Oh yeah, they still sell chains as Les Schwab's. Those passes you used to drive over require you to take chains with you to cross them this time of year.

Every year, in Anchorage Alaska, they have over 300 crashes and fender benders on the first day they have snow. The first snow is usually more than 6 inches of heavy wet snow that makes the roads unbelievably slick. The little town of Soldotna where we lived (=~ 3000 people) there were somewhere near 70 wrecks on the first snow, and we drove on the white stuff for 8 to 9 months a year!

OMG Les Schwab. I bought chains from them. They used to run a Free Beef promotion in February I seem to recall. Buy your tires and get “Free Beef”. LOL

Oh, I decided which Scottish golf club to join and sent in my application last night, which seems to have already been accepted.

What course did you end up going with (if you don't mind me asking)?

We went to the PGA Superstore and I was able to resist a lot of temptation and just come out with a new hat.

Funnily enough that's the one thing I'm not allowed to buy when going to the PGA Superstore. My hat collection has become "problematic" according to my wife 😅

Happy Tuesday, gang. Another frigid day here at -2°. It’s supposed to warm up tomorrow to above freezing finally, never thought I’d look forward to a 35° day but here we are.

Our faucets stopped dripping all of a sudden last night around midnight, so I had assumed our pipes froze and I wasn’t looking forward to that headache this morning. I learned when I woke up that there were two water main breaks in town and they’re still working on them. Public works crews don’t get enough credit.

Anywho, I’m ready to move somewhere that skips winter.

Have a good day, everyone!

Come on down… I will say that with the influx of people moving here from the north, that there is somewhat of a concern  that the cold weather is searching them out. How else does one explain that we will be below freezing for most of today. 😉

Good morning all from the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. -12° real temp with a -30° windchill factor. Staying in sub zero temps in the morning through the week and weekend, then a high of 37 on Monday. Might wear a t shirt it’ll feel so warm 😂.

No problem! It was Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club, which has been the site of golf since 1793 (yes I got the order of the digits right, not 1973). Several reasons went into my decision:

1. I played the course in November and enjoyed it very much, even in atrocious weather. And the scenery is awesome (it's on a peninsula sticking out into the Moray Firth, thus water on three sides, and there are reportedly often dolphins cavorting in the water, although I didn't see any that day). Aerial shot below.

2. Of the courses I considered, it had the least expensive membership. Wasn't a huge difference in any of them ($65 per year from F&R to the most expensive) but every little bit helps.

3. The club secretary at F&R is extremely helpful and gets back to me very quickly. Not that other clubs were unhelpful, but he goes above and beyond.

4. The reciprocal privileges list at F&R is awesome, and stretches all the way to Australia! Seriously. If I ever go down under, I have a place to play in the Melbourne suburbs. More importantly, it includes seven very good to great courses in the Highlands (including Royal Dornoch) and two other excellent courses in the St. Andrews area should I choose to do another combination trip.

The Chinook winds were always the death knell for vehicles in our part of Alaska. The inevitable hard freeze following the Chinook would even shut down movement by the military for awhile.

Legs just don’t stay as warm as they used to anymore.

I feel ya. During the period when I wasn't playing golf, my obsession of choice became running; I completed 19 marathons and rolled up something like 13,000 miles in nine years. A lot of that running was in the winter, and I was usually running in shorts, including three marathons in subfreezing temperatures. People thought I was nuts, which kinda goes without saying, but as long as there wasn't a strong wind, I was OK and generated my own heat.

Very wet out this morning, did not start well at all. Ended better, going to putt around and let the sun come out then maybe back around for another 9 to see, if any, difference. Hope you guys are having a great Tuesday!

Ouch! Looking at that scorecard brings back some painful memories, like when I resumed golf after the long hiatus. Glad you pulled it together on 5 through 9. But no matter what your handicap, golf will always humble you.

Good morning spies!

Not much change, just another frigid day here although we are forecast to get up into mid 20's today and expecting major heat wave on Thursday into the lowers 50's!!

Not sure I can handle that much heat all at once but I'm definitely willing to give it a try!!    Will definitely be headed to the course if it is open for play.

Good day MGS fam!

I know I am late to the show for my timezone and you are waiting with bated breath to see my post. HA 🤣

In all seriousness, I hope you all have an amazing day today. Buy some golf stuff, putt around the house, make some swings in the simulator, or whatever you need to keep you going. Golf is more than just a hobby for us so we have to sneak it whenever we can to keep the engines greased and ready. Am I right? .....okay a bit over the top I know.

Dropping the mix....Cheers 🏌️‍♂️

Good "morning" Spies!

It was so cold this morning I totally forgot to make this post. 😞

It was 8* with 6" of snow on the ground from the last 2 days. Gonna be -2* overnight tonight. It'll be a balmy 29* tomorrow and some snow/rain mix on Thursday all day. Then down to lows of 4* and 0* for the weekend, so not a happy weather week ahead.

Had to cancel my trip to Atlanta due to the weather. Yes, Atlanta will be fine, but the 2 hours driving in TN won't be. So I'll work this weekend's upgrade from home. Time to start researching slightly used PHEV SUV's to replace my little FWD hatchback PHEV now that I'm not in AZ any more.

Stay safe and warm out there everyone!
