GPS vs Rangefinders

I have a Bushnell Rangefinder with slope rating.  I also have a Garmin Fenix GPS watch.  For ease of use I prefer

the Garmin.  Gives me front, middle and back.  Can also provide me with pin yardage.  I like being able to just 

glance at my wrist for yardage.  I play the same course predominatly so I know the slopes so not an issue.

When I play other courses, I utilize both my Garmin and Bushnell for lack of familiarity.  Both are excellent

products.  However, the Garmin is a multi use product which suits my overall lifestyle.

I have the exact same set up but I utilize it a bit differently. I use the rangefinder for approach yardages and the gps to figure out layups and hazard distances. Sometimes I use the front and back distances. 
 

I use the gps because my watch happens to have the feature, I don’t think I’d buy a stand alone unit.

Not a fan of GPS, due to accuracy concerns.  I could live with ±2 yds, or 3 yds, but the problem with GPS is that it's only as good as the person who's mapped the course.  Or even the person who's uploaded the map data.  

I've had significantly poor readings too often to trust GPS anymore.  My home course is well mapped, but others I've played, I've had some seriously whiskey-tango-foxtrot distances come up on GPS.  Some are easy to see they're off, but others not so much.  It's not much fun hitting into the water fronting a green because GPS told you 124 when it was really 140+.  (yes, my depth perception is that bad)

So laser it is.

I have a terrific range finder (Leopold) that works great.  I am trying to become less dependent on the range finder and going back and pacing distances from sprinkler heads like I did years ago.  When pacing off yardage it seemed like my mind was more focused on the shot instead of going into auto-pilot or going brain dead like it seems now.  There's a disconnect between me and the shot at hand, or so it seems.  That said, range finders are terrific for shooting distances between me and a hazard I may want to clear or anything for that matter.  Since it is working I don't see the need for a GPS.  Also, my rangefinder doesn't project slope so it is legal in some tournament play.

This is kind of how I roll.  I have my Garmin Approach S20 on my wrist for yardages for most shots, and I'll occasionally pull out my @PrecisionProGolf laser when I want a precise number to a pin I am unsure of.  And because I play the same course all the time I rarely guess as yardages or slopes into greens.

I use the SkyCaddie SG 2.5 as it really suits my needs. I did use my brother's laser rangefinder and really liked the spot on distance to targets. I'd like to pick up one of the Nikon models.

Currently use both a rangefinder and GPS - laser rangefinder with slope and Garmin Approach S20 GPS Golf Watch.
