Swing speed vs ball speed

Is there a formula or a correlation between swing speed and ball speed. I was at a indoor practice range and the data showed ball speed and slope (angle).

 

More curious than anything else.

There is a relationship between ball speed and swing speed.   Optimum ball speed is 1.5x swing speed;  it you achieve this you are getting maximum results and energy transfer from your swing.   You can use that to estimate your swing speed based on ball speed.

In reality most amateurs don't touch 1.5 efficiency with their drivers. So if you aren't making a good contact then your calculated swing speed will read much lower than it actually is.

Yup which is why you can never be too careful when looking at yardages on certain golf store hitting bays because the front end software requires the store to enter a static smash factor and in reality smash factor not only varies from player to player, but from club to club and swing to swing

And ball quality/type matters as well. With a ProV1x on my monitor I am consistently in the 1.49 range. With range balls at my local range I am in the 1.42 range at best.

Interesting - my instructor calls range balls 90 percenters because they only go 90% of the distance you're use to.

That is about right. I never dial in distance with a range ball and I always get fit for clubs with the ball that I play.

If I hit 1.4 or above I'm generally happy. Don't know that I ever hit 1.5.
