tony@CIC
Weird night in league last night. We started on a 145yd water hole (that I like and normally do well on) and my ball does a splasher. 2nd ball was too far from the pin to recover so I walked off with a triple. Not a good way to start. My partner had a splasher as well - but his second ball was close to the pin for a 4. Unfortunately the other team ended up with 2 pars. . The other weird hole was a 450 yd par 5, as I launched it out of the rough everyone is yelling what a great shot - -about 10 yds from the green - it ends up hitting the "return to cart path sign", bounces sideways about 20 yds. . Common people it was headed straight for the pin!!! Ended up walking off with a double!. I finished with a 46 and we lost the match 3-2. Frustrating. MomoMan83
Had my weekly 9-hole co-worker scramble last night. Off the tee wasn't too bad. Making good contact, first drive was a hook into the woods and lost, had a couple others that leaked off to the right a bit but were playable and a couple of others managed to hit the fairway. Between the tee box and green wasn't great. Making some solid contact but was hooking just about everything, and for some reason my wedge play was terrible, just could not get the ball in the air. It's almost like I forget everything I do in practice when I get out on the course. The bright spot was my putting. Made five putts, two of them for my groups only birdies, and one from what must have been at least 20 feet. Almost made a 6th putt but the ball stopped short by just a couple of inches. FrogginBullfish
Well, I played my first round of the year today. Went about as well as I could have expected, especially with how poor my range visit on Thursday went.I hit the ball much, much better today but my short game was just horrible. I could have shot at least 10 better if I'd had even a mediocre day around and on the greens. My feels for short game and putting distances just weren't there and with some real fast greens, putting was rather tricky at times. But not having practiced those things, I can't have expected much better. On the plus side, I absolutely love my new Adidas Tour 360 XT shoes and got to witness a hole in one from a beginner golfer playing her second ever round so that was cool. Was a great day all around anyways. I warmed up great, smoked a drive down the middle and promptly got stuck with 8 iron and hit it in a hazard. That became a recurring theme. I don’t have the foggiest idea why, either. I think it’s time for a lesson, ... A lesson is never a bad idea. I feel your pain. The last 2 weeks have been brutal. My back has been really stiff and I picked up some bad habits. Shooting in the mid to upper 70's and played 2 rounds without a single birdie, something that is very rare for me. Honestly if I did not have a stellar short game, those scores could have been in the 80's. Regardless of our level of play, struggling and not being able to hit shots you normally hit is very frustrating. ... I was able to get some stim on my back because my son gave me a TIM's unit and it loosened up quite a bit. It was then I realized just how tense I was on the course and went out refreshed and relaxed today after 3 days off. I hit a drive on #1 almost as long as my longest drive on that hole and I was using much less effort than I had been trying to play through the stiffness. I was 4 under through 10 holes and it started raining!?!? No rain predicted til after midnight but it started sprinkling and then kept increasing so after 10 minutes under a tree I got a raincheck. ... The moral of the story is no matter how good or bad you normally play, you are always going to go through some rough patches. Chip Beck shoots a 59 then can't make a cut and loses his status on the PGA Tour. Sometimes you can figure it out on your own and other times seeing a professional is a really good idea.
