I would typically agree with Mr. Hogan’s assessment. However, the gap wedge shot that I holed-out from 103 yards for an eagle last Wednesday was skill. I even called the shot before hitting it, telling my playing partners that I was going to hit a lower-than-normal “driving“ shot that would skip once or twice and jump in the hole. That is EXACTLY what happened about 30 seconds later.

... Oh I completely agree Doug and well done! It is just the HIO where Hogans quote applies. I honestly hope I never have a hole in one.

I'd still love to have a hole in one, Sam. However, like you, I have hit the stick several times, including twice on short par-4 holes, but none of those balls ended up in the cup. I have also been inside 2' several times, with the closest being 4" (from 174 yards). You couldn't fit two golf balls between where my ball ended up and the edge of the cup on that one.

I’d like to have one as well, back in ‘04 I was playing in November here in Cheyenne. It was 36 degrees. Was playing the base course before they let her go. Anyway, hole either 13 or 14 was a par 3 160 yards. Hit my shot, hit the pin and just rolled a couple inches. We walked up there and the ball was on the edge of a fully iced over cup ! The course had watered the night before and the water froze to the top of the cup! The ball would have dropped in the hole had there been no ice ! My buddies counted it, I didn't. That’s as close as I’ve come to a hole in one.
