Bag Boy Nitron Cart - 2023 Forum Review

These are the west patterns I can see so far. 

Can’t say I’m that shocked and it will be interesting to see what that means for long term durability. I’m guessing it’s only a cosmetic thing and only visible when it’s closed which means it’s put away. If I can’t see it when it’s open then not sure if I care.

To be honest, I can’t say it’s a big thing but I agree, it’s disappointing considering how good it looks new. If it was metal rubbing I would worry more about the paint wearing off more and rust developing but with plastic it should just scratch lightly. Again, something to watch going forward.

Mine is through the paint in spots already. I'm sure I don't help things by not cleaning the cart very well after rounds. It probably only takes a bit of debris caught under the plastic to cause these kinds of marks.

Wonder if the Clicgear guys will see similar wear patterns as they open and close theirs. Assuming they fold open and closed in a similar fashion.

No marks on the Clicgear 4.0 through three rounds and multiple times opening/closing for testing and pictures.  I'll keep an eye on it for sure though now that multiple people have noticed that on the Nitrons.

But it is not practical to think that people will have a chance thoroughly clean it before folding it up and going home...so I don't think you can be blamed. It is a very minor thing to me, but given that this is a review I thought it worth raising for awareness.

The one thing I miss from walking generally is no sand/seed bottle with me to fill in my divots in the fairway. I feel a bit of guilt. I was looking at the accessories brochure that came with the cart, and am thinking about grabbing at least the bottle. 

@edingc should I consider any of the stuff you bought?

I will be getting the sand bottle for sure soon. I’ve seen another Nitron on the course with the seat attachment. It looked pretty slick but it didn’t seem all that practical after thinking about it. I’m rarely waiting long enough between shots to warrant the need to sit down. I have looked into the cooler attachment as well for those really hot days.

Funny you tagged me here, I was planning on doing a small review of the accessories sometime this week.

Long story short, the cart mitt is nice and will get continued use from me during the colder months. The cart storage basket is fine, I've been using it to hold the cart mitt now that it's warm. The storage/carrying bag is fine for storage - but unless you have time to burn after rounds (I don't - usually am headed straight to work in the morning), it's such a tight fit that it's hard for me to quickly get the cart in and out of the bag.

At least for my Samsung Galaxy S22, the cell phone holder and the easily adjustable handle work great on the range for grabbing swing video. Was toying around with it today and the results were solid. I just put the phone in backwards and then backed the cart into position on the range.

Some quick thoughts on the three Bag Boy-branded accessories I purchased for the cart.

The first, and so far most-used accessory is the Bag Boy Cart Storage Basket:

This one is pretty self-explanatory. The basket is a universal fit accessory that is attached to the cart handle and frame with some nylon straps with hook and loop fasteners. It unfortunately takes away from the clean lines of the cart, but I think this is a must have accessory for keeping things like a light jacket at arm's reach.

Currently, the most common resident of the cart basket is accessory No. 2, the Bag Boy Cart Mitt:

I don't know that the mitt would keep your hands warm on the chilliest of mornings, but it does a wonderful job of keeping the chill off my non-gloved hand on days when it is in the low 40s. The mitt is easily removed and stored in the storage bag. This accessory will get a lot of use in my early and late season rounds.

The final accessory I purchased was the Bag Boy Carry Bag:

I really, really wanted to love this carry/storage bag. Since I play a lot of morning rounds, I inevitably track a good amount of wet grass clippings into my trunk from the cart. I was hoping the bag would allow me to capture most of the clippings and keep them out of my trunk.

It was a good theory, but the bag is such a tight fit (though the Nitron does fit!), that it ultimately is too much fuss for me to be bothered with. This is the only accessory that I wish I hadn't purchased, but for offseason storage I guess I will use the bag.

The storage bag is high on my list even after your post. But to be fair, it’s mostly going to be used from Nov-Mar when I can’t get out and play. The garage gets pretty dusty for sure. The mitts are likely my #2 accessory but the sand bottle is in a tight race for they spot. I play much more often in the warmer months and I’m a pretty bad divot machine inside 125.

Went out to a local executive course (par 32) and tested out the Nitron with my stand bag and also gave it a really rugged stability test on some extreme downhills. 

The smaller bag fit with no problems. After tightening up the cords to get it secured I can definitely see how the straps can stretch out over time. However, the bag was secured extremely well as will be evidenced later in the what I'll call the triple black diamond downhill run, lol.

First downhill trial I was pretty nervous. I was sure it wouldn't make it to the bottom without tipping. The second hole is a downhill par 3 and is about 75 yards from the tee box to the bottom of the swale and about 30-40 feet drop in elevation. Not sure what kind of technical slope that is but it isn't a bunny hill if you know what I mean.

The second hill wasn't as steep but was longer in length. Aside from meandering off course, it still didn't tip over.

The last hill was the coup de grace. About 125 yards from tee box to bottom of the swale and at least 75 feet drop in elevation. I was shocked it made it all the way down with any problems but had to hold my breath when I noticed it was heading to a drainage port. That's where it finally tipped over but you can see in the picture it wasn't due to a lack of stability but a gaping hole that would take out a driving cart if you weren't paying attention.

So, in the end, I have to give the Nitron glowing marks when it comes to overall stability. Even after taking a hell of a hit in the drainage port, it came away unscathed. The bag was still firmly secure with the straps. I just had to pick up the loose ends (tees, balls, etc.) that fell out of the tray on the top of the handle. 

I should be able to get in a couple more test runs in the next two weeks before my final review gets posted but so far, I'm a big fan.

Got another good round on the nitron. Rolling some serious mileage on her.

noticing a little wear on the tires. They are a softer style than the hard plastic.

enjoying the simple storage the cert has. Much more functional for me

I was a little bummed that you guys are seeing what looks like some significant scratches on your Nitrons. My old BagBoy Express 240 has been opened well over 100 times and didn't have any wear like this. Also, for the Clicgear 4.0 review, I have opened and closed it maybe 50ish times (3 rounds of golf and the rest practice) and there's no significant wear. The only imperfection is a little black mark from when I'm required to put the wheel on the asphalt (and then step on the wheel) to open the cart. I briefly talked about it in the 3rd paragraph of my first on-course impressions post:

Got another handful of mileage on the cart.

i aM not seeing the same wear as the other testers on mine. Not sure if it’s paint or what that’s going on your guys, mines just the flat black no paint really

I think you and I are seeing similar rub/wear marks where the wheels fold in. Not much more than a blemish so we will see what the future holds as I get more use in this summer.

I just picked up the Bag Boy Nitron in the black camo color. Are any of you using an umbrella with your push carts for really hot days? Looking to see if anybody has suggestions for an umbrella that’ll fit the stock umbrella holder properly without me having to go through trial and error.

I haven’t tried that yet. But you could also take the holder with you when shopping for an umbrella to make sure the handle fits. This question reminds me that I still need to test out the umbrella factor to verify how stable it is with it in place.

I have not used the umbrella at all. Typically don’t play in the rain and when it’s sunny I’m trying to get all the rays I can.

I do have an umbrella from Home Depot that I’ll try out see if it fits well

It fits OK. I didn't realize the umbrella holder doesn't really secure the umbrella in at all and just sort of holds the handle. Last week I played in a windy drizzle and was left chasing my umbrella on one hole. 

I've used the umbrella mount 3-4 times now and enjoy the option. For me I have to hold the umbrella in my hand as I walk because it is too short to comfortable stand under.

It does an adequate job keeping my clubs dry and covers most of the top of my bag with only my putter getting slightly wet.

For the height issue with the umbrella, are you a fairly tall person?

 

This is my first time with a walking cart and I was looking to find a way to keep away from the scorching sun on the hot days.

That particular umbrella handle fits fit in the cart attachment, but as I mentioned, it's a friction/force fit. Before receiving the cart I had a clamp or something similar in my mind as the way the umbrella attached to the cart.

I'm just shy of six feet tall. I could walk underneath if I was hunched over, but honestly it's just easier to hold the umbrella in one hand while pushing the cart in the other.

I ended up getting caught in another rain shower right near the end of my round this morning. It was very easy to quickly mount the umbrella holder (I keep it in the storage pouch under the handle when not in use), and I had my umbrella up and ready within about 30 seconds.

Hello all!  Just found this forum and wow!  You all are amazing with the user reviews.  I am getting back into playing after a long hiatus and looking for a push cart.  Living in NYC the space issues are big.  (Either in my trunk or in the apartment)  I have narrowed things down to the Nitron and the Clicgear 4.  I think the Clicgear is a little smaller folded up and wondering if anyone has real-world experience comparing the two when they are folded?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
