BIG STU
On 7/12/2022 at 3:12 PM, chisag said: ... The new Ping Chipper looks interesting. I would hope you could get it in a package deal with a ball retriever and iron head covers. Juuuuust kidding of course because I do think the Ping Chipper is interesting and I would love to play a round using one. Never had a use back in the Midwest but most shots in the desert are tight, grainy bermuda and calls for bump and runs, not pitches or lob shots so it is a shot I am still working on to match the rest of my short game. ... One of the issues I have with chippers advertising, especially in videos, is they show someone using their wedge/iron attempting to execute a long wristy chip without moving down the grip and hitting it fat and thin. Then with the chipper in their hands they stand closer to the ball and use a putter like stroke with much better results. I have yet to see one Ad where the player using the wedge/iron uses that same putter like stroke with their wedge/iron. Of course this has nothing to do with performance of a chipper or whether or not the shorter shaft and squarer head gives the player more confidence. One of my high index pards falls into that category and had no confidence using a wedge/iron but hits his chipper with a completely different stroke and most importantly, more confidence. One of my cronies we call Checkers has that same problem----- He got one of those Square Strikers or Green Thing as we call it. That completely changed his short game. He saves no joke about 5 shots a round. His brother Little Bear (RIP) was raising cain about it because Checkers started beating him. cnosil
Being a most wanted tester can be bad; lots of equipment to test and ponder. I spent a little more time with the Ping ChipR yesterday and I am now intrigued. People say just use X iron, but it seems like the weighting and upright lie angle just make this club better for chipping and finesse wedge shots than a normal iron. It simply isn’t as limited as I originally made a chipper out to be and it may ultimately be better for me than having a high lofted wedge in the bag. I’ll tie this to my Shot Scope review; with limited data, I am losing a lot of strokes in the <50 yard range so maybe shotscope is telling me I need this club. I’m guessing this will be a club that is turned over quite a bit so I may wait for some to show up on the used market MyWifesSwingCoach, chisag, ole gray and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

It is weird right now because I love how the other two wedges get through the turf and work so well on full shots, 3/4 shots, half shots, etc... but for chips and pitches around the green I'm not sure if I have technique yips or club yips, but I just don't feel comfortable over any shot around a green right now. russtopherb, cnosil, Rickp and 1 other 4 Quote In a Hoofer Lite bag TSR2, 10 degrees, A1 setting, Fujikara Speeder NX Blue 50-S Stealth, 15 degrees, VA Composites Nemesys 70-S E722, 19 degrees, Oban Devotion 80-S JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4-P, Nippon 950GH Stiff Flex CBX Zipcore 50* (bent to *49) and RTX Zipcore Tour Rack 54* (bent to *55), DG 115 Spinner, Tour Issue Staff Model TG 60*, Dynamic Gold 120 S300 SIK Golf Flo-C Tour B-XS (2022 Model)
