Bad drives ended up 2 fairways over and ones that looked good from the tee box ended up in tricky lies with no hope in going for the green. Fairways, hybrids, and irons weren’t bad but my wedge game was atrocious. If I was within 100 yards of the hole it was a war to get in the green. Putting was hit or miss, I’d either nail a 20 footer or 3 putt. But it was better than not playing at all so there’s that. Sounds like a solid outing to be honest. From a year ago you would be 2 shots less per hole on avg, so that is nothing to scoff at. Popular Post Indy_Oz
Played Augusta today. Ok, so I pretended to play Augusta (or Georgia Golf Club) on a friend's garage sim. He thought it would be amusing to have the greens set to stimpmeter rating of 13. FFS.... I birdied the first two holes and then proceeded to get worse and rediscover the shanks with wedges.Dammit. Finished the round at something like +11/+12.lol. Putting was a joke. His is the only sim I've played on with putting used and it really does take some getting used to! Long putts especially. All good fun though. Positives: Driving and fairway woods were good overall. Long and mid irons very good. Wedges were a joke and incredibly frustrating. Definitely coming over the top. Gah... RichL85
The golf gods were not kind today. Walked off with an 87 and felt like I went a few rounds with a boxer. The course layout did not feel like it was particularly tough, but it seems the greenskeeper woke up in a bad mood because the pin placements were absolutely ridiculous on a few holes. The greens were crazy fast with large breaks, and nothing was a straight putt. I missed a couple 1 and 2 foot putts because I'm not used to playing 6 inches of break for an 18 inch putt. I struggled from the 80-100 yard range today. For some reason the full swing wedges just weren't hitting the distances I'm used to. The guys I were paired up with play the course often and they were saying the pin placements were just mean today. Side note, we didn't get on the course until 45 minutes past our tee time because they were backed up due to a lack of carts. All the while the staff is making jokes about the graveyard of carts that need to be repaired hanging out in the building. Even if Florida didn't have a ton of other courses to choose from, I can't say I'd go back to that one. The guys I was paired up with were awesome though. Prodigal Duffer
Got out yesterday afternoon, tried a course I haven’t played before. Man, that was a great track. Lots of hills, not too long, but required a lot of thought. I will have to post a review of the course (after playing it again and getting some pics). For the last month, I’ve been really struggling, particularly off the tee. Yesterday, I was pretty dang good off the tee, with over 4 strokes gained. I found myself frequently looking at a short wedge into the green, but unfortunately, my approach game was total trash, so I hit only a few GIRs. I am encouraged, though, that with some instruction and practice, I could easily have shot probably 10 strokes lower yesterday. Played with a good playing partner, and we were paired with a couple of fun guys. I am an introvert, but have found that golf is a really good way for me to meet new people where I actually enjoy it. sp0rtsfan86
Played the first round of 2024 and the results were a lot like 2023. First few holes were tentative with a good drive followed by bad approach: then a bad chip followed by a long putt. On 4 I drilled a 7 iron to 40 feet, hit the next putt to 25 feet and somehow drained the long one. From that point on wheels fell off, a 3 putt double, a 9 after dunking two balls in the water, a bogey after a water ball and then two OOBs. I think the most frustrating thing is my irons got better as my driver got worse. By the time I got off the course, I couldn't hit driver without a true high push fade/slice. For the first round, it was fine, just frustrating that the same misses were creeping into my game. berkeleybob, William P, MattF and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: Epic Flash 12 Degree Wood: GBB 3 Wood Hybrid: Razr 4 hybriid stiff stock shaft. First time this year (only my 4th round) that it felt like all the aspect of my game was coming together at the same time. Syks7
Could be a busy week coming up -- Tourney Thursday followed by a chance to play a bucket list course on Friday (if the rain doesn't screw things up). Figured I'd go out for a tuneup on the Van Nuys Par 3 since the Tourney course isn't one that I play particularly well and the other course is just plain hard. Not bad +3 front +4 back with a double. +7 total for a 61 on a par 54. Putter was back from the worst round I've had with it, short game still pretty good thought I did cost myself at least two strokes by being greedy (thinking I could hole a chip instead of setting up an easy putt) Irons, okay. I was a little stuck today but not so bad it was catastrophic. Just hung it out a bit right all day. If it was on a normal course with bigger greens I probably still would have been putting most of the time. Plus, I did 18 (3200 yards) in 1:45. Love to be able to play quickly. Helps me stay focused. I've been trying to figure out how to maintain that focus over a normal round that has a lot of waiting, conversation, and other things that break me out of my focus. It helps that I walk but I'm coming up empty. NubianRugby
Got in 9 holes after work yesterday and shot 49. Double bogie on the first two and last two holes and bogies on the other 5, kind of gross, but I avoided totally falling apart on any hole. Working the new swing and started a bit rough but after a few holes I got locked in with my longer (4,5,6) irons. Had many bad approaches with my short irons, I was hitting fat and short from 100 yards in, which left me with a lot of chips onto the green. Chipping was OK, I was coming through cleanly but ran a few past the hole. Putting wasn't good; I was unable to convert any of my 15-20 footers to save par and the couple times I was on in regulation I 3-putted. jbern
I took advantage of the warmer weather and was able to walk 9 yesterday evening. Usually I am pretty good tee-to-green and have a terrible short game. Yesterday was opposite day; my drives were fine, but my approach shots and fairway woods were atrocious. Then my short game stepped up and I had 4 chips/pitches that ended within 8' of the hole and one chip-in (too bad it was for double bogey)! I ended up scoring a +6, 42 on the day. I wasn't happy with the score, but I was very happy to be outside golfing! I also got to test my new Cobra LTDx driver. Overall, I would say that it went well. There were two low-heal miss-hits that spun off the planet high and right. Other than those two bad shots, the LTDx is definitely longer than my PXG Gen4 0811X. I was happy that I took it to a course that I play a lot. On the first hole there's a bunker complex that is on the right side of the fairway and it's 280 yards to clear. Brycwade
Played in a local two-man tournament on Sunday and we played well. Had two bad holes, back-to-back unfortunately. We were +3 through 14 then got to the 12th hole (started on 16) which is a short par 3 with water short and right and OB left. I hit a safety pull 15 yards left of the green but still in play, partner dropped one in the water. I hit what I, and everyone else in the group, thought was a great little bump and run to just low of the hole... well that thing just kept on rolling past the flag, off the green, and into the water. Partner didn't fare any better and we walked away with a 6. Not terrible, only 6 over with 3 holes left. Next hole was a longer par 5. Both my partner and I hit the fairway but were well back and both layed up. Partner hit a nice shot and was left with about 100 yards in. I proceed to shank a 5 iron just short of the road and never recovered from there. Partner flew the green with his next shot and had a very difficult up and down situation which he also did not recover from. Back-to-back triples and we are now 9 over, 6 over in the last two holes. We pared the next hole and bogeyed the last, which left us 10 over. Certainly not how we expected to finish after such a good start on a windy and cold day. All-in-all it was a great day and we still walked away with a little money for our efforts. I have hit the back lip of the bunker a handful of times and it's a nightmare to get out of! Popular Post VernL4
I played a round with my brother and a friend on February 26th. It was a beautiful 70 degrees! We got to drive brand new carts that were being unloaded as we arrived at the course. My drives were for the most part fairly straight, so that was good news. The bad news? The greens were terribly slow. Sadly, this resulted in multiple holes with 2 and 3 putts. I hit an inordinate number of bunkers as well. My hole of the day on a short par 4. My tee shot ended up on the right edge of the fairway. A short approach shot and two putts resulted in a par. I got enough sun that my watch gained a day of battery life, too. It was still better than being at work! Brycwade, MattF, Michael.Sandoval33 and 7 others 9 1 Quote M6 clubs in the bag and a GARMIN Fenix 7 on the wrist! Jodrell
Not the best, but could have been worse. Only the second 9 (on a par 3 course) since an ankle injury meant I’ve basically been unable to walk properly for 3 weeks. The golf is now part of my physio. A couple of poor long putts causing doubles, but the short game clearly wasn’t right either. Most annoyingly sticking a tee shot 4ft left and pin high, then missing the putt…golf cksurfdude, William P, BallsLeon and 6 others 9 Quote WitB (not sure how I ended up with a complete bag…it wasn’t deliberate Stealth 2 Driver (HZRDUS Smoke Red shaft) Stealth 2+ 5 Wood (with a 3-wood length HZRDUS Smoke Black shaft) P790 (4-5) P770 (6-PW) irons MG4 52º & 60º (C-Grind) Wedges MG3 Black 56º Wedge MySpider Tour putter in McLaren F1 Colours TP5 Pix balls
