Best of luck in your new endeavor - with the labor market as tight as it is companies should be doing everything they can to retain employees.

Thanks. In fairness they did try and retain me, I chose the second option.

It is all for the best. I was going to be doing a job that having my family on the east coast of the US was not feasible. I would be spending a fair amount of time out west so I politely declined.

Thanks and I will be fine. I have time to do what I want for a bit and taking advantage of it. My wife asked if I could play too much golf like there is such a thing.

Haven't ice fished since I was a kid and don't have any lakes on Long Island. My goal is to play a ton of golf over the next month before the weather changes. Also plan to be more than a weekend Dad and husband which has been tough over the last 7 years.

Well 7 plus years busting my ass for my company and building it to where it is now and today was effectively my last day there. Not really planned but knew there was a good chance I was going to be asked to move my family and uproot our lives...so I am taking door #2. No idea what my future will hold but for now I am at peace with my decision.

If only this happened in July so I could have played a heck of a lot more Golf than I did :)

Best of luck in whatever you chose to do.  You made the right decision.  Nothing worse than uprooting family.

Wow...this is shocking.  Just from reading your posts on here the past year, i know you have put a lot of hard work and hours into the job.   Glad you have a plan that is going to work for you and your family.   Best of luck and enjoy the free time while you can, I know I often look back on the time I had between jobs and think I didn't take enough of it to really shutdown and relax.

Thanks guys for the thoughts and encouragement. I have been smart financially over the years and with the offer that they put in front of me I am more than fine. I decided that I would stay until January 31 of next year in a part time basis (with full time pay) to aid in my transition out. From what I hear they are planning to use that time to try and get me to stay with the company, which has the same chance as zero.

The only advice that I can give to anyone confronted with leaving a job is rein professional and wait for the company to goof up. There was a misstep today on their behalf that cost them a lot of coin. Fortunately for me their GC was also aware of it as well.

Hear ya. Worked hard at my last job for nine years .. helped more than double the assets under mgmt, helped grow the investment / portfolio mgmt team from me to 4, helped manage all the internal IT and vendor relations, helped implement new software and new cloud services, helped take care of clients, etc etc and etc.

But did I get more from them as they kept asking more and more and more from me? So I politely gave them three months notice.

And now I work on my house and yard, my golf game and my relationship with my wife :-)

3 hour layover at SeaTac airport. Went to Anthony's Restaurant and got a porter to drink. Ordered fish & chips; sorry no hot food!! Construction at the airport set off earthquake sensors which shut off the gas for cooking. Guess I'll have another ale.

So I have been out of the office for two days and just got a call to see if I would consider coming back to consult for 90 days. Told them what it would cost and said I would work a max of 20 hours a week. Not a terrible deal for me if they go for it.

Can someone please tell me why these car manufacturers are making these newer vehicles with indicators (blinkers) in them.

My 2 kids and I were walking in a parking lot tonight, and this huge dodge truck just about took all of us out, had he not slammed on his brakes we would have been hit, and there is 1 simple thing the guy could have done to avoid it, USE HIS BLINKER. That's it. The BLINKER.

He was driving straight and we were waiting to cross we could have crossed the road going to our left, or going to our right, depending on which way he was going, he was going straight or so I thought, we started to walk to our right, then he decided to turn left, we were in the middle of the walkway, he never looked to his left, he never used his blinker, and made the turn while looking to his right, I could see his head in the window, so he could easily see us if he was looking. He hit the gas before he even looked to his left, hen he turned his head and his eyes got really big, he slammed on the brakes about 3 feet from my daughter, and 4 feet from my son, I was between them. God had his eye on us tonight, and we are thankful that no one got hit.

This all could have been avoided by just using his blinker to let us know he was turning.

Please, if you are not in the habit of using your blinkers, tomorrow is a good time to start. Be safe everyone.

Glad no one was hurt.  Blinkers, along with stop signs, seem to be merely suggestions these days.  My opinion is that it's an extension of the "me" mentality.  Courtesy and respect for others seems to be a thing of the past, I'm sorry to say.

Common sense ain't that common.

I see it all the time around Ohio Kor, a lot of people weaving in and out of traffic not using their indicator or they brake coming to a side street and turning without using it. Also, they just don't look when changing lanes. Do the driving schools here teach looking over your shoulder before you change lanes?

Immediately thought of this while reading your post. You're point is very good and I get so a scary situation yesterday, simply by someone being to lazy to use it.

I think when you hit the South Carolina line turn signal use is optional no matter where you are from

Thank god you and your kids are safe. I see (non blinker use ) all the time especially with cars weaving in and out at speeds well in excess of the speed limit.
