Annnnnd I crashed back to Earth, lol.  After two rounds in the 70s, back-to-back weeks, this week was a classic case of the driver getting me into trouble.  I just couldn't seem to keep it in play the way the last two weeks have worked, so it was a lot of scrambling that eventually caught up to me on the back 9.  Shot a 42 front TEN putts (including a putt from the fringe) - putter was fire today, especially through the first 15 holes (19 putts through 15 holes - it was crazy)), but fell apart on the back with a 48.  

That being said, got to play with a great friend of mine, and the whole round was light and happy and the kind of fun that I think golf SHOULD be, even if you're not playing up to your potential.  Managed to walk the entire 18, despite it being balls-hot, and had some INSANE cramping in my left leg (both the calf and the muscle on the front - shin muscle? lol whatever it's called - at the SAME time) walking down the 18th, but it subsided quickly and only led to a double

Anyway, back at it next week, and eager to get the tee-box figured out before the round.

Round 1 of 3 this week.  Early morning to beat the crowds and heat.  200$ for the month unlimited play( plan to get at least 10 rounds in here this month.  Front 9 was ok, but filled with poor decision making.  Back 9 much better, hole of the day 15, most difficult hole on the course. 3wood, 8 and pw to 10 feet and make the birdie putt, Net eagle.

Round 2 Saturday, early start didn’t help much with the heat.  By the 6th hole it was over 80 (@7:45a).  5 of 9 greens on the front, but the best metric today saves.  50% on 10 missed greens.  Hole of the day 11 shorter par 4, playing 285 to front edge drove it 292 18 feet for eagle, missed it but made the birdie.

Round 3, game play and management was good through 7 holes, lost my mind for the next 7 and got it back to normal to finish.  Some really good approaches but nothing spectacular.  Couldn’t get many approaches near enough for reasonable birdie looks 8 bogeys 1 birdie and 9 pars….

The greens were much slower than normal, and today, I had my worst putting day in 6 weeks. I left 6 putts a couple of inches short dead center of the cup. And I had my third three putt since August. That being said, I still just had 32 putts, which is not really a lot of putts unless you have not had more than 27 putts in a month. 

The great news is today was the best ball striking day in years. Sure I had 3 or 4 horrible shots but as a whole 3/4 of the fairways and 1/2 the greens and very solid contact. 

I struggle with over-the-top and today I had the “feel” that I was swinging above my right ear and staying under the shaft. Obviously, I was not really doing this, but that was my feel for today. 8 am tomorrow I get to try again. 

Of course, the real reason I’ve had so few putts last month was because I haven’t been hitting the greens. A great wedge game makes putting stats better.  Today I hit more greens, but didn’t sink 30-40 putts.

This round was one of my favorite rounds I have ever played! Not only was the score very solid, but every area of my game seemed to be on level ground. I wasn't driving the ball much better than I putt or chipping much better than my irons, it just all seemed solid. NOW, I did have a triple bogey where everything went south, but I followed it with a birdie.

13 pars on the card is a record for me: 1 birdie, 1 triple, 3 doubles

Week 27 VCT Final Recap

 

With the weather starting to turn to Fall for large swaths of the membership, there were 36 scores submitted to the VCT this week! The smaller tally this week truly reflected Quality over Quantity with the efforts of the weekly winners! 

 

Low Gross & Net Score

Congrats to @Javs on a fantastic round of -9 63! Which was good for the Weekly Low Gross and -10 Under 62 which secured the weekly Low Net. 

 

Most Net Birdies or Better

The weekly Net Birdie champ was @RoverRick with 9! Solid work!

Longest Drive

 With an awe-inspiring 375 yard blast, @CB Lobo 4 Life takes home the long drive badge for another week!

Lastly, a special mention goes to the Sharky Mac'n Swans for their victory in the MyGolfSpy Match Play Championship Final!
