in the same time frame. I copied the link in below. Just click the arrow in the upper right corner. I still have the bag, but I have it out of play currently. The only negative part is the size. It is big and since I travel for work and golf on planes frequently it is a tight squeeze in a Club Glove Pro. Other than that, I love the bag.
