Cornhole Championship - Wow!

PlaidJacket

Recommended Posts

When you're finally tired and fed up with a boring frustrating sport like golf you might be ready to cash it in for Cornhole!!!

I was flipping through channels earlier and noticed ESPN was - get this... televising the National Cornhole Championship presented by Johnsonville Flame-Grilled Brats.

When I tuned in (yes.. I just had to see) it was in the middle of the Singles final championship match. What luck. You should have seen these two athletes going at it. I mean tossing bean bags. Not actually, well... never mind.

Anyway... the event had a gallery of spectators, multiple sponsorship banners, and veteran ESPN cornhole toss by toss announcers who knew how to describe each fling of the bag. You should have seen some of the "airmail" shots these guys were pulling off (which is a good thing when you're cornholing). Some of the contestants showed their considerable skill by contorting some serious body-english. There was even trash talk going on. These guys are very good controlling distances and trajectory on most flings of the bag. However, I did see a shank by one contestant. I couldn't believe it. Especially from a veteran cornholer. That just doesn't happen. Talk about exciting stuff. Some of these veteran conrholers even wore special jerseys. Some resembling NASCAR style shirts while others were donned in a classic wife-beater.

I doubt I could ever learn to toss a bag like these pros. I'd bet too that these guys weren't tossing OTR bags either. Not at their level.

I play Launcher HB irons, a top flite golf ball and I watched the cornhole doubles championship when it was on a couple of months ago. Who wants to hang out?

Yes. The bags that they use have a “slick” side and a “sticky” side depending on what they want the bag to do.

I'd put my 80 year old aunt up against any of the them, she's been tossing bean bags for 30 something years. She'd tear them all up.

I've never played corn hole, but did pause on ESPN to watch a bit of it the other night. Pretty amazing the way they can consistently dunk it in the hole by sliding or air mailing it.

My wife and I stumbled on this a few months ago and have now begun to add the commentary to our backyard games. We are grateful to finally know the technical terms for what we are doing while playing this high skill game.

You should see the 70-80 year olds in Florida “kick butt” @ tossing them bags. Seriously it's popular here and some of these old folks are really good.

Saw a couple minute clip a while ago. Pretty incredible the consistency some of them had. But can they throw with a beer in their other hand and not lose a drop? I can
