Same here! My Sub70 wedges are loosing their text paint and I've been interested in restoring/customizing it.

I plan on getting a second set of irons in the future.  I bought grips and ferrules already.  I plan on repainting a set and I did plan on reshafting on my own.  I may the shafting of the irons get professionally done.

Doing paintfill work on golf clubs is certainly an exacting and tedious process and requires great patience (and a very steady hand).

Going to say while paint pens work, I think for future I would prefer using actual paint fill vs paint pens. It was a bit more tedious of a process with the paint pens.

Depending on what clubs I ultimately get fit into and purchase, this is HIGH on my to do list.
I have red/white/blue ferrules and grips, so that'll be my theme for whatever I get.

Even for the extremely tight areas, like grooves?

I found the paint pens didn't fill up well enough so the colors didn't quite pop how I wanted them to. They still work, but I had to do a few layers. 

Also having paint thinner really helps to remove overfill and streaks.

I've used both before and agree. The Testors model paint works really well when you wanna ditch the pen. Sometimes with the pens, I'll dab up a bunch, sort of into a pool, and then work it around.

I own several paint pens in various colors, and I fully agree with you. Fine tipped detailing brushes such as those that are used by automotive pinstripers work better for me.

Good article.  My initial thought based on the title was how to paint the head as a whole and not just how to do paintfill.   Skills to be able to do paintfill is great as you can personalize clubs.

Great description! This is actually one of the easier things to do.
A couple things I might add – applying the paint with a toothpick works well and make sure you use acrylic paint (used on cars) instead of enamel. (Note – Testors is enamel paint and will wear off)
Good point about letting the paint cure before using the acetone to clean up. It’s impossible to get it perfect and if you don’t let the paint cure the acetone will just wipe off all of the paint you just applied and you have to start over.
great thing about it is if you don’t like it, use the acetone and q tips to wipe out what you did and do it again!

also - good lighting is key!

I like this a lot, I think for me, I'd just leave it with the paint removed for the more subdued look, but I think my daughter would appreciate a pop of pink. My mind went to the detail brushes used for model painting. Could be an easy way to fill the small areas.

I’ve thought about doing this often. I just regripped my “restored” Hogan Edge GS and used a bunch of different colored Pure grips, I might grab the acrylic pens and see if I can match the paint fills to the grips too!

picked this up from Amazon and have not been disappointed. the Tamiya paint seems to be one of the best acrylics.

I have been wondering if this is possible and now I have a reason to keep the old Daiwas! Bookmarking for later!

Did this using the G Paint last year on my blacked out T200's. 

They looked pretty great as it was, but needed something to "pop", so filled in with white the club head number. 

A year, and 80+ rounds later, they're still holding up quite well ! 

Going to do a refresh once I get the new shafts/grips/ferrules in.

Basically did exactly how it was laid out in the linked article at the top, super easy. 

Also if you wanted to put designs on your wedges, just need whatever metal punch letters/design of your choosing, a hammer, and a block of wood!
