I played a really good round for it being cold and windy here in Snowflake yesterday. I had a lot of good and some bad so I can't complain about shooting a 76. I did have to play the "West 9" out here again as they were having a New Year Men's Club tourney.

Some notables to mention:

  •  I sold all the mallet putters that I owned and invested in the Spider Tour standard model after testing it a lot at PGA Super Store and 2nd Swing Golf in Scottsdale. There were some growing pains that crept up in the round (3 putts on hole 2 🙈). However, once I got the feel for the putter and the speed of the greens I got a real groove going on the back nine. The best putt had to be hole one on the back nine where I missed the GIR and had to get a good up and down. did not putt enough spin on my chip shot and rolled out to 18 feet. Made the left to right breaking putt and could not feel better. Immediately came back with a 10-footer on the next hole for birdie! Needless to say, I am feeling super confident in this putter, and the more I practice, hopefully, the better it will get!
  • Hole eight on the front nine was interesting. Hit a not-so-great toe hook deep down the left side and it hit the wall short of the green and bounced back into the fairway. As lucky as that was I am happy to say that my approach shot from 45 yards was perfect. Short-sided green I had to open my 60-degree and try and hit it with a little spin to not let it go too far past the hole. I did just that and left myself with 6 feet for birdie!
  • Last thing to note which is a not-so-great one is regarding my driver. Even though I smashed it on the second hole I played after that it was a demon to try and control. I feel like my fairways I play well but my driver seems to be what I need to work on right now. May need to throw an asterisk on that 368 drive as it was downwind and downhill haha.

I had a great round and it felt so good to get out and play. Need to get my score better to try and compete with the rest of you!

I hated today's round. Lol - beautiful day, awesome to be out celebrating my buddy's @Billy The Kid Rogers birthday round... But there wasn't one thing that I did well today. 39 putts, two (MAYBE 3?) good drives, constantly trying to scramble for par and sometimes bogey.

Just... One of those days. Good news: in getting very good at hitting low (using 3-driving iron) recovery shots that run for days.

Pictures will follow in an edit.

I can't wait to get back out there and rinse this round out of my mouth 😉

I spent the earlier part of the week on a volunteer conference call and rated a South Florida golf course (Club at Weston Hills Players), so not a lot of playing.  Today was my first round of the week.  Overall, I had a good front and better back!

image.png.f335bb565824e7680f7d24da90e6a1d0.png

I only hit about two-thirds of the fairway, which is a little low for me.  But to be honest, two of the misses were literally by inches.  For some reason, in the last few weeks I've gained about 5-10 yards on my drives performance distance metric.  I'm My greens in regulation were about my normal percentage.  It was encouraging to see fewer shorts shots and more missing just left or right.

Lately, my chipping hasn't been up to par.  Today it was with six up and downs.  The 29 putts were OK, but something is just a little off as I'm burning a lot of edges and making the holes a little bigger for the next group!  I have a feeling that a some putting green practice time next week is in order.

Very windy and soft conditions. However, hit 13 fairways and 16 greens. Unfortunately the greens were bad and I had 36 putts. I had 5 three putts and lipped out another 6. The round that could have been. Come on spring and better conditions!

Great sunny day in southeast Michigan for a backyard SIM round. No right hand glove needed to keep out the chill.

MacGregor irons getting dialed in.  Now I just need to break 80 on a non-sim course.

My long drive was aided by a bounce off the cart path. Very realistic as i frequently find the cart path with my outdoor drives.

Simple answer is: the actual course slope and rating that go into a course handicap don’t realistically apply to SIM versions of the same course, add in that most SIM’s utilize an auto putt function and we, the staff, felt the fairest way to include these rounds would be to have them played without handicaps.
Next season, I’m working on some minor changes to the VCT and if we have the interest do a league for SIM on its own. Details to come

Weather was great and I had a much better day. Hit 10 fairways and 15 greens. Although I had 33 putts, I rolled the ball much better. Cowan is still recovering from all the cold and rain. Course was very wet and the greens were bumpy. Had a good 5 lip outs. At the end of the day, even par is always a good round.

You should try the NEW Odyssey AI#1 putters... lol just finished testing. I gained 1.71 strokes.20240130_091434_0001.jpg.a06bf2c672632b642fc9658995f7e126.jpg

No real coopetition from me this week on the leaderboard. I strained my leg getting a cart out of the mud Wednesday on the second hole. I went Friday but quit and hung around. Didn’t even go Saturday or Sunday. But looking forward to Wednesday.

The 17th hole was particularly cool. Never had an ace in a SIM or actual round before, so that’s something 😎

Ben, awesome round and an ace to boot. Well done.

Was windy. Very windy.

This was a tough round. At least it was warm out. Was able to get my long drive on a hole that I normally don't use driver on. Playing the longer tees convinced me to give it a wack even though the wind was behind me. Unfortunately, I duffed my pitch, then 3 putt for a bogey.

Short game killed me.

For my usual Sunday round, it got cold and wet. Regardless, it was a great round and despite cold swings making me club up on every shot, everything felt pretty solid.

On a side note, I found a ProV1x earlier this week and decided to play it this round. I went to Academy immediately after to buy a box. Chipping and putting never felt so good and my drives/irons were pretty on point. My main issue today was really just math (i.e. wind + cold + wet = get more club). Too bad I didn't figure that out while I was playing.

Been a real struggle for a while; not being able to get out, normalizing swing changes, injuries, etc.  This weekend showed both great potential and that the struggle is real.  Had some real stinkers, but plenty of good to keep it mostly in check.  Did better score wise than recently, but still nowhere near good.  Hoping to clean that up over the next couple of months before the season starts.   Got a few good holes in though, including a chip in birdie on par 3 #3 with two pips.  Net 0!  Plus hit the green on #9 (3 putt bogey 🤌), which I can almost never do.

@GolfSpy_BEN, can I petition to have the automatic posting close time be moved to later in the day on Monday?  I believe the 9am time is EST, and even then for those of us that play Sunday afternoons have a hard time getting a score posted that same evening.  I'm on the west coast, and I know we have one or two other players that play out of Hawai'i.  It's sometimes a struggle to get seated to make the post until after 10am PST.  Not sure how many others have run into it this crunch, but we used to have until later in the day Monday to submit last week's score.

It is currently set for 12 pm est, 9am pst. Mostly because there far fewer scores being posted during the off season and I like to get the updates out by Monday afternoon. I’ll extend it to 3pm est, 12pm pst.
