Popular Post BallsLeon
@TJ Hall there was this good thread where people were sharing their setups: Don't have a setup like this at my house, but I pay for a membership to a practice facility, which I went back to tonight. Primarily focused on swinging my 48° wedge (approach/gap? always get that mixed up) hitting 40 balls, and it went pretty well! Liking the averages I am seeing on Attack Angle, Face Angle, Low Pt. Dist, and my impact heatmap for the clubface. Also, with all it's bells and whistles you'd think Trackman would have more granular club options, my 48° is a 50° on Trackman. Additionally I hit driver and 3-wood a bit, but was nothing to write home about. Still hitting 3-wood further than driver. Finally, spent some time putting. Managed a new personal best of 9 putts for the 8-putt ladder I've been working on, and surprised myself a bit on some long putts. sp0rtsfan86
first swings of the year and as expected a lot of ground balls, lineouts that would send the second baseman to the hospital and foul balls. That being said, about halfway through I figured out my backswing was very narrow and needed to add width. Suddenly the ball was jumping off the club. Weather has been trash and will be through Sunday. Going to try to get on the range again Sunday/Monday. My putting is still a mess and need to start to figure that out. Last year I blamed a lot of it on the course because I couldn't read the greens. This year, I've changed courses but still was missing putts I should make. Last night was the fourth night of trying and I finally completed the challenge (after about 850 putts between the 4 nights). Key changes for me were to wrap my right thumb around (instead of pointing it down the grip) and adding a few degrees of forward press. Rob Person
So just after the Ranger Rob duties, I hit the range for 30 minutes with my driver, 4w, and 7w. Began my official journey down the baseball grip road. I hit roughly 100 balls. Neutral (middle) grip position: Driver- 185-195 yards (just short of the 200yd flag) most were med-low height fades, a few terrible slices 4w- 160-170yd avg. Off the deck. I was actually drawing them??? Never done that before!! but was consistent 90% of shots. Very low flight though! 7w- 140-150 yards, off the deck, very straight, but again low height. A couple of baby draws. I tried a weak grip for a few shots, but hands and wrists were too crossed up. Strong grip- (thumb on back) Driver- 210-220 yards (just over of the 200yd flag) most were med-high height some straight, some fades, again, a few terrible slices (ballooned up high) 4w- 175-180yd avg. Again Off the deck. I only drew a couple, but was consistently straight most of shots. low to med flight. 7w- 160yd avg.l! Also off the deck, very straight, but a bit higher medium height. A couple of slices, but mostly straight to fades. I didn't want to change anything else today, as I needed a good baseline to start down this path using a baseball grip. I also hit maybe 10 balls with Driver using the interlocking grip (5 Neutral and 5 strong) at the end. Distance dropped under 200, and definitely a hard fade/ mild slice was the result. So with this baseline, I will be moving to a strong position baseball grip, and start making other small changes as i go. (like foot position, ball position, swing tempo, swing height, etc) hopefully I can iron out some kinks that will allow me to be more consistent and gain some yardage too. cksurfdude, TJ Hall, Bang60 and 4 others 7 Quote WITB-Foremost 551's - 3w, 5w, 5-SW (circa 1998), Top Flite 460cc Driver, Adam's 7w, Warrior GW and 60⁰, Odyssey AI-One DB putter. Michael.Sandoval33
Went to the range spent about an hour and a half waiting for a mat to open up. No complaints, they only had 6 spots open and I was surprised they even had that today. The place was kind of flooded. So ball striking was really good with the 5i-7i. Hitting the mark with a lot less pulled shots today which has been a focus of mine. 8i & 9i were a struggle today and right on queue I pulled my back a bit with the 9i. Nothing major but definitely going rest it. No putting today, even that area was zoned off along with the chipping area. Overall, it wasn't the day I expected when I called and heard "Yeah come on in" over the phone. But, wasn't the worst day. Rob Person
On 2/19/2024 at 7:07 PM, Rob Person said: Was on the pracrice green at work before they opened. Theres something about fresh dewy ball tracks thats so peaceful. Practiced long putting with the Lombardi with 50 balls (20-60'). Practiced with the DB for 100 balls.(3'-20') Both rolled well and the DB is still reigning champ for a spot in the bag. (Lol. Like there was ever a doubt) after my shift, I hit the range to work through the bag. Been working on some new to me swing dynamics, recommended by the pga teaching coach at the course He analyzed and addressed my grip, swing, and stance in 3 practice swings !!! So I've switched from my neutral interlock grip, to a neutral baseball grip- this is to increase stability in my down swing , and keep my hands/wrists in line with the swing plane. Also he said I was pivoting my lower body too late, forcing my hands to be just behind the club head on contact. (forcing the face to be wide open causing my slice issues) I have issues with syncing my upper and lower body, so have to slow down my swing to re-learn how-to mesh them together. Lastly, my trail elbow was not tucked into my side enough in the down swing. By tucking it in tighter, it promotes the "pulling the hands down" through the swing. So the first 5 whacks with the driver was awkward. I felt out of sync even more! I was hooking, slicing, and burning the ground. Absolutely a mess! I decided to move into changing just one thing at a time before incorporating them together. So I started with the grip change and used my normal swing. Next 5 shots while not straight, felt better. Added the tighter trail elbow for next 5, and I saw 20 more feet of height, and 10- 15 yards longer. Also, by pulling the elbow in it forced my hips to pivot more, helping align my upper/lower body through the turn. I still have a fade/slice, but it was not as exaggerated like before. Man it was a much better contact, and the extra distance was amazing to see happen! I played around for another 20 shots or so with different things, like stepping back my trail foot a bit, closing the face at address, etc. In the end, I ended up aligning myself 6-8" left of my target (on the ground in front of me) to compensate for the ball flight path. I was happy with the results. The consistency was definitely a plus for me. Moving through the woods and irons, I had almost zero fade or slices, just straight shots down the range. (minus the few topped shots I had due to trying to swing faster) I also actually hit my 7i an avg of 150 yards 5 times!!! (we have not got along... ever!) and saw an increase in ball height in flight!!! (7w has been my 140y-145y goto club, but no real height from it) No chipping or short wedge practice, as I was tuckered out! Total practice was over 2 hours, and 150+ balls. Does anyone wear a glove on each hand during practice sessions??? My right hand is blistered between the fingers and on palm!!! Indy_Oz
Couple of hours on the sim this afternoon. An hour of ball testing for the Callaway white box test (comparing Chrome Tour X, TM TP5, ProV1x and Bridgestone BX-S), then played 9. After a warm-up, I went through the balls with driver, 7-iron and lob wedge. I hit the driver and 7-iron really well, but I have work to do with wedges! Just awful. Too many hosel rockets. Just didn't have a good swing path and too 'armsy'. Next sim session I'll try to work on getting back to hitting the wedge shots I'm used to. Swing changes late last year have resulted in a much better driver swing- leaps and bounds better on accuracy and launch. Long irons have improved too... but wedges have gone the wrong way. My biggest strength was short approach shots last year. Just need to not overthink it and get back to basics. Oh and maybe a lesson.lol. Onwards and upwards... I stuck a new, narrower, putter grip on my Sik double-wide to try out. I had a Superstroke pistol 2.0 and I lack a little feel. I toyed with a really narrow old-school Ping blackout grip, but I think that's a little too narrow. So now I have a JumboMax JMX Pistol Pro grip. Noticeably narrower than the SS, but after a few rolls in the garage I prefer the feel for the ball on the face. Will see how it works out on Sunday. Last round my direction and read was ok, but feel and distance control could have been a lot better. Trying different grips and holds before splashing the cash on a different putter and fitting. Rob Person
26 minutes ago, Michael.Sandoval33 said: Went to the range spent about an hour and a half waiting for a mat to open up. I'm the opposite. I can't hit 4-7i well at all! Hope you're back gets better! cksurfdude, Michael.Sandoval33 and sirchunksalot 3 Quote WITB-Foremost 551's - 3w, 5w, 5-SW (circa 1998), Top Flite 460cc Driver, Adam's 7w, Warrior GW and 60⁰, Odyssey AI-One DB putter. Yeah I hit the mat a little hard with the 9i, probably out of a bit of frustration with it. Nothing some R&R shouldn't handle. Can't wait to hear about how the baseball grip goes for you. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude and Rob Person 3 Quote WITB Driver: Qi10 Max Hybrid: FX Max 5h 5i-9i: FX Max 10 Wedges: 48°, 52°, 56° Putter: HB Soft 14 Ball:

Don’t be afraid to switch back to interlocking. Interlocking will remain on the 9-wedges as I have more spin control that way on shorter shots. Baseball grip is to gain distance and shot trajectory accuracy. I'm excited to see how this "plays" out TJ Hall, sirchunksalot, Owengeorge13 and 1 other 4 Quote WITB-Foremost 551's - 3w, 5w, 5-SW (circa 1998), Top Flite 460cc Driver, Adam's 7w, Warrior GW and 60⁰, Odyssey AI-One DB putter.
