I230 vs p770

Anyone hit both? Thoughts on perimeter weighting for toe strikes? Been wanting to try a ping iron for a couple years because of the bounce and sole width as I have a steep attack angle.

Both are great!

I'm a bit more of a ping guy so would lean i230 but there really isn't anything bad about the p770 either.

Not sure if there is much in terms of stock shafts difference, but also could be the p770 will be replaced soon ish which could make the original cheaper.

Thanks for the info! I actually currently game the 770’s. I like them, I don’t love them. But I’m not ready to go to something much bigger yet. Id looking into a set of i230’s to test with for the next few months. I know they are a little longer in the blade length, but nothing offensive to me at least. Just was curious about any noticeable forgiveness differences particularly on toe strikes. Also considering a combo zx5/zx7 set as I think the v sole could help get through the turf as well.

I too have the 770's in the bag and also notice incredible (like 20%) distance drop offs with strikes out on the toe.  The feedback from thin shots isn't painful, but they're noticeably felt. The sound and feel of catching it flush is enough for me to keep from looking at anything else as of now. Simple fix is to just find the center of the face!

Agreed.  Similar drops on toe strikes.  Middle is always pure for sure, although I can't recall an iron that wasn't that way.  I know playing an iron in this category isn't going to let you get away with murder, doesn't help that I am a tinkerer.

I have had i230s for a month now and have noticed incredible forgiveness off the toe. I have not hit 770s and I was replacing i3s. The first couple times I hit the i230s off the toe I had a pretty negative reaction expecting it to leak right and end up short. To my surprise the ball stayed a little right but still hit the right side of the green. The distance stayed pretty true. Overall the distance on the i230s stay +\- 5yards no matter the hit. I suppose the only time they really take off is if you pull hook it. Forgiveness isn’t going to help those shots. But now I look forward to seeing what toe strikes do when I hit them because they hold the line and distance stays true.
