He will definitely be paying on this for a while. After having to gone to court when my 16 yo daughter was in an accident, the judge will give a strong lecture. You may want to be prepared to answer the “what did you do to him” question. We got 6 month probation, but I think yours is slightly worse. I would anticipate big fine, lost license, and maybe community service. Good luck with this , fortunately there wasn’t an accident where someone got hurt. Going to be a life lesson. Short term inconveniences that hopefully turns into a life lesson. I think you have to evaluate how important of an issue are you facing and what kind of outcome you are trying to achieve. I learned a lot about communication and how to approach those type of discussion by taking a crucial conversations class. Was a work class, but applies to any discussion where there is potential conflict. personalities of the involved play a huge part. We also had counselling and it helped a lot. Is everything perfect? No, but we are communicating, no more fighting and work at getting better every day. The pain of loved ones passing away will still be here for awhile, but now the difficulties of finances and logistics are just starting. My SIL lived alone; her husband passed away 2 years ago, and she had a lot of "stuff". No children, so all of that falls to my wife and her two remaining brothers. I may have him come visit the Unit for an eye opener. He’s taking defensive driving soon and will lose his license for probably 6 months, which he deserves but is a long time and a stiff /fair penalty. He will go through the ringer for sure.
