Popular Post BIG STU
Good morning. LOL a balmy 41* here. It is supposed to warm up though. Played the Spin off Small Money game yesterday. Now it was cold and very windy. I took extra warm up time and did not swing hard enough to hurt myself. The bounce wedge thing was not a success. Luckily after a few miscues with the bounce Vokey I was lucky I had the old 588 in the bag. Now I had also put a little Cobra 6 hybrid at 29* in the bag. I hit it well the 3 shots I used it. I think it and the 9 wood will stay in the bag for winter play. I managed to salvage the round for an 87 which is bad for me. Did not putt bad but nothing fell either. Main thing is I did not hurt myself. It was a tough day playing. My team captain for the day is one of the top green tee players in the league with a 9 handicap. Talk about a tough day he shot 85. Out of 6 teams we ended up with second place money. What was funny was we never made a birdie. The only birdie made by ANY team was made by one of our 90 year old members. He holed one out from off the green on #17. He was thrilled he told me it was the first birdie he had in over 3 years. Not planning on playing in the League today. Not sure what I will do today. Not sure if the league will play today. With the morning temp of 41 this AM a lot of the guys scratched off. It is forecasted for 38 for Friday morning and a bunch of the Friday players have scratched already. In fact only 3 of us are on the list for Friday. I am going to ride over later and pay my entry fee for the next week's Tournament. Will see what is up for Friday. Popular Post Byrnzee
Good morning Spies! It's officially the day I leave for Pinehurst. Flying out at 5pm, so just need to make it through a short workday and we're home free. Sadly will miss the Community Call as I'll be headed to the airport, but it's worth the tradeoff in this case! Feeling really confident about my swing headed into this trip. Last year when we did a buddies trip to Sand Valley, I was right in the midst of swing changes and was a mess. Still had fun regardless, but it's nice to know I might actually put together some good rounds this time. @William P congrats on the milestone! Your presence has undoubtedly been felt on the Forum. Popular Post BIG STU
20 hours ago, EnderinAZ said: My wife was call for some sort of jury duty every 18 months for years while we were living in Alaska. She ended up sitting on every jury she was called to. After the third one in a row she complained to the county clerk. Nothing happened. Finally, she took a copy of the latest jury summons and mailed it to our state representative and complained to him. About a week later she got a letter from the county clerk saying her summons was a mistake and to ignore it. She was never called to jury duty again in Alaska. Oh, and @BIG STU I think you are playing smart golf when you play from the tees where the game is fun. Us ROF (retired old farts) are never going to do anything with golf except play. Why pay to play and not have fun??? @EasyPutter You are hoping by the weekend the rain stops and I am hoping by the weekend we actually get some rain! @Coulter Never stop being a gym rat. I have a blown out shoulder and a bionic right knee and I can out walk every one of my contemporaries in the Wild Bunch and out drive all but one guy who is a former golf pro and carries a handicap index of 1. This, I believe, is because I stay fit, strong, and limber. No golf again today. Instead it is flu shot and covid shot day. Then a good long ride on the ebike. Hope everybody has a great day. It was funny when I lived in Cherokee County SC I got called for jury duty. That was hilarious. I was a volunteer firefighter and on County Emergency Preparedness and Haz Mat teams. I knew every law enforcement officer in the county and 2 judges. Of course when they did the in court survey that came out and I was quickly dismissed As far as me playing the forward tees it was a long road mental wise. When I retired I was 62 still playing from the mid tees at 6167 at sea level. Not practicing that much I was a solid 5. I got hurt in April of 2020. Could not attempt to play until around the fall of 2021. I had to completely rebuild my swing to compensate. I had moved up to the Gold Senior tees and figured out I could not compete there. I was frustrated and wanted to quit the game. Then my pro AJ (RIP) showed me the chart and told me because of injury I needed to be on the Green Super Senior tees. I had to realize I would never be the player I once was and learn to relish I was even able to play at all. My Mini Tour days were long behind me before I was hurt. I just play now and have fun and do the best I can. I told the wife the other day that my Old Man being a club pro and all had quit playing golf altogether at age 62 and he was not even hurt. He was just pissed he could not hit it as far or play as well as he used to. So there I am one up on him there maybe 3 up since it was the big question if I would play again period. @chisag helped me a lot in that area with open forum and PMs since he has a bad back himself. Now days I fluctuate between 10 and 13 handicap wise. Our system updates daily. Yeah I keep plugging on now grateful to be playing period and have learned to cope with it mentally. Popular Post BIG STU
17 hours ago, ILMgolfnut said: Belated good morning, Spies! Left Raleigh and drove an hour-ish south to play that Davis Love III course I mentioned yesterday. It was breezy and in the 50s and I had the course to myself, except for a couple who I let play through because I was in no hurry. I walked and used my push cart, but the hills wore me out and I stopped at the turn. But what a front nine it was! I had suspected it was one of those tree-lined housing development courses, and I was correct. Fairways none too broad. But I kept putting a little baby draw in play off the tee! Hit 5 of the 7 fairways and 4 GIRs including both the par 3s, with a 7 wood that I somehow got to check up on #7. Made three pars, would have made four except for a 3 jack on 7. Even with two 3-jacks and a double on 9 from fatigue, I shot 43 and actually lowered my handicap by a smidge. Enjoyed the layout, largely because I managed to avoid the sand, the water and the OB, but I sure knew they were there. The back nine is slightly longer and has a higher slope rating; I played the gray tees which are about 5800 on the card. Red tees at 5000 just looked too easy, and I probably would have blown it over a few more greens. I didn't even want to look at what DL3 was throwing at you from the tips (7215). The two par 3s I hit GIR (139 and 152 from the gray) were 205 and 215 from the back. Next time I'm getting a cart when I go there. And I'm going to keep playing the Maxfli Tour; ain't no way that 7-wood stops on the green with my old Srixon balls. I'll have to go by Dick's tomorrow and get another box. Speaking on Srixon balls I have found like a dozen in the last week or so. We used to get Srixon balls for prizes in the Shootouts. Needless to say I did not buy any balls for a couple of years. As much as I play I went through them finally. I do not know if someone has the Soft Feels on sale or what but I have found like a dozen of them in the last week. I have been playing the TM yellow distance balls which I can spin too. I did play the Shootout last Saturday on request of an old friend. I decided to play the Srixons. They really performed well. LOL I played 18 in the Shootout and 18 yesterday with the same ball. I had no problem getting my 7 wood to check. Sunday on my vintage round I had found 3 Precept Laddie balls in the bag. Those things really went off the persimmon driver and checked well even with my Persimmon 7 wood. Of course I have a cut type swing and generate a lot of spin. And yes It can cost me some distance with the driver. With me anymore I can play whatever ball and spin it Rob Person, Northern Monkey, William P and 10 others 12 1 Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- - 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R---- Irons 5 thru PW 1980 Macgregor VIP Hogan Apex steel shafts--- SW -- Cleveland 588 56* S-400 Sensicore --- LW Vokey 58* SM5 L grind--- Putter 1997 Scotty Cameron Santa Fe Fluted Bulls Eye shaft--- Bag TM Flex Lite Stand---- Yeah I know only 11 clubs G
Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Good morning Spies! Busy day. One patient this morning in Fayetteville NC which takes about three hours, drive 2 hours home, two meetings after I get back to the Casa. In between, get to unbox the Newton shafts, document that on the testing thread, then take them for gripping (also to be documented). Maybe afterward I can actually go hit some balls. GHIN confirmed what it told me last night: My nice 9-hole round yesterday nudged the index back under 20; I'm at 19.8. Imagine if I'd played 18 and shot 86 -- or hadn't 3-jacked twice. Time to get to work. If you can, hit 'em straight and putt 'em straighter! I missed on that second part yesterday. Popular Post tdc1
Random thoughts for a Thursday morning: Made it down to below 32° last night but sun is on the rise and low 60s by this afternoon when I can get out to play. The 65+ year-old Maple tree came down (safely) yesterday thereby depriving ants of a direct pathway to the roof and letting my wife sleep better when the wind is up. We'll put some kind of decorative bushes in its place come Spring. Remodel of the front exterior entrance should be done today, too. Still stewing a little bit about the 3 guys in the university golf class that cut in front of me yesterday on #16. I was playing alone and cruising the back nine when they jumped in for their 3-hole class "assignment." I can only assume they were absent from class on the day of the discussion about etiquette. Okay, enough "get-off-my-lawn" mode. I'm looking forward to a nice day today and hope y'all are, too. Be safe and be kind, everyone. Community call day and hoping I will be done with the tourney in time but the way they typically go, it will be a 5 or 6 hour round so the likelihood is not great. Coffee is brewing and I'm enjoying a quiet house trying to get some work items covered and taken care of, so I don't have much to worry about during the day today. Other than that, should be a fun day! Have a great day everyone! what is the tourney today? Popular Post slash25rc
Good morning everyone! Our little one started a new temporary daycare today, as her charter school was flooded and will be closed for several more months, and have gotten updates and photos throughout the morning of her having fun! As a 19 month only child, she has been with momma for 3 weeks now, but I can tell she has missed interactions with friends her age. My wife said she dropped her off and she went to sit down at the breakfast table and proceeded to try and give fist bumps to all the other kids so she's happy to be back in that environment. It has been bittersweet seeing her during lunch breaks the last two weeks but I am happy she's excited about going back. Looking forward to community call later and prepping for the Broncos to whoop up on the Saints tonight. Just gotta pretend they are down 21-0 at kickoff and they'll be fine. Finally got a manual firmware update sent to the FS Kit that was hindering me from using the app and changing settings to net use so if the weather warms up enough, I might hit some balls after work! Have a great day all! Popular Post Wheelieb
Morning All, After getting in at 1 in the morning yesterday morning, getting about 4 and a half hours of sleep, then working my Ruritan Club’s seafood festival….I'm a tad bit tired today. Looking at new grills since the one we have is busted and one of the burners doesn’t work anymore. Plus the grill grates will need to be replaced as well. That’s not to mention that it’s becoming unsturdy due to having to keep it outside at our last house. Had a cover for it until a bad windstorm came and then we didn’t have a cover for it anymore as it was damaged. We got it in 2021 and is now late 2024 so just over 3 years of use. Looking at some from Home Depot, but also not trying to break the bank. anyway, hope everyone has a great day. ejgaudette, slash25rc, ILMgolfnut and 10 others 13 Quote Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max 9* with Tensei AV Blue 55 Mizuno ST Max 3 wood PXG 7 wood with Mitsubishi Diamana Shafts Mizuno Pro 225 5-GW with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts Mizuno S23 54 and 58 degree wedges L.A.B. Popular Post Shrek74
Good morning, Spies and welcome to Fanter (or is it Finter)!! That's right, it's the time of year when Fall and Winter get together and hang out at the same time. It's been in the 30's overnight the last few days, yet the sun is shining bright and it'll be in the 60's and 70's the next week or so. It's a very annoying time of year, especially with morning tee times. Even at 10:30am, it's only 40-50 degrees yet by mid-round it'll be in the 60's or 70's, so the choice of attire is a bit odd. But I'll make due if it means we're still playing golf. Well, not much more to report. Just normal life in progress. Everyone have a fantastic Thursday!
