Michael.Sandoval33
Practice at the range was so bad today that I couldn't just leave it at that and was able to sneak in a tee time at Bixby Village. It usually takes me about an hour or so to finish here, today, 2 1/2. The guys in front of us could not figure out how to play fast golf. There were 3 of them and 3 of us (me, another gentleman and his 7 year old) and they slowed us down immensely. But, I did play really well. Can't recall a bad shot. Couple of putts I would take back but overall, a successful day. cksurfdude, Dweed, Rob Person and 4 others 7 Quote WITB Driver: Qi10 Max 10.5° Hybrid: FX Max 25°, Tsi2 21° 4i-9i: FX Max 10 Wedges: SM10 - 50° 12f, 54° 14f, 58° 14k Putter: M.Craft Type VI Ball: Pro Air Bag: Ghost Golf Maverick 14-Way Glove: Nexgen Nano-X Pro Tour+
ZackS
Got out yesterday and played the golf club of Dallas. Never played there before and it was the site of the PGA Dallas Open from 1958 to 1967 which was cool to play a course with that history. Not sure if it’s because I was already sore and then worked out in the morning as well but it was just one of those feast or famine days. A few examples of this is on 8 I toe snap hook my drive and then after punching out pitch in from 25 yards for birdie. On 11 I basically topped my 5 wood off the tee then from 108 yards I hit it to 18 inches for a tap in par. Then on 13 I rammed a 3 foot slider through the break I came back and drain a fifteen footer for my only birdie the next hole. Ended the day with a fat tee shot on the par 3 17 and a toe duck hook of the 18th that hit a tree and didn’t see it bounce out which means it probably went in the creek to the left but since I didn’t see it I did a lost ball and hit 3 off the tee so finish bogey, double bogey to finish with a 4 over 74. But I will take that since it, 6 fairway, 8 greens and 29 putts it feels like it should have been worse. Doug Emmons
8 hours ago, Indy_Oz said: Yesterday I played Prairie View GC (Carmel, IN, USA). Really fun course where you have to plot your way round and the driver might as well stay in the car! I used hybrid and long iron way more than pretty much any other course I play at and even then I was hitting through fairways and into rough. Course management killed what should have been a better score. Lost a couple of balls in heavy rough due to hitting through the fairway and being a fraction off line. But hitting past intended landing spots and having to chip out round trees or hack out of sloping rough cost me. Lessons learned. I felt I was hitting the ball well and putting ok (much faster greens than my regular muni). Really tough pin positions. They just have had a comp/ scramble this weekend or around now. Most pins were tucked at the edge of the greens and next to sloped areas. I was very close with a number of long putts and distance control was decent. It’s one of my favorite courses in the area. A little overpriced but group golfer coupons make it a great value course.lol Score: 84 (+12) Tees/ rating: white, 70.7/ 129 FIR: 7/14 GIR: 7/18 Putts: 36 (2x 1-putt, 2x3-putt) The course really gets interesting after hole 5, when you start hitting the woodland holes. the first few are open parkland and a good warm up… Play well if you’re heading out today… Love that course. I used to live just down the street from it (across the street from Plum Creek), and remember when it first opened. It was hard then, and I imagine that it’s even tougher now. Popular Post Nickygolf
Shot the exact same score as last week, 78. Whispering ridge in Brooklin Ontario. Great day over all. played with a friend who's round was his first in two years, so I was more concerned with helping him find lost balls than my own. Which was fine because I'm a pretty fast golfer. I wanted to keep pace and as it was, I found a ton of other decent balls. I mashed this drive in the image attached, wind at my back but outdrove the fairway which was new. Lots of great shots, happy overall, but my putter let me down today. Shapotomous
I played the Links at Perry Cabin today. A Pete Dye course that has a #17 much like Sawgrass. 125 yards to an island green with a smalltrap middle front. And similar to Augusta 16 green is positioned so you have to go around the pond to get to #17 tee. My tee shot...BIrdie! It was a beautiful day with a decent breeze blowing helping to protect the course from any low scores! This was a practice round for our alternate shot tourney on wed. I played the course pretty well for my first time there. Figuring out yardages and Ole Pete's diabolical green complexes wasnt easy. alii1959
Aha! Today, played in high humidity and the heat....again. However, things seem to be coming back together. 12 Fairways and 11 GIR. Unfortunately, I had two three putts. Otherwise pretty good day...75! Finally, beginning to feel like I am getting some control again. Didn't make a whole lot of great shots. Mostly just getting onto the greens and attempting to make a putt. For the first time in a couple of weeks, or so, I felt like I had done my job and that there were some more shots that I had left out there. To me that is where you want to be, regardless of the goal you are trying to reach. If you do well and have shots that weren't as good as you could have done, but were within your grasp...you are probably about to make a breakthrough. EnderinAZ
Played a three man 6-6-6 tournament today. First six were a true alternate shot. That is if it took my drive on one then the second player duffed his shot( which he did ) the third player had to bring it home from about 100 out. Then it was my turn again and I had to make a 60 footer that rolled up and away from me along the side of a hill on the green. I left the ball 4 feet high on the hole and the second guy made the bogie putt. The third guy teed off on two and so forth. The second six was a 1 out of three best ball, and the third 6 was a straight forward scramble, As a team we scored a 68 on a par 73 course with 8 birdies. I dropped two of them. It was a good round, and good fun. We had a 4, a 5, and a19 handicapers and took home the lions share of the money. Popular Post JAYER38
Wife let me escape the family gathering Sunday so we snuck a round in after completing the Honey-Do list I had. She knew I had a round scheduled for Monday morning also but that's just lets her sleep in with the baby haha. Hope everyone was able to have a Great Labor Day weekend as mine was! Sunday at Cypress Creek Golfers Club was a lights out Front 9 with very few mistakes just chipping a little long and a few miss hits but probably the best I can do right now. Hole 10 was no different and then Hole 11 the Driver became enemy #1 haha. It began to spray and that usually throws my game way off as it does get into my head specially when the Back 9 is tougher/tighter on this course. I believe this began to happen as we did rush some with a pending weather threat coming in quick but that's not a good enough excuse haha. Score: 96 (43/52) Putts: 37 (17/20) GIR: 6 (4/2) Fairways: 6 (5/1) Monday was a scheduled round with the boys! Try to play with these guys once every couple weeks as our work schedules don't line up so has to be a weekend or holiday type things. We took an 1.15hr trip down to Moyock, NC to Eagle Creek Golf Club & Grill. Beautiful course tucked into a neighborhood and a bargain price at just $40 for 18 holes on a holiday at 10am. Course is fairly flat with ZERO bunkers just a good bit of water/aggressive slopes/wild grass. This round was completely opposite of the round on Sunday... Front 9 I just could not get off the Tee box to save my life! The rest of my game was good enough to stay close until hole 9 where it all came unglued. Back 9 was game on right at hole 10, as I just went in feeling so much better. Longest driver of the day for myself and the group followed by a shanked chip haha. Still cleaned up alot and was able to win the group match by 3 strokes. Thankfully I kept alot of the Triple's + off the card which really saved me honestly! hueyma
Played over the holiday weekend at Turtle Creek in Limerick, PA. As expected it was quite busy, but we kept an ok pace of play through the front 9. My driver was spot on, like I'd never seen a slice in my life (but trust me, I've seen oh so many). As we roll through to 10, we notice the guys in front of us have just pulled out of the 9.5 so we figure we've got a short wait but no biggie. As we pull up, we see that the group in front of them has barely made it off the tees and the group in front of that group is still on the green. Now we know we are headed for a 5 hour round and just like magic the beer cart comes around while we are waiting and one of my buddies buys a round. I make the mistake of choosing a 16oz 8% ABV beer and then choosing that same beer again and again on 13 and 15 when the beer cart circles by again. Needless to say, while I started the round well, I shot a 12 on hole 16 (some water and I became fast friends) and a 10 on 18 to pretty much ruin my scorecard for the day. But the weather was great and I got to play golf, so not too bad. Havocguns
Played on Sunday and it was a mixed bag for me. Warm-up on the range before and everything was going great. I was hitting beautiful shots and was feeling really good about the day. Get to the first tee box and hit a great drive. Finished hole #1 with a nice little par putt and was feeling confident. After the first hole, I had some holes were I was playing great and others were I felt very off. My biggest issue yesterday was poor chipping which cost me quite a few strokes. TheBirdieMasterLOL
I played yesterday at a nice course for the first time (Ojai Valley Inn). Got off to a nice start, at -2 through 6. I hit a really nifty low spinner chip shot on 8 (new SM10's are awesome). Then I messed up. 9 was a long par 5, with a lot of tough bunkers around the green. I had 260 in, and decided that it was smarter to lay-up with a 5-iron than to risk getting into a tough bunker with a 3-wood. On the lay-up shot, I opened the face and the ball curved way off right, hit a cart path, and bounced into the right wood-chips. I hit a provisional, couldn't find my first ball, and ended up with a double bogey 7. I regrouped and managed to birdie 11, the toughest hole on the course. I got to the 16th tee on track to shoot a 71. One of the people I was playing with said that "This is a great par 3, but that right cart path cuts in a little close". I hit a 5-iron, opened the face too much, the ball curved right, hit the cart path, and bounced over a fence O.B. I teed up again, this ball plugged into a bunker, and I managed a triple bogey 6 (I think it was my first triple this year). I then bogied 17, parred 18, and walked off the course with a 75. Terrible round considering how I started off playing well, but I guess that's golf. Big moose
I shot 45 this morning the only good news is our team won. I couldn't make a putt to save my you know what, I 3putted 3 times and 4 putted once. I finally made a 10 footer to save bogey on 17 and I reached the par 5 18th in two and had to make a down hill 15 foot snake for eagle and couldn't believe it went in. Syks7
I played strangely today. That's pretty much all I an say... It was just a weird day. I hit 13/14 fairways and had perhaps my best statistical day with driver ever. I also had the worst performance with my short irons ever. Only 4 GIR. If I had a short iron in hand to make a GIR it was a disaster -- 6 cold shanks. Yet my wedges were decent so I got up and down 5 times and left it in the jaws on three others. The putter was fire great. 31 putts, including, 25 ft for par, a pair of 12 Footers, and several 5-8 footers. Only bad one was a 75' putt that I left 10' short and bruised the edge on the par saver. Despite the shanks I still managed and 82. . Its a little frustrating because it feels like I left a PB on the table though. Inside 130 is my best approach play normally and today it was hot garbage. Oh well. Also, PSA, when it's forecasted to be 102 and ends up 108, leave the push cart at home. I drank a bottle of water every hole, walked in the shade, and rested a lot. It still wasn't enough. I made my last putt more focused on not passing out than making the putt. Shook hands then went and sat in the shade by the putting green to recover. I drank two liters of water and sat for 20 minutes before I felt like I could walk to the car. It wasn't heat stroke ,but it definitely was on the door step with heat exhaustion. I'm currently laying on the couch after drinking multiple Gatorades and waters. Barely back to feeling decent. Don't be me. MaxEntropy
And so ends a brutal season in league (at least officially). It all started pretty well - I shot 35, 38, 39, 40 all within the first two months of the season. Considering we should only expect to play at or below our handicap ~20% of the time, I was pleased with how things were going. Then June hit and all ability to get off the tee disappeared - I developed a two-way miss (mostly big flares, though a pull hook was never far away) and, generally speaking, I had no clue where the ball was going and all confidence in the club was gone - I was totally lost . Irons have always been somewhat hit or miss for me, but they came around and I started hitting them very well (when I wasn't playing a recovery shot from a poor drive). Short game wasn't super consistent - periodically terrible but, on average, workable. Putting stayed decent, although I think I missed more 3-4 footers this year than in a long time. All told, it just wasn't a good year. My handicap started as a 4 and has ballooned to a 7. Looking at the chart below, I was on a steady path of improvement and the wheels clearly fell off. Within the past couple weeks, driver started coming around again after a slight grip change and some work on ball placement, although it is still nowhere near where it was. Looking back, I did a much better job avoiding the big numbers last year than I did this year - I compounded mistakes way too often. I think a lot of it is mental now - I feel like I took chances I normally wouldn't to try to resurrect rounds rather than taking my medicine. Last night, my partner and I had the dubious honor of playing in a playoff to determine last place for the season. The team that finishes in last place gets to plan the next seasons' final outing. I played pretty well but want a mulligan on two holes - I was +5 on those two, +4 on the remaining 7. I lost my match by 1 stroke. In the end, what happened with me didn't matter much since my partner struggled, so if anyone has any great ideas for an outing format, let me know. We've got about a year to plan it. tmerk81, cksurfdude, William P and 3 others 6 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 7W: Epic Flash 19* TourAD (can't remember the exact model) 4H: Tour B JGR 23* Recoil 780ES 5-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 54*, 58*: TAIII Black Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Most Recent Test: Fit For Golf 2.
Jim Shaw
Hello spy's Yesterday's round was much better in many ways, still some fine tuning to do in some more. Right off the bat on the range I found the proper ball position for me and decided "fire at the pins" was going to be my swing thought for the day. At the end of the day it resulted in a nice 73 with a birdie on the last hole... Today will be ball position and continue to work face direction and takeaway in my swing, and finding more fairways off the tee. Have a great round today anyone that is playing... Green4Spinach
Rejoice with me. On the most important metric of all, I played a perfect game today. I started with two Srixon Q Star Tours in my pockets, and a couple of sleeves of backups. Just in case. And I completed my local 9 holes with the same two balls in my pocket. Balls lost: Zero. Of course, there seem to be other metrics in this game. For the record, there was one par, six bogeys and two doubles. 10 over is a pretty cool number for a handicap that has dipped to an all time best of 27. I would like to file a claim in the Department of Mitigating Circumstances: there was sand spread across all the greens for lawn repair. My usually poor putting was diabolical. For the first time in my life, Shot Scope recorded my round as having 3 positive metrics in Strokes Gained (I am comparing myself to a 20 handicap golfer, for the sake of aspiration): Tee Shots +4.64 / Approach +1.98 / Short Game +4.08. However, the putting metric was an embarrassing -11.16, giving me an overall Strokes Gained of -0.46. Still something I can be pleased with compared to my regular handicap. Really like the Q Star Tour, and am now headed towards the Tour Response, and @JAYER38's recommendation of the Vice Pro Air. For those of you wondering why I am referencing particular golf balls, this is a cross-posting from another thread which is capturing my search for a non-tour urethane ball.
