L.A.B Putters

Saw Erik Anders Lang (Random Golf Club) rave about his L.A.B putter on a WITB video. During a match play versus Grant Horvat, he was DRAINING putt after putt.

Anyone else try these? He mentioned they’re weighted differently than traditional putters so curious how that has helped other golfers.

I was part of the 2022 L.A.B. Putter MGS testing and really enjoy using the DF2.1 as my only putter.  It replaced my previous "would not trade it for anything" Pinemeadow Z-ON M1 putter as a result of the test.

Unfortunately my review doesn't appear in the reviews for the test.  My account was somehow corrupted and all posting history including created threads is missing before the middle of last summer.

The links are posted above and provide a broad range of perspectives on L.A.B. putters of all designs.

Welcome to the forum!

I saw EAL's video about getting his new DF 2.1 - great content.  As a tester last year ("Samsonite" was my handle then, not sure if the review posted has it under that or this newer handle), I can say that I've gone from never having below 35 putts a round (putting was always what I considered my weakest point in the game) to, last time out holing 27 - by far my best putting round ever.  To be fair, that's a combination of having a few really good, close chips, but the biggest part of my "turnaround" is the confidence I have with the LAB putter in-hand.  It's allowed me to stop worrying about IF I'm hitting my line, and allowed me to ONLY worry (grand scheme of things) on reading the green and getting the pace right.

I'm a huge fan, and despite the expense, I can't think of a better way to "buy" a thing that would make this marked an improvement over this short a period of time.

  Hope that helps 🙂

Based on the forum's reviews, I picked up a LAB Direct Force 2.1 at the end of last year.   I did the remote fitting with a video of my putting stroke, got their feedback on the appropriate lie and length specifications and picked one up.

The following two graphs are my strokes gained against my handicap peers for before and after I put the DF 2.1 in my bag:

BEFORE  DF 2.1                                                                          AFTER DF 2.1

The drop in tee shot performance was due to cracking my G400 SFT driver and trying various other drivers without the best success.   As you can see, I gained almost 1.6 strokes just by adding the DF 2.1 to my bag.

People see me putting with it laugh how it looks.  That's of course until they see me putt with it.  Then they can't wait to try it themselves.  Can't tell you how many times in the last three months people have borrowed it for a practice round.   Each time, in the back of my mind, I wonder if I'll ever get it back!

Needless to say I liked the putter so much, I picked up another on eBay as a back up.....just in case!  I love that putter!

I had my 1st official round with my DF2.1 yesterday.  The greens were not in great shape as they'd been aerated 2 weeks ago, but I managed 28 putts and no 3 putts.  I will take that every time!

But it's important to remember that different golfers have different tastes in gear, so what works for one may not work for another. Everyone has a different way of putting, so it takes time and effort to find the right putter for you. Before buying an L.A.B. putter, you should always try a few different ones to see how they feel and how well they work for your game.

The good thing with LAB now is that they are available in Golf Galaxy and other shops to try out.

I will say that there is a learning curve but once you figure out the simplicity of it, things change and they are impressive.

I never quite understood why Lab decided to make their stock lie angle 69* since that is flatter than pretty much any other OEM putters stock lie angle. Most start at 70* or 71*.

When people go into the store and putt with one side by side with another brand, the lie angle won't compare which could turn someone off since the putter wouldn't be correctly balanced if someone needed more upright.

My LAB is 67°

Fitting is a must for sure.  It was super easy to do the remote fitting and they got my results back quickly.

Being a lefty they didn't have any in the store so I took the chance.  I had been looking at them for several years and glad I made the purchase.

I agree fitting is a must and argue that fitting is a must for ALL putters. From a business decision perspective though, I would have thought a "stock" putter would be better aligned with the "stock" options from the rest of the industry in order to have a more consistent comparison in the store.

The 3 stock lies are 67, 69, 71.  I know I have seen all three at the GG near me.  Shoot they finally got a lefty in and my guy up there called me to let me know. I of course had already gotten mine 6 months earlier.  Haha.
