Popular Post CarlH
Played a practice round today with a friend. We didn't bother to keep score and sometimes would drop another ball now and then. Our course is really wet right now and play is difficult to say the least. Overall, fairly pleased with my ball striking, driving, and putting... still a basket case with the short chips and pitches. Zero roll on the fairways leaves a lot of long irons, hybrids, or woods into play for the approach shots on many holes, which puts even more pressure on my fragile short game. Damn, I love this game!!!! Bang60
I've not played for over a week due to Cyclone Gabriel, I live bottom of the north island and only had to deal with lots of rain. cjeffs12
Had a really effortless 38(+3) this morning. I really focused on some exaggerated feels in my swing, and used flightscope mevo+ to do some driver testing before I played. It was really eye opening to see my angle of attack to down with the driver. I tried the Srixon zx5 LS in Ventus blue w/ velocore, and Mitsubishi av white, and I hit it okay. I was working on trying to get my aoa up, but it will be something that takes time. My numbers were good, but my callaway triple diamond was carrying 285+ on average about 10 yards more than the Srixon. On the course I drove it well, got my high draw back, and my feels with the irons paid off with amazing ball striking. I also put my odyssey two ball ten back in the bag, and I felt a lot better with it. 3 over with 2 three putts on dormant greens I’ll take for now. Played again this morning, and hit the ball better from tee to green than yesterday, but putting was absolutely atrocious. The greens were a new level of slow that I have not experienced before. If I had been able to putt, I think the round could have been decent for the conditions, but I don't know how bad it was. I typically don't write my scores down and just find out afterwards when I upload the Shotscope information, so that I don't think about it during the round. Unfortunately, my H4 ran out of battery on 16 and I did not bring the charger with me to Florida. Next weekend I'll upload the partial round and see what happened, but it was crazy windy. I mean, 130 yard 5-iron windy, and not a mishit 5-iron. It was flushed and just died in the wind. I haven't played a ProV1x in the wind enough to compare, but I used the Proto 348 from the test today and if that was improved performance in the wind, I am scared how the previous model would have handled the wind. Finally pulled the round into Shotscope. Exactly like I figured, felt like a played much better on the second day, but scored worse. Went from 42/43 for an 85 on the tight, short course hacking it up with mostly irons all round to a 45/45 for a 90 on the longer course. 20-30 mph winds and 35 putts will do that to your score I guess. Got my irons bent from 2 flat to 1 up yesterday, so hopefully I can make time to play a round this week to see if that helps with the right miss I have been trying to deal with. CarlH
Stunk it up today. The Edison wedges did NOT like the wet sand, at all! Lost far too many shots out of the sand. Even when the sand is our normal sand, I've never liked these wedges out of the bunkers....they don't fit my swing well, I guess. I do much better with more traditional wedges. I had been playing different wedges before today due to course conditions and just put them back in my back prior to this round ..... Anyway, after struggling big time out of 2 green side traps, I decided to use my A wedge out of further traps and "voila!"...just like the doctor ordered! Grounding these wedges until further notice! Popular Post GolfSpy TCB
I have been looking forward to this post since November 25th. Today, for the first time since that date, I put my clubs on my shoulder and walked to the first tee at my course, and actually hit a ball. My expectations were metered... If I didn't whiff once.. I was ready to deem my outing a raging success. Well, success. My first ball contact in almost 3 months... was a nice baby cut, peeling off the left water line and into the fairway. It wasn't a bomb by any stretch of the imagination, but it was off the center of the club face and it ended in the fairway. My approach yardage was 165. and I made the putt for birdie. I was tempted to pack up and go home right then and there. I will say that the greens are true, even though the winter dormant grass doesn't look great in the photo... they are in really good shape and smooth rolling. After a routine (by joyful) par on the next hole, my 3rd was a short par 4, with the tees playing even further up due to some winter tee box work being done. 320 yard hole, dog leg left around a corner tree. So now is the point that I need to send my overdue thanks to @Golfspy_CG2 for a) arranging the prizes for the Ryder Cup competition last year that awarded a Titleist Driver to the winner and a Titleist 3 Wood to the runner up. I was the fortunate recipient of the runner up prize. and b) for his diligence in following up with his contacts due to a delay in shipping my 3-wood. On February 3rd, I received the TSR2+ 13.5* 3-wood, and it has taken me until today to actually get a chance to take the headcover off, with full intent (as opposed to just admiring the beauty). As I said... 320 yards, tree blocking my way to the hole... so what a perfect opportunity to give the new TSR2+ it's maiden voyage. What followed was the sweetest tight little draw that was possibly the best 3 wood I have ever hit. If I had shot tracer on the shot, it would never have left the exact center line of the fairway, with the trajectory cresting just as it reached the tree, and then started its descent, and then bounding down the fairway. I found my ball, center cut fairway, 75 yards from the pin. 245 yard 3 wood. There are days that my driver can't yield me 245 off the tee. Wow. Sadly, the time off reared it's head in my finesse shots... caught my approach a little thin off a tight lie, and flew the green, ended with a bogey. The other highlight of the round came a few holes later... a long par 4, and a really really poor drive... left me 245 from the pin. So, after my previous 3 wood performance off the tee... it was a perfect opportunity to test my new 3 wood off the turf. Now, it should be noted that I love my Srixon fairways. And the 3 wood in that set (15*) is money for me... but 225 MAX with roll out off the ground. Maybe it was the lower loft by 1.5*, maybe it was the honeymoon period still in full effect... but I couldn't have caught it any more solidly.... the flight as just pretty. A subtle draw that landed just short of the green two bounces and a roll up onto the green, just left and a bit short of the pin. 2 putt from 30 feet for a par (that I'll call a 'save' based on the position off the tee). . It is official... I'm in love with the Titleist TSR2+. I ended my 9 with one birdie and 3 bogeys after a 3 month layoff.
