Callaway Driver fails R&A COR test before The Open

Recommended Posts

Xander Schauffele became the first player to have his driver fail a COR (coefficient of restitution) test since the R&A began testing individual player’s drivers at last year’s Open Championship.

Following a second-round 65 that left him tied for 18th place, Schauffele said that his Callaway driver was tested on Tuesday and that he spent the next two days scrambling to find a replacement.

There have been multiple reports that this is pretty common with the Tour heads, but the Big Name players never have theirs checked. DJ, Brooks, Woods, Mickelson, Garcia, etc never get “called” for testing. I wish they tested them all in the tunnel on the way to the first tee.

First their balls are crap, now their driver heads are illegal. QC at Callaway seems to be systemic!

Hot driver with off center core isn’t a good combo 😃

Tiger's M5 driver was one of the 30 tested this week. It passed.

Yeah, I was wondering if this is an issue with the "Tour Only" heads .. which obviously receive the "custom treatment" (g. shaving the face) vs mass production retail heads...

But it's interesting the R&A only inspected a part of the field, not everybody - hopefully it was a random or lottery type selection process.

It was 30 players across several brands.

I agree with Xander and that testing 30 out of 130 is silly. Invariably, there are some in the 100 not tested playing illegal heads.

Xander should be upset with Callaway and not the r&a. TaylorMade injecting their drivers worked out for them

most pros have no idea what their cor is and it’s all on the company

Per Tony, there was another brand that failed as well
