While @GolfSpy_BEN works his magic to close out the VCT season, I wanted to check one more time before we officially close the year end tournament to make sure everyone who did sign up (or thought they did) is recognized as "in"!

There's the list I have:

image.png.65708028726629f54048ec8d89f82b2e.png

We have 31 per my count.   Please take a minute to review the list.  It you want to play and you're on the list, great.  The only thing you need to worry about is getting in your week 1 score in.  If you're not on the list and either want to play or thought you opted in, just respond on this thread and I'll get you on to the spreadsheet and into this Stapleford system tournament.  If you are on the list by mistake or can no longer participate, just respond to this thread and I'll take you off.

We'll extend the playing opportunity to play open through close of the day today (Eastern Key West Time).  After that, we'll go with the great group of golfers we have!

I'll be interested in seeing how this scoring system goes.  Who knows, it may make its way to a standing VCT tournament in 2025.

Good luck all!

Ok today was a great day overall. We played the Blue/Green combo tees. I shot 67. Had 6 birdies and an eagle! Offset by 3 bogeys. I got greedy on the three holes I bogeyed. Hit 6 fairways, 13 greens and had 29 putts. Awesome day and the new PXG Irons continue to be the best irons I have played! Here is my card:

Great round.  FYI,   I think you have a typo with your course slope; it should be 118 not 128.

Here in Key West, we are under a tropical storm warning based on the outer bands of Hurricane Melvin.   We'll likely have 2-4 inches of rain, 1-3 ft. of surge and 45-55 with gusts to 65.

I was lucky to sneak in a round today.  Yesterday, we had a related disturbance go through dropping several inches of rain.  To the point, it was cart path only.  Here are some pictures of the standing water we were dealing with.

MiltonPreRoundRainfall.jpg.4ada1ff14a873a83b00ebc0778725771.jpg MiltonPreRoundRainfalll2.jpg.d8b31ad7689495528cd08aa1166ceea3.jpg

Couple that with aeration late last week and 20 mph winds gusting to 25 and one had to wonder if playing today was worth it!

image.png.662722c7812b0d1036391ba8b5e16b9e.png

Overall, it was a "normal" round.   Fairways hit was about 80% with two of the three misses within foot of the fairway edge.  The greens in regulation was only 6%, but I hit some very good approach shots that should have been an easy up and down for pars.  However, I was missing my chipping mark by 1-2 feet, hitting the false fronts on most greens and leaving myself with putts longer than they should have been.  Even with that, I still gained over 1 and almost 1.5 strokes on my short game and putting.

Speaking of putting, I had a two putt from 65 feet out on the par 5 third hole and made a 33 foot putt on seven.  The other side of that coin, I had three lip outs as well.

Finally, as the Tampa area and everyone else in the massive Hurricane Melvin's path, I can't help myself thinking about the movie Office Space.  The last scene of the movie was filled on Sunset Key in Key West with timid Melvin sitting on the beach drinking Margettas (no salt).  Along with all the water we got from the disturbance that went through yesterday, we had a precursor of what Hurricane Melvin might do.

MiltonComming.jpg.0f897c8fea5183b98609e37ee0fbe76b.jpg

For those who've seen the movie, you'll get it.

To all in Melvin's path, our prayers go out that you are safe!

Delete this one please.  I was playing the Solo Scramble format not the Stableford format for this round.  Got my submissions mixed up.

Also, I need to withdraw from the Stableford tournament as I was not able to get in my regular round this week and will not be able to as we had a family medical emergency.

Best of luck to all playing.

Great round! Question: how do you know how many points you pulled if you don’t know your VCT handicap? Or do you know it as honestly I don’t know mine.

@Javs @fozcycle It's going to get posted/shared by the organizers.

Calculated by lowest 3 of last 5 rounds posted to VTC stuff

Thank you and that’s what I thought. I wasn’t sure we would know what points we pulled until the organizers ran the numbers. No worries it all comes together in the end.

yep yep .... for what it's worth, this is the point system assigned .... you can probably have a pretty good idea of an estimated point total

Yes but only if I knew my up to date VCT handicap and how it is adjusted to the tees/course played.

That's the challenge playing a Stapleford tournament on different courses at different times with various tee boxes, ratings and slopes.

In tournaments like the Tahoe Reno Open/Barracuda Championship or the celebrity American Century Championship are played on the same day, under the same conditions with (at least with the pros) with comparable handicaps playing from the same tees.  We don't have that situation.   We have players with single digit to over 40 handicap indexes, so to level the playing field, we need to take into account the course handicaps for each player.

So, as a reminder.  When you post your scores, make sure you add a photo or other representation of your scorecard.  The post should have the rating and slope when you create the post, so that should tell me which tee box you played from.  I also need the scorecard so I can apply your course handicap to the appropriate holes.  As @GolfSpy_BEN indicated, he's working on updating the VCT handicap indexes of those who played this year (using the best three of the past five rounds).  He's already said they will be available in a few days.  That coupled with you course and tee box selection rating and slope will yield your course handicap.  Your net score for each hole will drive the number of Stapleford points scored for that hole.  The total for all 18 holes will yield each golfers' overall Stapleford score.   For those who have not posted your scorecard, please do.  Without it, I can't officially assign your points.

There are some very good rounds so far, so let's keep it up!

Titleist GT3 10 degree driver with a Mitsubishi MMT SpeedMesh 40 gram R2 shaft
Titleist GT2 four wood with a Mitsubishi MMT SpeedMesh 40 gram R2 shaft
Titleist GT2 seven wood with a Mitsubishi MMT SpeedMesh 40 gram R2 shaft
Ping G 26 degree hybrid, stock Alta 65 gram senior shaft
Ping G30 irons, 6-PW, gold dot with Fujikura EXS 60i R2-Flex shaft
Edison wedges:  50, 55 and 60 degree, KBS Tour Graphite A flex shafts
Putters:  L.A.B. Direct Force 2.1 putter, 34.5" long, 67 degrees lie

Did not intend any additional work for you. Thanks for explaining everything again. I was only wondering how some were quoting their points if they didn’t have their VCT handicap. However, I know you and Ben are all over it as usual! Thanks for herding the cats!!

As a gentle reminder to all, regardless of what is posted and said here in the thread, @Golf2Much is the official VCT scorer and his tabulations are the one’s that count 😁

That being said, I have the week 23 & 24 results tallied. I’m working on the end of season hdcp’s tonight and should have it all posted by tomorrow morning
